The condiment one reminded me how in 4th grade when I got straight As I got a free meal at Fudpucker's I don't know where I'd heard the word I _actually_ said before but what I do know is that I had also never heard of _marinara_ sauce, so imagine the utter shock when young 9/10 year old me asked for *marijuana sauce* I haven't lived it down since. I'm 25 now.

@@eartheclipse8 Past tense verbs in french use an auxiliary verb, which is usually etre (to be) or occasionally avoir (to have). Which auxiliary verb you use depends on what the other verb is. I think the format part comes from getting the wrong auxiliary verb, or not including it entirely.

The fact that so many people thought names were short for other, non existent names is giving me life. I intentionally call people made up versions of their names, and “Staniel” and “Billiam” have definitely been on my list! As is “Craigory,” and “Drewsoph.” Needless to say I was really disappointed to learn that the Ross I work with is actually named Rosston, because that’s absolutely the name I would have called him if it wasn’t his name. 🤣 I’ve changed that one to “Rosstopher.”

Dunno why he did that, being passively funny means you don't have to try so hard to do it on purpose. I know of a guy who I still think is one of the dumbest people I've interacted with who decided it would be a good idea to put on some metal cap he welded together and have his buddy shoot him in the head with a pellet gun. The sound reverberating inside his makeshift special needs helmet ended up damaging his ears. He then goes home crying to his WIFE about it like he's a child who scraped his knee on the sidewalk, and she just laughed and helped as best she could. According to him, she's still with him because she finds him endearing and funny.

Not an abbreviation, but when I was a kid i thought the word "horrific" meant the same as "terrific" so when somebody told me about something good happening to them i would say "how horrific!" 💀

I used to think "Seal" was short for "Sea Lion" and that they were the same thing. Not that embarrassing on paper, they're pretty similar animals if you don't know any better, but thinking of how confident young me was telling that fact to all of my family as if I had just had just worked out the meaning of life or something is definitely embarrassing in hindsight.

The sit down comedy one actually makes a lot of sense-

Technically “Rex” isn’t so much an abbreviation as the Latin word for “King.” The name “tyrannosaurus Rex” literally translates as “tyrant lizard king.”

I know a father-son duo by the names of Bob and Rob. I had a particular misconception corrected when I was about ten and walked up to the father and said "Hi, Bobert." We still laugh about that. I'm in my twenties now.

I noticed a few of these weren't only acronyms but were also mispronounciations of the words themselves. This brought back the memory that - even till this day - I can't pronounce variety properly. I pronounce it Va-Rarity, like the My little Pony character. I'd imagine there are some even worse ones than that out there.

I used to pronounce it "very etty" lol, I knew the word but hadn't seen it spelled so I got confused

Once in a sociology class I wanted to note down the word "analysis" next to a paragraph, but was too lazy to write it out, so I wrote out "ANAL" in massive letters. My teacher was confused to say the least.

3:40 I’m glad I’m not the only one 😭 As a kid I genuinely thought Islam was a country. I remember learning about it at school when I was like 8 and I was just sat there wondering why the laws seemed so disconnected from the usual type of laws a country might have and thinking what might have led to such laws being passed (we were learning about like different rules in Islam). No one thought to correct me until I was like 11 and started a sentence with ‘If I lived in Islam…” EVERYONE WAS SO CONFUSED 💀
