need to know more about this guy, my dad's father had multiple families, I know for sure one in Mexico, and also another in Texas (my grandmother lived there), never met him cause he passed before I was born. always wanted to know more. could be coincidence but who knows
I can't help but think that the 4 cops were never going to kill him. They were tasked to scare the shit out of this guy and intimidate him to never write about cartel stuff again
I'm pretty sure if they wanted to clip him they just would have and not talked to him a bunch sounds more like they just wanted to intimidate him

My guess is the people that wanted to find this guy in the interview is either dead, locked up, or forgotten about.
@quaderex3420
Жыл бұрын
@@joewynn2445 Juarez Cartel is basically dead right now. Also this happened probably like 20 years ago and the guy is pretty popular journalist. Killing him is bad PR and cartels need support or at least indifference of local population and government officials to work. This attempt also wasn't made by higher ups but some mid to low level people that got pissed off about his article so it's not like they would think about it for a long time, they have other things to worry about and investing a lot of time and resources to hunt down some journalist for vengeance is simply too risky and not worth it. Also hitting someone in the US is way harder and expensive for the cartels and attracts way more attention from way more dangerous organisation - the US government. Cartels usually just smuggle drugs over the border and sell it wholesale to US-based gangs, they don't have permanent presence and turf like in movies. So to kill him after he escaped to El Paso they would need to find him, get a hitman, get him over the border, pay him a lot for the hit and the risk of getting caught, get permission from bosses (who don't give a fuck about your personal vendetta on a guy who described your sex life in a newspaper) and then get the killer back into Mexico as he could snitch to avoid death penalty or life sentence.

You obviously missed the part where he left his wallet and keys with the cops. He’s on foot so if he tried to run they’d just get in the car and look for him. Then they’d kill him. He paid them so they can let him go and give him a 10 minute head start before they hunted for him again.
I cant ever watch this podcast anymore because 90% of the comments are the experts apparently and imply that every guest is lying about the stories they tell. Kind of a buzzkill
