They say Disney gives the MCU a bad name. I say Sony gives Spider-Man a worser one with their live-action one offs no one asked for.

It literally boggles my mind that people seem to give Sony more the benefit of the doubt and write off Marvel Studios without hesitation.

@@JoeTufanoTheMovieGuy When it was never all Marvel Studios's fault from the start. It was Bob Chapek's greedy machinations forcing MS to fork out dozens of mini series to get his streaming revenue in for Disney Plus and the MCU brand paid for it. With Bob Iger reinstated, there are now more online whispers and murmurs of them learning from that way of thinking that hopefully quells the quality drop and hinders the quantity raise. Maybe the only reason some may forgive Sony more is the Spider-verse films which is a completely different department compared to the live action stuff. Partly why the animated Spider films have done better than the one offs. Something even MS themselves could take a page from in all fairness.

Yeah you’re a lot nicer than me on this movie. I hated Madame Web, more than I thought I would. Because the overalls vibe I got was that it felt like no one passionate about it, it felt like a job. Sony didn’t care about making a quality movie, they just thought, “Hey let’s just get a director who’s available right now, the writing team behind Morbius, and get talented actors like Dakota Johnson, Adam Scott, and Sydney Sweeney and waste them, add Pepsi product placement and boom call it a day.” And it achieved the astounding feet of being dull and unintentionally funny with some cringeworthy dialogue and poorly edited action sequences. These movies feels like those early 2000s superhero movies like Halle Berry’s Catwoman, where they got hold on a popular brand/IP and simply not get what made it great to begin with or in this case focus on characters that probably don’t need a solo movie. Honestly with how Dakota Johnson just looks like she could care less about this movie on the press tour and left her agency after the trailer dropped, I don’t blame her after watching the movie and apparently her and Sydney Sweeney thinking this was apart of the MCU. Now people are going to hold this against her too, alongside 50 Shades, when she has shown to be a good actress with Bad Times at the El Royale, Suspiria (2018), etc. With this, Kraven, and Venom 3 coming out this year, for all the talk about superhero fatigue, Sony’s going to make it worse. Let’s hope Deadpool & Wolverine and even Joker: Folie à Deux can make this year salvageable for the genre.

I know I didn’t really get too heated, but over the last few years I’ve preferred to be more measured in my tone as opposed to getting mad like a lot of KZreadrs on here. Seems like I’m both sides of the fence that nobody was really passionate about this project which isn’t going to help Dakota Johnson like you stated (Need to check out “El Royale”). At least the MCU can provide hopefully some relief for the genre and show to people that Sony really needs to either fix some things or just give it up completely.

@@JoeTufanoTheMovieGuy Oh Sony ain't gonna give it up and if they're not, then get someone who knows what they're doing. Or focus on other versions of Spider Man, like Miles Morales (Though they could put him in the MCU) or Jessica Drew's Spider Woman. They're just doing this for money and holding onto the rights when they're clearly out of touch. The only thing they've been getting right is the Spiderverse movies and even those they're barely apart of it, that's more Lord and Miller. And I respect that you kept it level headed in your review. And Bad Times at the El Royale is very good and underrated, from Drew Goddard who worked the Daredevil Netflix series, also did The Cabin in the Woods. She's also good in others films like Peanut Butter Falcon with Shia LaBeouf.

Great review man of this trainwreck of a movie and thankfully for me after I saw this movie last week I saw ff7 advent children today in theaters which was way better then this trainwreck in my opinion.

Another great video. I do plan on seeing Madame Web, though more of I want to have a good laugh, and if it's as bad as others say it is. At this point, I don't see the point of continuing this universe Sony has, aside from the obvious reasons. Venom is the only bright side of this whole series as while they have their flaws, they are fun and entertaining and for the most part, capture the spirit of the Venom character. Not to mention him getting a spin-off actually makes sense as he is a popular enough character tied with Spider-Man. Morbius was fine but nothing special. I do agree a change needs to be made, especially with how they're approaching this franchise. Focus on characters audiences want to see and make sure they have talented writers involved in the projects.

I really don't want Disney getting their hands on the rights to Spider-Man. Mainly because of how good the Spiderverse series are so far. Also Disney owns way too much IP as it is.

Dakota Johnson was in The Social Network briefly; she's the student who hooks up with Justin Timberlake. This movie sucked. I like how nice you were and your editorial is spot on. It felt like nobody tried. I'm somehow nostalgic for Dawn of Justice and The Amazing Spiderman; at least they tried while failing. Let's just give this stuff back to Marvel already. Compare this to Eternals or Love and Thunder and this just crumbles.

Really? I haven't watched that movie in ages so I don't really remember her there... I could do without Dawn of Justice or ASM 1 but in a way they did at least have some credibility behind them. Eternals along with L&T I think are leagues better than this.

Great review and for me it was such a waste of time and this is my breaking point of this SSU (Sony Spider-Man Universe) and am coming to the point of these movies are not that good. SJ Clarkson I know she directed few episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Defender’s series on Netflix, and I know this is her first movie she made and I don’t want to trash on her as director I know the job isn’t easy to do, but I found her directing very bland not much energy or soul in this movie. The acting is pretty much phoned in, Dakota Johnson I do like her as actress and I know she wants to step away from the fifty shades trilogy (I don’t blame her for that) and I know Sony lied to her she’s going to be in the MCU but instead she’s in the Sonyverse and same goes to the cast especially the 3 Spider-Women, I don’t necessarily blame them. Goes to show this universe it’s not working for me or anyone and Sony really needs to make some changes or at very least just give up the Spider-Man rights and give it back to Marvel Studios fully. Speaking of, I know there’s lot of rumours or speculations that Kevin Feige and Tom Rothman (who is the CEO of Sony Pictures are having some butting heads because of what they want for Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man 4, Feige and even Tom Holland himself wants a more grounded street level movie for Spider-Man, but Tom Rothman wants another Multiverse movie like No Way Home and bring back Tobey and Andrew in the movie which is a bad idea, I don’t mind bringing those two guys back, I rather have them back for Secret Wars. But that’s another video or discussion for another time. Yeah this is movie is pretty bad and I have no confidence in Kraven The Hunter which I am now just gonna wait till I watch it online for free!

From now on whenever Sony puts out a movie like this, I’m gonna wait for it to drop on streaming unless someone invites me and pays for all tickets. Yeah, I would save Tobey and Andrew for a team up movie later down the line because it’s too soon to bring them back again, even though it’s only been a couple of years. Shows you that Sony executives aren’t doing it properly when they are that desperate to repeat a certain type of success or just hold onto the rights and make a movie so that way they don’t lose it after the expiration date. At least 20th Century Fox was willing to give up certain characters before they were acquired by the big one!
