Abstract Landscape With Watercolors And Mixed Media - 2024 - 6

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This week I’m working on an intuitive abstract landscape. The only thing I know from the start of the process is what colors I use. The rest will be determined as I go along and that’s exactly how I love to paint. Grab your paints and join me for some creative zen time. :)

Here’s a list of the materials I used for this painting: (*** I now have the ability to monetize my site. This means I can include links to the products I use and when you make a purchase using some of these links I will get a small commission. ( This applies to the Amazon links in this description and KZread Shopping Affiliate links included in my video. ) Any purchases made by using these links help me earn a little bit of money along the way, so I can continue doing this work. Please note that I will only ever add links to products that I actually like and use. Thanks in advance!***)
* Arches watercolor paper (cold pressed - amzn.to/48TL4uv)
- For this painting, I cut my paper to 5 by 7 inches.
Paper cutter - amzn.to/3OnoBhi
Artist tape - 1/2 inch - amzn.to/3SmBcm8
* A solid surface to tape the paper (you could also work on a block of paper if this is what you prefer)
* Water
Paper towel (I like to reuse mine to create painting backgrounds.)
* Decadent Pies watercolors - For this painting I used Banana Cream, Key Lime, Apple, Blackberry and Blueberry:
amzn.to/4bkNST1
Kremer Pigmente watercolor in Magic Green and Gold Pearl - shop.kremerpigments.com/us/sh.... If you can’t find Kremer Pigments in your area, CSY Art Gallery offers some really nice iridescent golds in this little set: amzn.to/49bm9Cw. And they also have an Interference Green in this little set: amzn.to/3ucjyJK
Round watercolor brushes - amzn.to/49dKrfb
Micro mini brush - amzn.to/42hb1lp
Black fountain pen - amzn.to/48TMMMr
Cartridges of black ink for fountain pen - amzn.to/42luH7z
Extra fine tip pen - amzn.to/3ShE6bD
White pen - amzn.to/3HEsZ7P

Thanks for this Gabrielle! Such luscious colours too. I thought they would be expensive, but No! So I treated myself to some.🤗 That dotty pen is another matter, though! 😱 But your approach is right up my street!

Yay!! I'm so excited you'll get to play with these colors too! ☺️ I agree about the dotting pen!! I first heard about it many months ago and I was shocked by the price as well. 😳 Then, I started having issues with pain in my hand and arm and I thought it might help, so I decided to give it a try and I have not regretted it. Now I can do all the stippling I want, with much less effort and my arm feels better. ❤️ I do wish art supplies weren't so expensive and I'm always happy to offer more cost effective options when I can. Have fun with your new Decadent Pies paints!!! 🎨 I'm smiling just imaging the joy you're going to have 🤗

I think I commented on the wrong video...these paints are luscious! I thought they'd be expensive, but they're not! So I bought some too. I've switched them and can't wait to have a proper play! Smashed that the dotty pen is so pricey though. Great looking tool!

I did get your earlier comment, but no worries! YT can be hard to navigate even for me at times!! 😉 I'm so excited you've gotten your new paints and hope you have as much fun playing with them as I do! 🎨😁 As for the dotting pen, I get it because yes, it is pricy! I've used my fountain pen for stippling for many years and when my arm feels ok, it is great too. I'm happy you're being mindful of how you spend your hard earned money 🤗 Thank you for being here with me! 💕

Thank you for sharing the beauty of the snowy woods where you live. The joy on your face was contagious!!! This was a beautiful, inspiring painting and I can’t wait to take out my Decadent Pie watercolors tomorrow to create. It was helpful to see how you wet a pallet I have so I can try to achieve that same wash effect. I love sharing in your painting journey. It enhances my own and I thank you so much for that…and the joy and authenticity you bring to your videos.

Hello sweet snow loving friend. Fresh snow is so beautiful, like little sparkling diamonds! ❄️ Garou is sooo adorable I just want to hug him, I can tell he loves the snow too! 🐶🤗 🌨 I loved your snow angel so much last week, it warmed my heart seeing you enjoy yourself so much, and hearing your cute little giggles! 🥰💕 I can't get enough of that texture you got in your painting this week! Every area was so unique, I enjoyed looking at all of the different textures. 😍 I really like the colors the green gold was creating when mixed with the blues! The metallic paints of course brought it all together! ✨I will never get tired of watching you paint! 🤩🖌️🎨 I hope your aches and pains are improving, and that you are getting more settled. I've been playing with some new art supplies, that's always fun!! 🥳 I'm very good at starting projects but not very good about finishing them. 🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️ Maybe I should work on that in 2024! 😂 I hope you have a blessed week and that you get to enjoy some more snow! ❄️☃️🎿 Big hugs to you my friend, keep on smiling! 😁🫶🤗

