Young Martin’s Reels was created to honor my dad Martin B. Stivers of Louisville KY. He was an avid fisherman and repaired thousands of fishing reels in his lifetime. I spent numerous hours watching him do so, but I have forgotten most of what he taught me. Now that he is gone, and I find myself in need of reel repair, so I am learning how it is done and trying my best to pass it on.
If I can be of assistance, feel free to contact me Rick48cj2a@yahoo.com
I would also like to thank Dennis Kuntz of 2nd Chance Tackle. His videos have helped to fill in the gaps in my “reel” knowledge. Without his KZread videos I’m afraid Young Martin’s Reels would not exist.

I appreciate your pace, thoroughness, and keeping the work in front of the camera. I will rewatch when I work on my 6500. Well, probably when I do the 5500's too.
Nice video!
I’m so glad you’re posting these videos. He has a really good voice. He reminds me of my grandpa and he’s no longer with us either. Love watching keep up the great work. Is there a way to get a hold of you for real repairs?

That’s a nice looking reel Rick. I was looking for like that. But I got the 5000c and 5500.

All very nice reels.9
After seeing that video I think I may have to acquire an Ambasssadeur like that one. In all the reels I've owned over the years I've never had an Ambassadeur. The parts in that reel look very well made. The closest reel I have that compares to the Ambassadeur is a Daiwa Millionaire 4HM.

Dan, when it came in the door with the seat broken off, I thought, “That’s a shame, it was a nice reel.” I sure didn’t think I would have a frame that fit it. I knew I had some frames in a tote but there were so many different reels made. What were the odds I would have one for it. I feel that the level wind feature adds too much drag to the spool for bait casting, but it makes a really nice catfish or trolling reel.

That is a nice reel also. I have one too. It works just as good.
I have several C-3 reels (5500/6500). My question is about that little irregular breakable black plastic washer that is on the end of the spool shaft under the tension knob. Do all these Ambassadors have that? If yes, o.k. If not how do you tell which reels need that washer. I have been told that the reels that have it will have a groove near the end of the shaft for it to seat into and the shafts (reels) without a groove don't have nor need that plastic part. Please reply. Thank you.

@@barclaysauers255 I’m sorry to say that I’m not an expert so I can’t give you an exact answer. However, I can say that all of the reels I’ve taken apart with that plastic piece, had the groove cut into the shaft of the spool.
Im trying to sell mine, exactly this one. Can you please tell me what this is worth. Mine is like new.

They are selling on EBay right now at between $45 and $65.

The drag clicker system in this reel is fairly simple. There is a flat metal spring that can be seen at around the 20 minute point in the video. That spring is attached to the plastic switch that moves the spring into and out of contact with the clicker cog mounted on the spool. As long as the spring is in contact with cog, it should make noise as the spool turns.
