By the pure sound of it, not knowing it was made out of bamboo and from Indonesia, I'd have thought this was a Caribbean instrument.

I love the intersection of local Hollywood history, world music history, composer stories and expert percussion demonstration‘s!

Bamboo... Metal... Seems like a PVC set would complete the sonic trifecta. At the very least, Blue Man would love it.

Actually West Java or Indonesia in general have many kind of bamboo instruments and some of them have PVC variant nowaday. One of them is flute "Suling Bambu" or "Suling Paralon PVC" (PVC version)

It's a really cool instrument!! Thank you so much for the great overview!! ) The traditional bamboo version makes "jungle / primal" sound and metal version has different but wonderful sounding too. At the end of the video I saw the Lujon. Please, can you tell me does a chromatic Lujon exist with 1 or maybe 2 octave range or does it only have 6 sounds? I know, first Lujon was constructed for Henry Mancini. It was for his track which was called "Lujon" and has only 6 tones. Maybe Emil Richards Percussion Collection has chromatic Lujon?)

@@allthepercs Thank you Abby! I hoped it (chromatic Lujon) existed. Unfortunately, it's not. But it's not so bad because we have similar Marimba sound.
