About Bass Technique | StudyBass

Музыка

To start off the Basic Bass Technique Lesson Block, I want you to understand our bass technique goals, my approach, and where we're headed with your technique.
Remember, there's not one right way to play the bass. That would be boring. I'm trying to give you a good-sounding starting point from which you can build your own sound. Above all, explore your instrument!

You are such a good teacher! I've been watching bass videos for a long time and I don't think I've ever learned more from anyone else, or more easily. The lack of ego and flashy playing is refreshing. Thank you!

Thank you! I really appreciate this comment. I try to strip away all of the things that annoyed me in lessons, videos and books. Before the internet was a thing, it was hard to find learning material for the bass. We'd buy these 1-hour instructional videotapes for between $30 and $60 each. There were no reviews to read, and they didn't allow Blockbuster to rent them out! You'd get home, pop it in all excited to learn, and it would be almost entirely some dude showing off and not explaining anything useful. Sorry...you opened it. No returns. LOL The time you have to learn is precious, and it's important not to squander it. Keep playing and learning!

studybass thanks! I bought Rocksmith 2014 remastered to learn guitar and then there was an emulated bass mode. I fell in love and realized I was a bassist and not a guitarist. Bought an Ibanez Bass and I have been playing for around 3-4 months and while I have mastered dozens of songs I have no better understanding of the instrument. I know I can play at a decent level from the physical aspects but I want to play with an understanding versus action reaction the game creates. I knew that Rocksmith would be limited but it did what I wanted which was playing for at least an hour a day and got me very familiar with the feeling of playing and development of my tone. I will check out the website soon.

That's not an uncommon start. One of the best things to do is go find some people to play with as soon as possible. You're ready on day 1 of having a bass. You will really start to understand the instrument, and you learn at least twice as fast.

Just signed up. It's so easy to forget some simple things that makes my sound bad on my basses. Discovered this channel and it's made me rethink my technique as well as style, finger positioning and type of set up. Love the zon bass

Great! Thank you. Yes, it's all of those little things that add up over time. When they become a reflex, the music really starts coming out. Keep at it!

Got my first bass today, a Yamaha TRBX174. I'm ready to start the journey. I spent most of day 1 just noodling around. I have no previous musical experience so I just wanted to get the feel of the instrument. Your site is going to be a God send for me while I learn and I thank you for providing this resource.

That's great--welcome! Stay the course. The beginning can feel impossible, but I haven't seen anyone not be able to do it when they put in consistent, daily practice. Let me know how you're progressing.

I recommend using www.studybass.com. What's on KZread is only a small fraction of the lessons and step-by-step system I put together. I do teach online and you can contact me through StudyBass about it, but be warned my waiting list is extremely long. Keep learning!

I played in a band whose bass player did not know how to mute. Sounded like a chimp banging on garbage cans. I quit.
