The motor served for years at the University of Bergen (Belgium) as a power group for conducting experiments. I love these old engines they have character and are fixable, they lasted and were reliable, I have had modern generators but none of them have been has reliable as an old pom pom engine that I own from the 1930s,

This is one real nice example of a engine for sure. NICE

The (unfortunately no longer produced) Voith Maxima locomotives had 12- and 16-cylinder ABC engines with mechanical injection. They were chosen as they were the only off-the-shelf engines they could find that would work within the space constraints and have the desired performance.

Amazing how little oil there is on the cam & lifters, is that normal for one of these? & what is the inactive white rocker on the 4th lobe for?

Guessing they retro modded on some timing sensors there. Could be Hall Effect could be inductive. Could even be pneumatic watching for back pressure when the lobe swung by. Heh - I'm with you lets make them spray oil and then read hyd back pressure when the lobe swings by !

The white rocker possible is the starting air valve rocker, which when the engineer pull the starting lever, compressed air then feeding in the start mechanism and this lever then contact the starting cam, allowed compressed air injected into cylinder followed injection sequence, after flywheel gain momentum, then compression created heat and fuel is injected, then engine starts. After engine started compressed air is cutoff and the white rocker moved away from starting cam and in standby until another starting.

Is this in a museum ? Once a generating set, but now only a motor that drives.... nothing...

Sounds like it doesn't pump Oil enough.

Fraaie motor, hoeveel toeren draait deze stationair? Supercharged, betekent dit met een mechanisch aangedreven blower in plaats van een turbo? Zijn deze motoren ook ooit voor railtractie ingezet geweest? Grappig om Gent in het Frans geschreven te zien staan, een kleine herinnering aan de verandering die België doorgemaakt heeft.

Deze heefd een gewone turbo door de uitlaat gassen aangedreven,,ik heb zelf met verschillende ABC motoren gedraaid een geweldige motor allemaal,,en ja ook voor rail gebruikt de latere v motoren ,,veel ABC motoren staan nog in oud België,s Congo,,

Stationair 200 toeren vollaan 600 toeren per minuut. Is een van de eerste turbomotoren die ABC gebouwd heeft, eerste turbomotor was exact dezelfde in 1950 om de fabriek te voorzien van elektriciteit.

Soon these will run on diethyl ether. It will be the only diesel substitute fuel available and will cost no more than diesel today and will be produced by molten salt small modular thorium reactors. These old ancient motors will run until the end of an era and I see no generator attached to this output.
