I know this is probably a long shot, but could we maybe get an update in like 6 months to a year regarding if everything worked as intended? Because I think many people will use these as a guide (or at least what brands to buy for some applications).

No, these videos are not content they are advertisements for intel and intel won't pay for a follow up, especially if the follow up is that they swapped over to running an AMD cpu. Losing the revenue stream that running intel ads brings in is too risky for such a thing.

@@benfubbs2432 who says they swap to AMD? Lol I personally prefer Intel because Ryzen has a well known heating issue and my colleagues who work in repair (I'm a programmer, I don't know a lot on hardware) all say they have more problems with amd than Intel... Being the most simple instructions ever is the point. I don't get it either. They have it down to a science at this point, as they should have after 70+ years of doing things this way. If there was a way to make them simpler - they would. But they've nailed the formula a long time ago. Then again, I only hear people say that jokingly. I never meet anyone who actually has a problem following them. It's like a meme or something. Had this been a real issue (people not understanding the instructions) they would have done something about it. Like their concept is to have simple instructions so you possibly can't mess anything up.
I really respect that Linus, possibly from being a family man himself, evidently allows some degree of flexible working for his employees. It's important that people can enjoy their time with their loved ones.
When you see employees for a company having children, pets and taking care of their loved ones it usually means that they have a great boss who pays them well, they love their jobs and feel confident that they are not going to lose it for some stupid reason. LMG seems to be a great place to work and Linus has to be one the best human beings you can work for!

It would be so great to get a "how is the home office looking now" episode where you would go to all these 5k setup update houses and see how well stuff still performs. Probably not sponsored by intel of course at that point, bust just saying. Seeing people's home office setups is actually very cool and addicting!

oh hell yeah awesome new intro! props to the guys who made it! you the champ!
That monitor mount is really tricky as it may simply get loose as it is pressing against an angled surface. It only needs to move slightly to become completely loose very fast and then fall on the desk. You really need to add some angled piece of wood (or 3D print) and screw it to the desk so it cannot move. Then on that piece you should clamp the monitor arm. This will fail rather catastrophically very soon.

What a clean setup. I really love this one. Something I'd copy. And I'm getting 12400 too. It's cheap and fast.
It's weird that this series is sponsored by INTEL but there is one brand that have had the same time on display in all of the series: IKEA. Have not you tried reach them? It would be nice to see the $7000 INTEL-IKEA Extreme tech upgrade!!! I really like the series (and to think that this was all a plot from Linus to find who steals from the LTT company) That is a cute baby. So weird that Linus has had three of them and still thinks that that sound was from forniture. 😂😂😂

For me this is one of the worst, they could've easily modded the Z170 board to be compatible with 9th gen with minimal issues, but because intel's sponsoring the video and they didn't want to piss them off, they didn't. Z170 and Coffee Lake support is actually possible and easy.

Honestly, the benq lamp actually is kinda awesome. A lamp that just shines down on your whole desk and not shine into your eyes and the doesn't cause the glare on your monitor regardless of what it is and, unlike the china brand knockoffs, the day light is colour accurate to enough to not affect your colour grade on screen.

Yep, light where you want it.
Good work dood, good job! That room is a sea of black, get a small slice of color in there, too!
I think this setup is my favorite out of all of them. ESPECIALLY THAT SHELF
Did anyone else foresee that the Z170 would not work with the 9700k? I was sitting there wondering how Linus hadn't noticed that he was trying to install 9th gen in a 6th gen board. Side note, it should be entirely possible for those to work together if not for Intel unnecessarily changing their pinout for LGA 1151.
@DerrickRG

I'd be rocking a 9900k if not for that. Went with Ryzen instead.
@Steamrick
Жыл бұрын
Intel probably changed pin layout because most of the older boards didn't have a power delivery capable of dealing with the likes of the 9900K. The 7700K had half the cores and close to half the power draw. Sure, enthusiast boards could handle it, but those aren't the ones Intel would have been worried about.

@@Steamrick Apparently its possible to flash a different bios on the z170 boards and get 8th/9th gen chips working. You also have to cover a couple pins with electrical tape or some kinda mask. But you're right about needing to watch what CPU you use and be sure the board is rated for it.e of

10:28 - the Z170i Pro can easily be BIOS modded to support coffee lake (with a few pins taped on the i7-9700K). It's an artificial Intel limitation - an afternoon of reading the forums and experimenting will get it working, albeit not OOTB.
Love this, one I'd my favourites; a proper geek upgrade. I run a monitor light, the Xiaomi one, it's awesome. There's a wireless control dialz changes brightness and temperature. The one here, especially with the weird angle of the monitor, looks odd imo.

I've got two 16TB Exos drives JBOD in a dual Synology NAS and I can easily fit my entire life onto it. I use it as my third backup level of four levels. I have about the last 30 years of my life on it (even files from DOS days). It will take me one or two decades more to fill the 16TB drives before worrying about upgrading it. If I had an 8 drive x 4TB setup I would definitely upgrade it to a new NAS box with 16TB drives now. The 16TB Exos drives were $400 each from NewEgg Canada.
19:42 "why would you ever want to shine light at your monitor?"... exactly what I was thinking, that light source isn't like a laser beam, it has an ambient field
Linus' paint job may not have been stellar, but we can be sure it was eggshell.
The intel extreme tech upgrade series is my favourite you should do more
For the monitor mount, there is usually a through-hole mounting option that uses a 8mm hole in the desk. With a chamfered edge on the desk, I would recommend the through-hole option, NOT using the monitor clamp in the way that Linus prescribed. Unless he is moving the curse from the front I/O to the monitor, then clamping the monitor arm on an angle is perfectly fine
I love how part of this series is just the chaotic energy that comes with Linus being in your house.
Gotta say, that shot of the final setup was sexy AF! Really digging the lighting Brandon chose!
