The song “SOS (d'un Terrien en détresse)” is originally from a French-Canadian musical called ‘Starmania’ from the 1970s and is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform. Dimash is from Kazakhstan. He appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's “I Am A Singer” competition. “I Am A Singer” is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode and is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds and they judge the show by points each week. At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the history of the show, and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a ‘wildcard’ competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Dimash sings most every genre, Opera, Pop, Folk, R&B, and even raps. Put all those in a blender and put them all in one song, That is Dimash. Never review Dimash's performance on the American show "Worlds Best". We boycott that show, because of the dishonorable way they treated Dimash. Dimash was 22 when he sang the song you just reviewed. He is now 27 and his voice has matured, along with the fact that he continues to train 3 hours a day. He composes, arranges, and has even directed one of his music videos....I have been a fan for 5 yrs, since he first appeared on YT. I am old and live alone, so I really enjoy watching with YT reactors. Dimash has multi-millions of fans around the globe, aged 8 to 80. He also put the words "Gentleman' and "Class" back in the dictionary. I would like to suggest "Golden" and "Be With Me"... MUSIC VIDEOS, not the live versions. Watch the live versions later, they are great too, but not the same experience.

This was 4 years ago, you should hear him today! Dimash is THE greatest vocalist of ALL time. His range has increased since then, he now has over seven octaves! He CAN sing anything and he does sing in all genres. He sings in 13 languages, including many English songs which he can now speak without the aid of a translator.

Yeah he performs continually jaw-dropping type of performances showing off his incredible voice and talent that he is practiced over and over to perfection. And the weird thing is that once you react to any of his performances you actually get a chance to see perfection over and over again.... In every category of entertainment. It's almost unsettling. How can someone be that perfect that often and THEN to find out he's a perfect human on the inside when it comes to who he is. He embodies perfection in craft and humility as a human. Nope, he does not speak 13 languages... He is fluent in kazakh and russian, improving his english (He has a special accent and his fans call it DINGLISH and they love it so much! 😁) He can sing in like 12 languages, but he mostly uses russian, kazakh, english and chinese.... Also italian for opera pieces 😁

It wasn't a fair competition though because the show originally was set up to only allow Chinese singers to win. That's the only reason he didn't get first place.

This was a historic moment and this is the song of the songs for Dimash and us, his Dears (This is what Dimash calls us fans.) This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight. In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old) and the first non-Chinese. Foreign participants were actually forbidden until then. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home. Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name should be symbolic and understandable to the public. The name Dimashi was chosen and Chinese hyroglyphs were assigned to the 3 syllables: * Di - achievement * Ma - gemstone * Shi - dream, wish. Only professional, award-winning singers take part. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after this song Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door. The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to KZread ... and so we became Dimash's Dears. The Chinese organizers planned that Dimash would survive two episodes of the competition. They didn't really believe in him. But Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: next year Jessie J. won).

Hello Dimash is the best singer in the world regardless of who weighs him. His vocal range is 7 octaves, multi instrumentalist, he plays like nobody else, he is perfect. He did not win the contest, because he is not Chinese, he was second, but from that contest he rose to fame.

@@Freyyll Dimash became a superstar in China and Asia on the back of this competition. He really didn’t need to win! I Am Singer invites very famous Chinese singers to compete, in the annual competition. The 500 strong audience are all high up in the music industry and they are the judges, who are the same throughout the 14 week competition. Dimash was the youngest ever contestant at 22 and the first non-Chinese to compete. He was unknown at this first performance. He was invited by one of the producers to compete, who had heard him sing in another country. He was expected to go out the first week, he was placed 1st in this first week of this season (2017). Dimash is now 27 and he is perfect singer here, but he is even more perfect now! He now does things with his voice that no other human can do!

