    I would add to your design a plate on the bottom with a lip that would prevent the jack from jumping out from under it because the nature of these Jack's is to travel backyards as you're jacking the car up. Your invention is really useful for doing a ton of work underneath a car because it gets the tires out of the way yet is much safer than removing the tires in case somehow it were to fall. Thanks for posting!

    @@gedman9527 . You are right that you should use axle stands but this is a great way to lift the car to put the axle stands in before you get under the car they make hoists that lift the whole car on four arms and they are safe. This would more than likely easily hold more than the jack could lift. If anything it is over engineered. The car probably weighs around 2,000kg which means 500kg per side on the stand, not really much for the size of the steel used.

    Nice first attempt. But it would be more useful for cars that can't move under own power if the 4 rods were wider, and are inserted into receivers. This way you position it under the car, insert the 4 rods front and aft of tires, and lift. Lower the car elsewhere or when done, pull out 4 rods, remove the assembly and jack.

    I wouldn’t trust it with out blocks under the wheels, so if you have to use blocks why not just use ramps. It’ll be easy to weld some drop down stabilizing legs on it though , maybe some straps over the tires to fasten it down .. Pretty good idea 🤙

  • @dave5176

    @dave5176

    7 ай бұрын

    I can't use the ramps sometimes because they get in the way when putting jacks under. And my Corvette won't clear the ramps. And there's only one place where you can put the ramps on, so lifting this way makes sense. And bricks or two by fours are blocks.

    This is a simple and interesting device, but it is only suitable for cars with a huge ground clearance. Most modern cars are not compatible with it. The device will only work with the back where there is a void. In front, there is the suspension, the engine crankcase, and its protection, there is barely 130 mm clear. In addition, a square pipe for heavy cars needs to be reinforced with scarves from the bottom to ensure sufficient rigidity. Because even in the video you can see how the pipe bends. After 10 lifts, it will take the shape of a hemisphere.

I always wondered if someone makes air-rams to mount permanently under a vehicle to lift either of the four wheels for a quick tire change like in the Indy 500 pits? Be nice if you could just hook up to a small compressor, lift either of the 4 off the ground, and it would always be there underneath for when & if you get a flat tire in the dark and/or during shitty weather.

    would be a lot better used with a low clearance jack to bring down the height of it, great for transverse engines where they either have no jack point at the front or its off set due to the engine, g'box layout

    Wouldn't need that often, could just use the jack by itself. That would come in handy for vans with the twin I- Beams though. You can't lift them up dead center in the front.

    I see this as a great time saving idea. I've driven vehicles up those cheap stamped sheet metal ramps and i've actually seen one collapse after the vehicle was up on both ramps. This looks well built. There are some things I would do differently but it would have to be made with a few different vehicles in mind. Lifting a vehicle by the tires like this eliminates the suspension sag. For those who point out that it is useless because the tires can't be removed for brake service or it is in the way for an oil change must be working under vehicles without using jack stands. I really hope that is not the case for that is extremely absent minded.🙄 This device allows a person to drive their car onto the rods, apply the parking brake, chock the wheels that are not being lifted, raise both sides of the car at the same time to the required height, install appropriate jack stands to both sides of the car without having to reposition the jack, lower the car onto the jack stands, and then remove the jack and lifting device. You are now uninhibited by the jack and lifting device.

  • @markmccoy8304

    @@peterwiremuormsby9383 Unless the vehicle has a solid axle housing on the front, the jack stands should be placed under the frame rails where they support the vehicle more securely than under a control arm. I'm sure you can find many reasons why you think it's a bad idea and maybe it is a bad idea for you, but maybe it's a great idea for others. Can you not find any possibility where this device could be helpful? Keep in mind that if you built one, you would design it to suit your application.

    Great idea no doubt.. Have a few ideas to possibly improve upon the original design: 1. Make a sort of stay (or a small cutout) for the under side of the tool to ensure its exactly centered on the jack 2. Make the rods under the wheels roll. Meaning the Thinner pieces under the tires actually spin with the speed of the tire. Sort of like a dyna setup 3. Possibly make the lifting mechanism lift from the rear-end vs. Lifting from wheels Therfore freeing up the wheels for tire work/, doing brakes, etc

    On #3. He stated don't crawl under the vehicle with just this lifting it, meaning, USE JACK STANDS! If you have it on the jack stands you can drop it out and roll it out of the way. On #2 I see what you mean but if they roll the car will push it as it tries to roll on.

    Cars weight is also not identical on both sides of center as well so you need a decent amount of strength from the middle centering piece to insure it doesn’t crack or break cause the right side wants to come up easier than the left

    The reason I Jack the car up and put Jack stands is so I can roll around under the car without having a big long piece of tubing stopping me in my tracks. I honestly can’t think of a reason why this would make anything easier for me. Maybe I’m just slow and haven’t thought deep enough. Nice job making it,and if it works for you that’s all that matters.
