Amazing! I recommend playing a game called GHPC! Its very similar to real life tank engagements in the 1980s. Well done sir!

I heard of it before, not sure if doctrine or manuals changed but some of it is wrong/could be done wayyyy better. It’s definitely a good game though, and one of the more accurate ones out there

Those are some smooth and pretty fuckin quick loads. Good shit man. Just gotta be a little more on top of arming that gun. I always just armed it right after the door closed regardless or depending on the crew I would arm it after they identify a target that isn't supposed to be serviced with coax.

Maybe a stupid question from a Non-Tanker :) After the incredible fast reload is done at 0:12, it takes until 0:16 until you shout "Up" - I thought the "Up" is a message to the gunner/commander that the reloading is done - or does it work differently?

It really depends on who you’re working with on your crew, like another loader in the comments said you can do it right after you load the round if the TC wants it that way, or you can do it by the book, which is after a fire command is said. Something like; “GUNNER, SABOT, TANK!” UP! “GUNNER, MPAT, PC!” UP! Or in this case since it was the TC only engagement, it was “TANK, LOAD SABOT!” UP!

"up" means the round is loaded and the gun is armed. This lets the gunner and tc know that weapon is hot and ready to fire.

That's the issue with the abrams, the slow moving door that allows access to the ammunition. That's significantly slows down the effective rate of fire

Yeah that’s true. But a more experienced loader than me loads the honeycomb in a specific way, so he could only have to open it halfway to get the round out. Risky but if you do it right it shaves off a good second or two

@tankentwerfer3013 fair point, still its a down side to all the abrams regardless of the skill of the loader. It only takes barely a second for an enemy tank commander to Give the word to fire and that might be the end of the fight. Albeit, Chinese and Russian tanks suck shit so bad that the only thing that could pose a threat to the abrams are leopard 2 tanks and those are on the same team as us

@@michaelmohney1433 yes, that is why you need a good gunner to get a first shot hit. Personally, I can load faster than most eastern autoloaders (if not all), so given the shock of being hit with a 30 lb dart there’s enough time for us to get another shot off. The abrams isn’t invincible and I think the leopard is a better tank, but I would rather be in the abrams than any other

It depends, during gunnery everything is supposed to be by the book. So in that case you say it after a fire command like GUNNER, SABOT, TANK! Or GUNNER, MPAT, PC! … but whenever you’re in actual combat or doing platoon live fire when they’re not monitoring your interior comms, I just say UP whenever they see a tank, or directly after I load a shell. Ontop of that whenever we’re in an engagement that has different targets like tanks and PC’s plus infantry, I’ll say the name of the shell prior to saying up, like SABOT UP! Or CAN UP!

Something I'm curious of, in a lot of WWII stories, at least from the western front of Europe, tankers tended to give their specific tanks nicknames. Would you say this practice is still in use today, or has it fallen out of favor?

It sort of still is, but nowadays you would normally have to qualify top shot crew in your unit in order to be given that privilege. Infact, some units don’t even allow it anymore. Since we’re peacetime now, things have really changed and everything sort of turns into a “competition” or something you “earn”
