The best guitar duo ever!
Brillant concert (Was it a BBC Radio 3 broadcast?). The Abreu brothers, the Assad brothers, Brazil guitar duo, The Sequiera - Lima duo : Brazil does seem to have a longstanding tradition of truly exceptional guitar duos. Thank you for uploading

Yes, it was. I recorded about 100 of these guitar broadcasts, so far put up about 70.
Wonderful artists. After the duo broke up, Sergio Abreu became a very respected luthier in Brazil. Sadly, he died a few days ago at the age of 74.

Sad news indeed.
Duo extraordinário. Sempre escutei suas interpretações.
If you were to make a list of the greatest guitar duos these gentlemen would be first, followed by several empty places...no one else even comes close.
Sergio and Eduardo played professionally until 1975. Today Sergio is a luthier, he continues making custom-made guitars at Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro and Eduardo became an engineer and there is no news about him. They left the international career very early. Guitarcoop is re-releasing the BBC's 1970 concert CD.
What guitarists! Thank you for posting it. I cannot understand why great musicians like these men and others, quit!?

No one can truly understand another. What someone chooses as their life course is their own affair, and should be respected. Being famous is not all it's cracked up to be. The demands upon one's talent can easily exceed what is reasonable, and it can get really old after a time, as in "if this is Tuesday then this must be Cincinnati." They were indeed great. I truly love what they did. But nothing lasts forever, not even the stars.

In an interview to Guitarcoop Sergio said 1 of the 2850 reasons he had to quit is he hated to give interviews. You can find it on youtube

Based on his interview and on the biography of famous people: Because when you're famous you have to deal with a bunch of douchebags who think you're their instrumment to make money and use dirty ways to make you do whatever they want you to do. Being famous is not for anyone and until you reach the point where you can tell the douchebags to go fuck themselves and find MOST of everything in your way, you need to take a lot of shit. As a luthier he probably found more autonomy and comfort to work.

Pressure of society made them quit I bet. I'm sure they never quit music.
Precisão absoluta! Já houve outro duo desse nível?
I had heard these two, but am grateful STG to renew my acquaintance with them. Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed these amazing players (it happened last week that their heirs, the Assad brothers, played in my local town and were amazing also).
Thank you for posting. Remarkable duo.

+John Saldivar You reminded me I have one of their old LPs (no Sor on it though, some Scarlatti & Albeniz), I'll need to have a listen to it again.
I had not realized that these two fine guitarists split up their duet still in their 20's. Does anyone have a reliable account as to what happened? Many thanks.

+groovedarete According to NARKIVE: In the early seventies, the duo career was abruptly interrupted when Eduardo decided to abandon his concert activities [apparently didn't like touring]. He pursued a career in engineering, Sérgio continued his concert and recording career until the early eighties when he switched his attention to guitar building.

Yes, I know. I'm a close friend of Sergio (I wrote a biography of him), and, by the way of all the people of the Guitarcoop - a superb work! Thanks!
"Disbanded"? What happened??

Not sure of the details, but Sergio became a guitar maker. Apparently he passed away very recently.

The first to give up the career was Eduardo, who became a electrical engineer/researcher. Sergio had a small solo career and then became a luthier, building more than 600 instruments. He passed away earlier this year.
