    Looking at all the parts IS cool. Putting them back in their proper places is the challenge. Dennis does make it look easy in a "master mechanic" kind of way.

    Thanks guys. Looking at the little parts is cool. Looking for the little parts is not. I just spent 1/2 hour trying to find a screw that was still on my bench! Best wishes - Dennis

    Enjoy watching you work on the reels! How went through several Mitchell 302s, 308s and I am working on my old 300s now. Have to ever worked on Mitchell orca 70 and a 1170g reel. I several and I am thinking about pulling them apart and checking them out. Again I learn a lot from watching your videos.

    I had the Swedish one of these. It was perhaps the most beautiful reel I ver owned. It killed me to sell it but I couldn’t use it anymore due to my loss of vision. I changed the spool on mine to a beautiful chrome one also from the factory. I like the Swedish model far better than this one. Thanks for this one Dennis!

    The Abu Ambassadeurs made in Taiwan were made by Otomo, who now have their own reel company, and make similar round baitcasters

    i have the 7000c3 catfish special and im not gonna lie i havent cleaned it once owned it for years i use it for salt and fresh water simple spray with clean water no issues until recenntly the spool has significantly slowed down during casting so i figured id give it a full clean today then im going to smash some stripers

    Tough reels for parts I got 2 7000 Big Game series ABUs with stainless pinion that seized to the spool spindle hard to find parts I like the free floating spool design of the 6500 more and just bought a Penn Fathom 15 casting special that definitely outperforms my ABU 6500 older design Blue Yonder

    Parts are usually the problem. I like the Abu reels but prefer others for casting. The 7000 is my favorite for surfcasting, but it needs to be leaned after each use to keep it that way. Thanks for watching - Dennis

    @@gleiberrabelo4496 all the 7000 size reels are the same internally while the 6500 and smaller have a free floating spool only reels that are different is the old 9000 and 10000 2 speed automatics

    so are the components on this 7000 like the driveshaft/main gear and and even c-clip proportionally larger and beefier then a 6500 or 5500?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    There is not much difference. The gear retrieves are similar. The difference is largely in spool capacity

    I have a 7000C that I purchased several years ago (around1997). It was made in Sweden and has a plastic spool and 3 ball bearings. How hard would this be to convert to a metal spool? I have never used this reel.

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    Generally, if the metal and plastic spools are available for the same reel model, then all you need to do is to remove the side plate and the spool will come right out. It is a simple process where you only need a screwdriver.

    good video. i have not found my 7000 since I moved recently and will be returning to surf fishing on South Padre Island- Texas. Hopefully, it is in useable shape after 23 years of storage. I purchased this real at Borderland Hardware in Weslaco, Texas about 1983. It is a bronze color. Would this reel have been made in Asia or France? I used it for casting large Spoons on a 10" graphite rod built by Nelson's Tackle in N. Carolina. I caught a lot of redfish and more than I wanted Jack Crevelles. Overall, it worked fine. Does anyone have any knowledge of Nelson's Tackle? He was a great fellow and very knowledgeable about surf casting.

    Your reel was most likely made in Sweden. That one should tune up nicely. Once you find it, you can use this video to get it ready for those big redfish. I don't know of Nelson's Tackle - Best wishes - Dennis

    I use penetrating oils like WD40 as degreasers. I use #Flitz metal pre-cleaners and polishes for finish restoration. I use Penn Precision reel grease and oil for lubrication - Thanks for asking - Dennis
