I agree fam that oak turns out great for so many reasons. It's my favorite go to for any building, holds up so well, and its density is better for speaker boxes. I'm guilty of buying a bass car😂

The biggest difference in wood "Quality" comes from the speed that the trees grow, Canada limits logging up north in their "Slow" Growth forests. Russia does not. The slow growth forests grow slow because it's winter 200+days a year, the trees only grow for a few weeks in spring and go dormant again. so you have HUGE 400' tall trees that have 10' trunks and are 800 years old. that all leads to a dense board and minimal voids in the layers, since they can grow Pine, Birch and Oak in a tropical environment they can plant and grow new trees and grow them 365 days a year for 2 years and harvest. then replant the result is a less dense wood that cant be sliced at thin and has more voids. that's why Home Depot Birch is 6ply and "Baltic" birch in 13ply and they are both 3/4" thick

I'm on the lookout for some Russian Baltic Birch myself. Not because I think it's superior, but because I like the look of 13 plys and it's somewhat lightweight. The local stores carry maple and it's nice. Grade B/C. It's just so heavy and 7 plys looks "ehh". I think I know a wood shop that carries it, but it's too freaking hot. I hope I can build my big box in the Fall when the weather is nicer. I'm going for a furniture look. No screws, staples or brads. Smoothed edges, brown stain with clear coat. It should look nice in the back of a Navigator. I might add thick, plate glass windows. It's nicer looking than plastic. I haven't decided on that yet.

I have used and tested it and could tell no difference. Definitely felt it was overpriced, and not handing that cost to a customer who won't get anything extra out of it. I'm not going to lie to my customers, I'd rather save them money because that would make them come back.

There is a diffrence that unfortunately only Bats can hear the diffrence. And with a subwoofer your only reproducing less than 5% of what we are actually listening to. You don't think it's weird that $120,000.00 Focal tower speakers are made from 1.5" MDF ? For people with Bat ears

Baltic birch is becoming too expensive now that it's considered conflict wood 😮. Dont go to home depot. Go to your local lumberyard or cabinet wood supplier. I found a 10 layer birch veneer thats actually .75in thick and was less than $60 for a 4'x8'. Mdf and 6ply at lowes here is $68 for a 4'x8'.😂

Birch is definitely more dense than pine, or maybe I needed a more powerful drill and new bits. Took me a full day to drill holes in it.
