Whisky.com reviews the Aberlour Double Sherry Cask Finish 18 Years. The Aberlour Double Sherry Cask matured for a total of 18 years. Initially, American and European oak casks were used for storage. The single malt was finished in Pedro Ximenéz and Oloroso sherry casks, which make the end result wonderfully mild and balanced, with fruity nuances.

Unfortunately the 18-year-old Aberlour is only offered as 50cl bottles in many contries, which does not boat well in terms of representing good value for money. Love a good Aberlour though!

I see many whiskies matured in matuselem and other sherry casks. Can you please make a video explaining different types of sherry casks. Also, I have a BIG question in my mind : Sherry isn't as popular as whiskey is, so where does the sherry go?

If you think that they produce sherry, mature, bottle sherry and after cask send to Scotland, thats bit a not true. Used to be like that, but times changed. Now they make for big demend a "sherry seasoned cask". Macallan plays fair play and says "matured in sherry seasoned cask". This cask is more valuable than liquid inside, so business is transformed for making this kind of cask not sherry. Because maturing this kind of wine and virgin oak, this "sherry liquid" is not drinkable, but you can still make a vinegar, balsamic, wine vinegar..., thats why, companies who make sherry wine cask are also larrge producers of vinegars. To be honest, old sherry cask - bodegas, are very valuable and can be used for many decades of years, so selling them for whisky making are more rare, but you can find for example Michel Couvreur whiskies which are exactly matured in old bodegas. Cheers!

As per master blender and distiller Richard Paterson, copita nosing glass is probably the best for tasting.

Reidel makes one. You might not like it - When I first heard about Reidel glasses with specific shapes for specific wines, I scoffed. Then my girlfriend (now wife) bought me the Reidel scotch-tasking glass. I was quite surprised to observe that it made a huge difference in the way the scotch tasted - by depositing the scotch first on a certain area of the tongue, it changes the whole experience. Unfortunately, at least for me, I did NOT LIKE that change for whisky. You might like it very much. But now, knowing that the shape of the glass does indeed have a big effect, we bought wine glasses for bordeaux and others for burgundy and still others for reisling and chardonnay, and have been very happy with them.
