In some parts of Africa when a child is baptized they are given a biblical name or it may be called Christian name or baptismal name. I wonder if these verses are the basis of that or if it stems from colonialism. Either way, if it is done because of scripture, it is an outward way of showing that this person is a Christian or at least from a Christian family. Just pondering out loud lol.
