About Kirby:
Kirby Pábalan-Táyag Aráullo is a renowned Filipino culture bearer and currently the National Coordinator for Culture and Heritage for NAFCON (National Alliance for Filipino Concerns). He is a Dátû and Lakan by blood, a direct descendant of the last Paramount Kings of Luzon (of both Lakandúlâ of Tondo and Rája Matandá of Maynílâ, who are also of the Sultans of Sulu and Brunei, and of the ancient Mahārājas of the Majapahit Empire). Dátû Kirby's upbringing exposed him to the contradicting worlds of traditional politics and grassroots activism.
Kirby is the co-founder and former Director of Operations for the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies at the University of California, Davis, and has been teaching Filipino people’s history and writing in indigenous Philippine scripts (Baybayin & Kulitan) for over a decade. An alumnus of UC Davis, Kirby has also started his graduate studies in the field of history at Harvard University, and on International Human Rights Law at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium. He is a visiting professor at various colleges in the Philippines and a research fellow with Sínúpan Singsing, a publicly-funded institute for indigenous advocacy and the study of Kapampángan language, history, and culture.
Dátû Kirby is well-rooted in his culture and passionate about his heritage; he strives to decolonize Philippine history and democratize Ethnic Studies through knowledge and play.

So much to absorb on this one. First of all, yes to the videos about the ties between Manila and Tondo; and yes to videos about encounters of Spanish fleets with sultans and datus. Would love to hear more about the tactical capabilities of the Prince’s fleet if that’s information that is available.

Lots of things I actually didn't have a chance to learn at school in my younger years. I hope you can also make a video about our ancestors here in Mindanao, the royals and kingdoms and so on. Also, a series of videos perhaps about the Philippine mythology - gods, goddesses, creatures and stories - featuring not only in Luzon, but also in Visayas and Mindanao. Perhaps its relationship/similarities too to other Southeast Asian countries. Thank you so much for making this channel! More power!

Hi, salamat! :) The descendants of Rája Matandá, Lakandúlâ, and Rája Sulayman, have actually been well documented since the late 1500s. Many Kapampangan elders, scholars, and culture bearers, especially among the older clans, still know who's who and who descended from whom. These are also known through oral traditions combined and balanced with archival documents (both by the state and the church), academic research, and other written accounts. Throughout the colonial period, many branches of the royal family of Luzon kept records of our genealogies, both written and oral. Many of these family trees were also intricately carved into hard wood such as the doors of the Bale Matua (old houses). These records were kept safe and verified by the clans, the church, and the colonial government. These same families were the Principalia class (local elite/recognized legitimate nobility) and the "Super Principalia" (an academic term used to refer to the the direct descendants of Rája Matandá, Lakandúlâ, and Rája Sulayman) during the colonial period, and many of them remained among the influential families of Central Luzon today, not just in politics but also socially and culturally. The descendants of Rája Matandá, Lakandúlâ, and Rája Sulayman, retained certain privileges under Spain, but of course the Spaniards were very strict on recognizing such privileges, hence the necessity of official record keeping through the centuries.

I think there's more than that with the story. Sultan Bolkiah reigned 1485 to 1524. He married a Sulu princess (see wikipedia and SE Asia history books), thus his children were all tied up with the Sulu royal family. Rajah Matanda on the otherhand was named Sulayman II because of his parent Sulayman I or Rajah Salalila was the only son of Dayang Kaylangitan Queen of Namayan and Tondo who was married to Rajah Lontok and it was Lontok who was the son of the Brunei Sultan Ahmad who reigned in 1402 and the next heir apparent. Sultan Ahmad and Sultan Bolkiah were not related because When Sultan Ahmad died in 1425, the throne passed to a next muslim noble who was Sharif Ali (grandfather of Bolkiah) from another family. It is suspected that the Bruneians are not in favor of Lontok taking up the throne, who left his country on his own volition to marry a pagan queen of Tondo. Brunei is already an Islamic kingdom and if Lontok pursue his marriage to Kaylangitan, he would give up his crown. To summarize, The Lines of our Rajahs from Lontok down to Magat Salamat are not DIRECT DESCENDANTS of Bolkiah, but rather, the Lines of Rajah Lontok is the Progenitor of the Sultanate of Brunei since his father was the 2nd Sultan Ahmad of Brunei, thus, all sons of Lontok from him to Sulaymans I, II, III, to Magat Salamat are all CLAIMANTS to the throne of Brunei. So, the story of cousins claiming the Rajahnate of Manila is a made up story because in 1521 when the Spanish came, the reigning Sultan in Brunei is Bolkiah and in Manila, it was Matanda and they werent related by blood. It is wiser to say that Matanda have claims to the Brunei Throne in line of his great grandfather Ahmad and may have attacked Brunei and Sulu on the contrary with the story on the video. PS. It is also in the knowledge of our Historians that Salalila or Rajah Sulayman I, converted to Islam for him and his descendants TO CLAIM THE BRUNEI THRONE because it is the only legitimate way and the only reason why Manila converted from Paganism (worship of Anito) to Islam. You failed in history class Mr. Kirby, you did not do your homework and you made up another invented history of your own liking. You could have wrote an adventure Telenovela or fantasy comics because that's what you're good at "inventing stories" but you aint gonna fool everyone with your "History"

Hala nakakalito na hahaha 🤣 sa pagkakaalam ko Si Sultan Shariff ali ( 3rd sultan of brunei ) sya Ang first sultan w no genealogical relation sa mga previous sultan. Arab sya at isang scholar. Nung namatay si Sultan ahmad, He was selected Kasi madami sya Alam sa islam at Son in law sya.

I am confused. I know from the claims of the Tallanos from their genealogy that Lakandula was the nephew of Rajah Sulayman, the younger brother of Lapu2. Your story conflicts with that of the Tallanos.
