@a_wild_Kirillian

@@dabbinghitlersmemes1762, spending less time isn't going to save you from going to a defended square. Maybe you're calculating wrong for your level then. You probably should spend time just checking if there's a better move (like checks, captures, attacks) and if the move you want to make blunders anything / follows fundamentals. You don't calculate lines if you can't remember your piece is under attack. In a case where your queen's hanging you only need to check safe squares for her and possible checks, pins or counter attacks. That stuff is fast and obvious if you look for it. But often we rush without doing all the steps.

I haven’t played chess since I was like 7 or 8, I was never great at it to begin with. But I was recommended this channel randomly by the algorithm and started watching a bunch of videos. I played again today for the first time since I was in elementary school and I played well (still like trash) but I could hear Gotham saying “if this takes then, takes, takes, takes, I win a rook” and stuff like that in my head. I genuinely think it made me play better. I even used my king at the end to promote a pawn and set up a nice check mate.

I think the process goes like this: Levy teaches these people about something, they reinterpret it differently and then they go play games using those morphed interpretations: 20:33 I think this is what they perceive as a gambit? 21:31 A countergambit! 23:05 Danger levels! 23:48 You don't have to outright checkmate, you can simplify to a winning endgame!
@johnwalker1058
5 ай бұрын
I get that feeling too. Oftentimes, it seems like a player is trying to replicate the setup for a certain type of opening, but fails to realize that that setup doesn't quite work as well for a different type of position, so they don't realize how badly they're misplaying the opening by improvising their own opening theory. They just memorized an arrangement of pieces or a sequence of moves and seem to think that they can automatically repeat what they memorized without understanding.
I hope this series never dies

on the first game white pins the bishop. when newbies learn about pins, pinning knights is natural, it doesn't threaten your piece back, pinning a bishop though is one of the coolest things you can do in chess, only surpassed by pinning a queen - now this is awesome. Not sure about their elo, maybe average? I'd guess white knows a thing or two they just didn't want to play for some reason.

The fact that in game two capturing the free queen with the horsey was considered a great move is hilarious
To be fair to the last game, at 23:05 black attacking the queen with the rook was actually pretty clever, because it traps the queen. The only way for white to try for an even trade is Qg4, but then black will refuse the trade and go Qxf2+ and then take a rook, which is not good. So white correctly saw that sacking the queen for the rook was the best option, and with plenty of material left and a pawn close to queening, white was winning despite black’s little maneuver. So the lesson here is: if you want Levy to complement you on a clever late game move, your opening/middle game better not be trash!
@isavenewspapers8890
9 ай бұрын
The queen is not trapped; White has Bf5, blocking the attack. In fact, you'll notice that after Qxf6, the evaluation on the left immediately goes from about +7 to about -0.4. Rf6 is a terrible move, as it relinquishes defense of the bishop on e5, which ends up causing Black serious problems. So the REAL lesson here is: if you want a compliment on a clever late game move, then actually play one.

Interesting fact: in both the first and fifth games of this episode, both White and Black had the same amount of time left at the end of their games (at the end of the first game both players had 10 minutes and 48 seconds, and at the end of the fifth game both had 47 seconds)
Its insane like moves that are actual performances are being made at 650 and Levy insults them into the ground and yells at them for being "obviously triple-digit" like theyre out there licking the floor. Then I look at this and go "huh well I guess 650s arent that smart" and proceed to lose 3 matches in a row at 350