Hi Lori 💕🤗 Sadly, it's been so unseasonably warm here that our snow is fast melting 😔 It's still mid winter so 🤞 we will get more, but we will do our best to make the most of the outdoors regardless. ☺️ I love my Decadent Pies paint palette and every time I pull it out, I marvel at how the colors mix together 🤩 I'm so glad you enjoyed that part too! It's funny, I've never heard your voice, but I can almost hear you oohing and aahing with me when I do as well 😁 I'm so excited for you to be playing with new art supplies!! And, I also know the challenges of finishing every piece I start. Hopefully it will make you feel better or at least giggle to know I just this past week finally finished a painting I started when I was living in Colorado (over 5 years ago now 😳😂. I posted it on Instagram if you'd like to see it.) Some things just take time and more oomph I guess 😂. I try not to beat myself up over that and I hope you don't either. But, I do agree that it does feel very good to finish a project I've started and I'm doing my best to get better at that too! The aches and pains seem to be coming and going. I am never sure exactly what brings them on, but some things do affect my arms, neck and foot more than others. So, I'm doing my best to bring awareness and gentle care to my body as much as possible. I remind myself how blessed I am to have the health I do have. We all have our struggles, don't we! I hope you are doing well my friend 💕 And may your week be blessed and full of joy! Lots of love heading your way ❤️🤗

Hi Bernice ❤️🤗 I love it when I read that others have similar reactions to what I have in the beginning of my painting process! I don't believe I as daunted by the beginning of my process but I sure was after adding the white 😂 The creative process is such an exercise in patience and trust both with oneself and the process itself. I'm glad you can stick it out with me when something in the video irks you 😉 In some ways, strange as it may seem, maybe it is helping you discover how you can continue to work through the parts of your process that irk you also. Even after years of painting, I still have moments of "aye yaye yaye!! Am I ever going to make it through this ugly stage!?" 😂 And every time I do, I feel so happy I stuck it out regardless of the results. Thank you for being so kind to me! Thank you for showing up for me and thank you for showing up for yourself. 💕 I'm so happy you gave yourself permission to blissfully explore the sand and collect your patterned stones 🥰 I love strolling the beach and doing the same. Lots of love to you sweet friend 🤗💕

Thank you so much for your kind words!! 💕 And thank you for sharing what you see in the painting - I LOVE that!! The coarse grain salt is from the shaker in our Kirkland brand grinder. It says it is sea salt on the bottle. We don't have a Costco around us anymore, but my husband stocked us up a while back (like overboard stocked us up 😂) so we are now probably never going to need to buy salt ever again 🤣🤣🤣 Still, I don't like to waste so I tend to reuse the grains from my process. 😉

And yet again, all I can say is--Stunning!!!! Ordinarily I am more drawn to cool colors, but in this painting, it was the warm ones that I kept staring at! And that green-- when I first saw it, I thought it was kind of ugly, but when it mixed with the other colors, WOW! Gorgeous!

I’m smiling right now! ☺️ looking at these colours in my paint palette, I wonder how they can turn out to create something so beautiful but really they mix so well together and that’s why it’s one of my favourite pallets to work with. And I giggle at the fact that you thought the green was ugly at first because I had a very same reaction. 😂 The first time I painted with it I wasn’t so sure about it but when I added water to it and saw it mixed with the other colors, I knew it would be a keeper. I’m glad you stuck it out with me and that you liked the painting in the end. ☺️ Thank you so much for your kindness, honesty, and for making the time to connect! ❤️

Thank you Paula ❤️☺️ Sometimes I eyeball it 😉, but most times, I use a ruler to give myself some little pencil dots as a guide. It works like a charm and the pencil dots can either be erased or just simply disappear in the paint. ☺️ I hope this helps! Thank you for watching 💕

I wanted to order that magic green. I love it but I live in US and the shipping was 12$ for a 16$ pan. Not in my budget.

But I just realized I have some beautiful acrylic paints that would work very well for this purpose. Yay!

Yeah, that's crazy expensive isn't it!! That's why I wait until I have a few items to order to make it seem more reasonable... But, still Kremer Pigments are definitely more expensive. I have listed some less expensive good alternatives in my video description. Please let me know if you have a hard time finding the video description and I'll share a little video I created just for this purpose. ☺️

I can’t bring myself to start adding pen. Do I go just behind the feathery salt lines or right over top of them?

I get it! Sometimes that next step feels so daunting! So for me, I always ask myself "What is the next simplest thing I can do to keep my process going?" Maybe starting with a finer tip of pen could feel like less of a commitment because the lines are lighter. Also, do you really like the look of the pen work? Maybe it's not speaking to you for another reason and that could be your own inner creative voice trying to nudge you in a different direction. If you really want to add some pen work then I can also suggest having a look at the lines and marks left by the salt. I often use these marks as a guide for where to add my own marks. Most importantly, be gentle and kind with yourself. 💕 There is no way to screw this up! Really! 😉 If you create a mark and you don't like it - you just learned something important about your own visual interest. Whether you like the marks or not, you win every time you push forward and make that mark because you are gaining experience and you are learning something. For instance, in this process, I added the white lines and then I didn't like them so much so I covered them with my magic green. When it comes to painting, the process is never done until you feel ready to call it done because you can always use a light wash of gesso to go over the whole piece and start over. There is a world of possibility waiting for you! You've got this! 🤗
