Why does that look like a creeper checkmate....

This achievement and the rare king checkmate achievement (discover checkmate with the king) are both achievable with the famous historical game "the perfect king hunt" by Edward Lasker, but not at the same time obviously… He could either move the king up check mate or long castle check mate

"Under the FIDE rules and enforced in most tournaments, castling is considered a king move, so the king must be touched first; if the rook is touched first, a rook move must be played instead." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castling#:~:text=Under%20the%20FIDE%20rules%20and,move%20must%20be%20played%20instead.

Gotham Chess did a video of what appears to have been an **actual game by players who were genuinely seeking to win**, in which a player had a move available which would have won by checkmate, but instead played a not-quite checkmate where the opponent's only legal move was to win by checkmate.

I saw this video and didn't think anything of it and never thought for a second I could achieve this feat, until yesterday. Halfway through the game the 1400+ elo lost his queen and I hadn't castled so I thought I'd give it a go. Happy to say I can now say I'm a member of this very prestigious club! Great video and thanks for the inspiration.

You’re playing the wrong opening to get the achievement fast. I got it playing the nimzo where the queen side knight comes out then you push queen pawn 2 spaces, get the bishop out then king side knight and king pawn 1 space to get the other bishop out. This allows you to be able to castle to either side. Also there’s some tricky lines in the nimzo which forces the opponent to castle queen side which puts you and them in the position to be able to castle into mate.

I actually got recently an short castles mate,but before he made a move he lost on time.

If you play enough online, you'll get some really cool positions. Closest I got to this one was a Qside castle check, but that's not really rare.

I did a king move checkmate about a year or so back and i didn’t realize until right after that i could’ve castle mated him instead. Damn im kicking myself now knowing that the achievement it’s soo rare.

Try to keep the queen and king together during the whole game and also castle checkmate. Plus, I castled checkmate just now with martin.

I checkmated my opponent by castling 3 times, 2 times from opening staford gambit and 1 time from traxler counterattack, Eric Rosen has also video How he did that from staford and also mamaged to do that from Traxler (it was always long-castle, short is probably imposible :D)

How about a double checkmate by **two pieces which have never left their starting squares** (and don't leave it on the last move)? E.g. given "2N5/1pK5/k7/P7/8/8/4P3/R4B2 w - - 0 1", assuming White's rook and bishop have never moved, 1. e4 would force 1...b5, allowing 2. axb6#, with neither of the pieces attacking Black's king having ever moved during the entire game.

Fun fact: I once missed castle checkmate because i was too focused on skewering the king to the queen with my bishop. that ruined my day. but seriously, bro should of played en passant and let tacotacio play e5 (only move) then castle checkmate.
