Fascinating stuff, thanks. Amazing that Bell and Braben managed to fit it all in!

Thank you so much for sharing this information. As a teenager I cut my teeth programming on the BBC, leading on to becoming a s/w engineer. I believed I knew the machine inside out until Elite came along. I spent a long time analysing the disassembled code but could never really fathom it out.

As someone coming to this as a mere player I found this fascinating. I first played the game on an electron, and now I play Horizons/Odyssey. How times have changed. Thank you for putting in all this effort to decode the code and maybe some of those detractors now who say that Elite is dying will revise their opinions. The game was and is an amazing achievement and is still a class above the competition, with a rich legacy.

Thanks Mark - fascinating stuff. Never knew about the space station and sun never being visible at the same time!

❤ Elite is a game that never ends. In a way that's a bit like social media. And what about using Mastodon distributed social media as a basis for planet systems data for a networked version of elite.❤
