ABI CARTER sings Evanescence?! Watch me analyse her stunning Idol Top 7 performance!

Музыка

We know and love Abi behind the piano, doing beautifully emotional, stunning vocal performances. Now she comes out with Luke's choice for her, being "Bring me to life" by Evanescence - something totally different to what she's used to doing.
And... she NAILED it! Oh my gosh, it really was just a stunning performance! Vocally, her look/styling, the key, stage craft... everything was just SO good!

She is getting better and better with each performance. My vote has been for Abi from day 1! Thank you for your analysis! Looking forward to what your new channel has to offer!

I concur with everything you've said. And, of course, this was only Abi's THIRD attempt at ANY kind of physicality on stage (in her entire life!) -- if you include her "walk" from her keyboard to center stage during her Platinum trio performance of "California Dreamin'" (with Julia and Odell, opening the season) and her stroll onto the catwalk singing Coldplay's "Clocks", the conclusion of which still gives me chills. With Idol, Abi has produced a body of work that constitutes a veritable concert in itself, with truly superlative renditions of "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Sir Elton John. Abi's version of "Hello" by Adele was a masterpiece. HER interpretations are what I contemplate now -- not those of the original artists -- a testament to her world-class talent and ability to vocalize HER music, communicating through her many instruments. She has gotten better at singing and performing, too, even during the course of this season. (Notice she's not screeching as much? And maybe even enunciating better?) I LOVED her audition. It was PERFECTON! But THIS performance -- of "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence -- simply BLEW ME AWAY! I was gasping, guffawing and clapping my hands, smiling from ear to ear while watching it, mesmerized by Abi's nascent (heretofore unseen and unheard) artistry. Of course, after the show, I told her she should give donuts to the crew -- the musicians, lighting designers, special effects technicians, choreographers, costume and makeup artists -- for making her LOOK SO FANTASTIC! And the judges' reactions were spot on, too. Abi DID kick down all four walls of ANY box ANY of us had placed her in! She can do it all! Beauty, poise, professionalism, and pure talent! Her demeanor, even when she's NOT singing, is every bit as attractive and inspiring as when she is. She has ALWAYS been a superb communicator -- with adult-like reasoning, poise, outspokenness, and good humor. Not to detract from Joe Biden's appraisal of his son, Hunter, Abi Carter IS the most intelligent person *I* have ever known. (She could talk circles around me when she was three!) She has ALL the qualities of a leader. I LOVE how she has supported, encouraged, and even evidently enjoyed singing with the other contestants, rocking to THEIR tunes and making THEM shine, as well. I understand she and Julia became best friends during their tenure as roommates, only recently separating with Julia's departure from the show. Whether Abi can overcome AI's penchant for selecting country western singers remains to be seen, but, in my mind, she's already a GREAT American Idol. (Of course, as her dad, I'm biased.)

@@RobertJohnson-bj5lk At her first audition Abi stated she is the eldest of 7 kids with a single mom who practically raised those kids by herself. So I don't know how much contact her dad has with the family and Abi. Abi's brothers, sisters and mom have featured on American Idol clips often and during the live shows and there is no paternal figure in those clips. Judging by the comments made by the so called Mr. Carter on platforms like this he is somewhat cut off from the family. I don't know I'm only guessing here but it is a guess made based on the information avaialble so it's an educated guess.

Abi's voice can do so much -- Power, Nuance, the Power of Nuance, and Nuanced Power (those ARE 4 different things). Over the course of American Idol 2024, her stage presence has grown. She's always looked reasonably comfortable on stage and has made progress in projecting varying aspects of herself -- from tender to forceful. This was her first performance which demanded that she put EVERYTHING together in a single song -- all 4 power/nuance gears from her voice PLUS grab the audience by the heart with one hand and grab the audience by the throat with the other. She delivered masterfully.

Oh, now I can see that I am now watching your new channel :))) New channel but the same, good stuff. Good luck with this one! In terms of the song choice - I have never ever liked this specific song and this has not changed after Abi's performance. Yet I have to say that her version is not as "heavy" as the original so for me she did well. Personally I think than this song leaves very little space for sing it very much differently from the original due to its very emotional nature. Every singer has to start like very softly and then add more and more intensity while it is progressing. So, how different from the original one can sing softly or scream?
