    Loving the podcast! As a Spurs fan I would have loved to see Harry in this side but I don't see how we would have had this start with him. Part of our success has come from the fact that our side is much quicker back to front and despite H's immense quality, him and Son together in an attack alongside the mercurial Kulu is a very slow attack. Plus he would get in Maddison's way when he drops deep like he does for England which is why it's so hard for any of our 10s to really shine centrally.

    The short answer that nobody wants to seem to admit. Yes Spurs are currently a better team without Kane. The reason for that is Kane would not press with the speed and intensity that Ange wants from the current system. Kane has not pressed well since his last major ankle injury against Man City in the Champions League Quarter Final of 2019. His lack of pressing has been obvious and other players have often had to run past him to press while he jogs. Occasionally he will press but he seems to pick and choose. Possibly Ange would have played a different system to accommodate him but we will never know, he decided to leave.

    Listened to this on Spotify on my lunch break yesterday, I wanted to ask: "The situation with Spurs and Kane, I don't think any of us Spurs fans are saying we are better off without Kane. Instead the question is, given how well we are playing with Ange ball, how good would we be if we had Kane on the end of those chances or linking up with Maddison to send Son through on goal?" I did end up asking something like that but the character limit on the Q&A on Spotify meant I couldn't also add that this podcast gives me some much needed laughs with Micah's contagious laugh and the stories you all have. Love this trio.

    Tip for Micah: Spurs are a better team without Harry Kane, but not because of Harry Kane's absence. They've replaced other positions with better players and current players have improved - both can be independent from Harry Kane's presence.

    I think kane needed to leave in order to get this revolution in the midfield. If he comes back next year itll be fantastic, but if he'd stayed the team wouldn't have made this much progress imo, even with all the same new players

  • @C33Fernandez

    @C33Fernandez

    @@tokilladaemon Yeah, I tend towards a similar opinion, but we can't really know. Ange could have orchestrated a similar change with Kane present, if he has that intention and progress in mind. But Son in the new role is working wonders with the midfield behind him - He tends to drop off in form every now and then, but if he develops consistency, it could be a killer formation.

    Remember in Harry Kane last game for Spurs, under Postecoglou, he scored 4 goals in a 5-1 win. In the new year however they lose Bissouma, Sarr and Son to the African Nations Cup and the Asian Cup. In Spurs first 6 games Romero only gave away one foul and has still only been booked once.

  • @ecalalo

    I compare Kane's Spurs to Messi's Argentina in the 2010's. They had to do so much for the theam wich got them either out of position or making the offense pretty obvious. Someone got the ball and they instantly look up to see where Lio/Harry were so they could get them the ball. They're also incredibly good off the ball so taking that away from them made them less of a threat. Plus Spurs now got the correct people for the correct positions. FINALLY.

    To be honest Spurs are better team without Kane. No disrespect to Kane, but Spurs were built around Kane. It was set up so the team played for an individual rather than individuals working as a team. That's why Kane's doing better in Bayern, he's an individual working as a team. Because he joined the team that was built without him he just filled in the slot.

    It won’t work. Kane likes to drop deep and play central. Which means son wont be able to play centrally and would be less effective out wide at this time. Maddison can’t play as a 10 when Kane is dropping deep as well. So someone would have to sacrifice their game.

    Spurs are winning with or without Kane. Without the sale you maybe don't get the players you need. Of course Harry Kane would have carried on scoring goals in an Ange system. Sometimes it just doesn't make any difference. Son is 12-1 to finish top scorer. I reckon it's a good outside bet. Haaland is the favorite by miles. As it sits just now, it's one goal. You'd imagine if Kane was still at Spurs they'd be even more prolific. Sadly we'll never know.

Shaktar Donetsk have won a Europa League, which is more than Spurs have done in recent decades. Of course 4 goals in a pre-season match doesn't mean that they'll score 4 in every league game, but is does indicate that they can score under that system and might get a few, especially if said player has proven themselves to be a top striker, under various managers of different styles.

You can’t rewrite the past with one or two games- overalls Maguire has been abysmal at Utd. I’m sorry about the abuse he gets but you can’t escape criticism with the performances he’s given. I’ll have to see him perform well until at least Boxing Day to say he’s actually turned things around.