Dimash, singing here in 2017 in French, is a phenomenon from Kazakhstan. He started singing lessons at 5 when it was found he has perfect pitch. He is university educated with degrees in classical opera, another in contemporary music, pop and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has just (18th June 2020) completed his Masters specialising in Composition, and receiving his Masters degree with Honours, having achieved the maximum score of 100% and has now in the second year of his PhD. His range is over 6 octaves (maybe 7 now) but Dimash is dismissive and says it's not how big your range is but what you do with it. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a decorated national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He sings in 15 different languages, speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is almost fluent with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin which he says is a very hard language to learn but again he is doing well with it. In this performance he was 22 and in a reality show for famous professional singers, with a full orchestra and backing vocalists (nothing like the Voice or AGT), in China he was invited as a wildcard and after this one song was catapulted to worldwide stardom and became a pop superstar in China. He is also famous in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries, and in Russia mainly for his neo classical work with Igor Krutoy and many of those works are very operatic, but he has now introduced pop songs there too. His vocals range from a rich bass, baritone, through to an extremely high soprano and his whistle register which he rarely uses, he has hit a D8 for 5 seconds with vibrato. He was on a solo world tour in 2019 and in his concerts he sings for around 3 hours with an eclectic mix of styles. 6ft 3 or 191cm Dimash, is from a very musical family both parents and his sister sing, mother is a soprano. Dimash was offered a place with the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan when he graduated but turned it down to follow his own path and he has been very successful thus far, but I suspect world domination will soon come his way. He is a multi instrumentalist too and is very competent with 8 instruments but can play just about anything. He has is 27 now, and is mostly known as a live performer, he has released a triple platinum album ( platinum in 37 seconds, triple platinum in under an hour) and a new album will be released soon. He has his own record label and production company. It has been recognised that his high notes are not whistle, but head voice, Dimash rarely uses his whistle register but when he does its spectacular like everything else about him. He has millions of fans worldwide and I am definitely one of them, and he calls us his Dears, as we are all as dear to him as his family, and he means it, he knows who helped to make him famous. He is a softly spoken, polite, elegant and very humble respectful young man. He deserves every bit of the success he is having, he has worked very hard for the past 20 plus years and now his dreams as a young 5 year old are coming true. There is an interview he did for BBC World Service in 2018, its on his official KZread channel, where the interviewer showed a drawing he did when he was 5 of him singing on a big stage with microphones, speakers and his beloved music cassettes showing his desire to be where he is now. His recent sellout world tour has been postponed due to the covid-19 epidemic but will restart when its safe to do so. He has concerts lined up in Dubai on March 25th, Dusseldorf and Prague in April 2022 tickets on sale now. There will be others around the world including South America. Unfortunately, the rules at that time did not allow a non-national to win and Dimash was runner up. You’re correct in saying he can do it all. He is trained in both classical and contemporary and has even done some rap (in Kazakh). He has sung in 13 languages (most recently added Japanese Ikanaide to his repertoire). As beautiful as his singing in other languages is, it is inspirational to hear him in either of his native languages of Kazakh or Russian. Sinful Passion, Omir Ôter, Qairan Elim, Daididau, Know are all different and in his native languages. Be with Me is in English and also different. If you like classical sounds, Ogni Pietra (Olimpico) was composed for Dimash by Russian pianist/composer Igor Krutoy. Ti Amo Cosi is a trio with Dimash, Lara Fabien and Aida Garifuilina. Magnificent! I don’t know Zhou Shen, except for a couple comments on Dimash videos claiming Di sucks because Zhou is way better & a “real” artist, lol. Glad to see someone who doesn’t make me hate him without even hearing him 😂 If I was going to see one thing by Zhou, what would you recommend..?

@@lolawants2008 I heard him. He is good. For me, not in Dimash's category though. His voice doesn't sound unique to me compared to a timbre of other good female singers I know. For me, Dimash sounds unique in all his registers. Just my opinion.

@@lolawants2008 Zhou Shen has a beautiful and unique voice, something between a teenager and a female voice. But he is very different from Dimash. I can only say Dimash is in a league of his own. Anyway I would also recommend Zhou Shen’s ‘big fish’ and ‘forbidden city’, his voice in these songs is angelic. I agree with you about Zhou Shen’s fans. Many of them must diss Dimash for no reasons. In many of Zhou Shen’s reaction videos I saw comments such as “Zhou Shen sings emotionally, he doesn’t show off”, or “I love Zhou’s singing, you don’t hv to sing the highest and lowest notes to be the best singer”. Some only subtly ‘hint’, some openly name Dimash, criticising his style. Whereas in Dimash’s videos, we won’t see comments dissing Zhou, no Dimash’s fan ever say “that’s why I love Dimash, he doesn’t sing like a teenager/female”. We respect zhou Shen and leave him alone.

This song was about 4 octaves. But that was 4 years ago. He sings lower now. He doesn't go much higher than that in his falsetto, but he has other registers. He was the first non-Chinese, non-professional invited to the show, but they weren't really emotionally ready to let him win. He got exposed to an audience of 600 million that was suddenly wild for him. This was the opening act of the opening night of the 2017 show. Just a little pressure. His digital music release shortly after this 13 week show went triple platinum in a day, so he's not complaining. He goes back each year to do a "returning winner done good" demo song, much like he does for the amateur shows he competed on. You might try his Sinful Passion at Sochi in 2018 with the original band that performed it when he was about 4. One of his fans has cleaned out a short half-second digital glitch from the official recording : kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYCspcyCeMu8Xco.html . It's tempting to go right to his recent recordings, but I think it is more rewarding to slide up through the years at a gradual rate. The rest of the 2017 "I Am Singer" series is also a very good idea. He sings in at least Italian and Mandarin also in that series. He learned the Mandarin song in a week phonetically since he only spoke a few traveling words in Chinese at the time. Chinese reviewers find it hard to believe he wasn't a fluent speaker. Oh, this was not just some natural talent that produced this performance. 17 years of hard work, good opportunities, strong family support and lots of natural talent produced this, because it is only barely possible, even when everything goes right. We are so lucky.

As far as I know, his highest in head voice is F#6, and beyond that is whistle. In this song, the highest note is E6. But that's not what makes him the greatest, but the beauty of his tone in all registers and the control with which he switches seamlessly from one register to another, and not less importantly, the story telling and emotions he conveys.

This performance is from more than 5 years ago.....live recorded in December, 2016....premier broadcasted on January 21st, 2017. It was not audience of 600 million. It was actually within 24 hours of premier broadcast of this performance.....it GARNERED MORE THAN 600 MILLIONS VIEWS.....WITHIN 24 HOURS IN CHINA alone.

This performance was Dimash's first at this 2017 competition and with it he launched himself on the world stage. He began vocal training at age five and was twenty-two at the time. He just turned twenty-eight. Therefore, he has had five years to "improve!" The competition was sort of a sing-off between established artists. He was an unknown, the youngest, and came in second. He won, nevertheless, as he successfully launched himself. One of his most recent releases, if not the most recent, is "Ikanaide" (ee kah nah ee deh) that was his submission to the 20th Tokyo Jazz Festival, sung in Japanese. This would place "bookends" on his career as you dive down the rabbit hole, which you will.
