Perfect simple instructions! I mirrored your build except made ours a 12'x16'. Never built anything like this before but because of you I was able to make it and now my family can enjoy for many years to come! Much respect from South Florida!

And here, too! The 16' x 8' x 52" deck I just finished building here in Maryland was my first attempt and exceeded our expectations. For structural peace of mind, I used 1/2" carriage bolts to secure the 2" x 6" rim joists to the 4" x 4" posts, 3/8" lag bolts to secure the 2" x 4" diagonal cross braces underneath, and metal hangers for the joists and stringers (cheap and convenient). It feels ROCK SOLID and completely transformed the experience of our 32' x 16' x 52" AGP (how wonderful to sit down after a swim and see the water rather than the side of the pool). Thank you for the inspiration, confidence, and encouragement to pursue a project of this magnitude! It was fully functional after just 3 days (working alone, with the ladder serving as my "helper" for leveling those 16' joists) and, despite inflated lumber prices, cost less than $1k.

I feel the same way. I was telling my wife, if there were high school instructors as people friendly and knowledgeable as "Poorboys Little Homestead" our industry wouldn't be hurting. I am starting my deck this weekend, but only a 8x10.

You are AMAZING!!! It’s a little late in the season but we just got out our pool after having it in storage since 2019 when we moved to our new property. It’s in perfect condition PTL 🙏🏻 and my husband’s favorite pastime is woodworking in his shop. I’ve been searching all over the internet for some deck ideas and when folks say this is the best video online ... believe them, because it is!!! My husband is going to really appreciate all that you put into this! He grew up Amish and they are notorious for their craftsmanship and building farmhouses in a day. He won’t be putting it up until next year in April/May, but already has all the wood and is considering a boardwalk on the opposite side of the pool that will lead to the steps. Fantastic job, and thank you, Sir for sharing this with us.

Thank you so much! My husband and I are building a deck for our pool. Looks exactly like your grandsons pool. We have built decks before but not for a pool. I really like the way you did yours. Going to show this video to my husband. He built a small deck coming off our back porch and he will connect the two decks. I think it will look really nice. We bought our deck pool steps off Facebook market place. Like new condition. Got them last summer after installing the pool. He had to rent a big digger machine because our yard is not flat. He did a real nice job with the retaining wall. Can’t wait to see what the deck looks like. I know it will be nice. I’m disabled with severe arthritis so it’s going to be so much easier for me to get in an out of the pool. It’s going to be perfect for both of us to get exercise. We are both getting up in years and the pool is perfect for both of us. But for severe arthritis especially with the spine involved swimming is the best thing you can do. It relieves pain buy about 50 percent the day after I’ve been in the pool. Long as you don’t over do it. Your deck and steps sure look nice!
