    @@38wonderfullife In this case, probably not as much as you would think. Björn J:son Lindh was part of the string and horn arrangements. www.discogs.com/ABBA-ABBA/release/8429063 Then it is also known that Anders Eljas have been involved in some arrangements (probably later albums) when it comes to notation for classical instruments and, I don't remember clearly, maybe also the instrumentation/settings in the same process (translating Bennys compositions to whole orchestra settings where 1 sound from Bennys mind may be shared by whole or parts of sections in an orchestra). The whole Abba "factory" behind the Abba sounds consisted a LOT more than just Benny Andersson being the genius that he actually was. The engineer Micke B Tretow, an important manager in Stickan Andersson the first few year (Who also contributed to a lot of lyrics the first years), some brilliant top class musicians like Janne Schaffer, Ola Brunkert, Mike Watson, Roger Palm to name a few. Some classically trained musicians like Björn J:son Lindh and Anders Eljas leading (probably tutoring/teaching) Benny more into composing classical tracks and musicals (later making him and Björn set up The musical Chess, to name a few "After Abba projects"). Oh and let's not forget some backing singers like Tomas Ledin and Clas "Klabbe" Af Geijerstam who, I think, was a technician when they toured. Both who was are became great artists of their own. When you bring the best of the best from all different areas and then at the centre have the geniuses of Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus plus the angel voices of Agneta and Frida that, by the way, also gave a lot of feedback and input in the recording sessions that influenced how the songs finally appeared on the singles and albums, then and only then you get something that is as magnificent as the sound and songs of ABBA!

    By creating this (what should I say? Masterpiece? Magnum Opus? Work-of-Art?) musical piece, Mr Anderson has proved himself that he can easily claim a dominant position in the league of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Chopin. A big salute to two Swedish melody geniuses - Bjorn Ulveaus & Benny Anderson !!!

    Abba, one the most powerful groups in history giving us timeless classics such sos, mamma mia, fernando and host of other high energy songs. Waterloo was their career launching song which was recognized at a music singing competetion. When they sang it in swiss, they lost. But a year later, sung it in english and took top spot. Since then, their career skyrocketed to give Abba the most recognition than any other group in history, even today. Back then getting an interview was impossible.

  • @annabackman3028

    @annabackman3028

    Swiss?? You mean Swedish? I don't know what you mean by "they lost". 'Waterloo' (1974) where sung in Swedish, as the the rules were then, in the Swedish competition (February 9), and a while later they sung it IN SWEDISH in the European Song Contest (April 6) in Brighton, UK, and WON. It's a custom that the winners perform their song a second time, which of course also ABBA did, however they made a coup, and sang it in English. A cunning move, the rest is history! All four of them were active music artists before they met and became ABBA. Their first album, 'Ring Ring', was released under the name of 'Björn, Benny, Agnetha och Anni-Frid', however they had already released a couple of singles before that. On the international issue of 'Ring Ring' is a song 'She's My Kind of Girl' (replacing 'Ring Ring' with Swedish lyrics), that was released on single 1969 in Sweden. They competed in the Swedish song contest for ESC with 'Ring Ring' 1973, in Sweden ended on third place, hence they did not go to the ESC that year. The English version of the song (and album) was promoted outside of Sweden, and made it fairly well, but didn't hit.

    Gran bel Progressive pop-rock ,gran bello strumentale !!!!!!! Devo ammettere che la band svedese era assai versatile passava da componimenti prog pop alla dance melodica di DANCING QUEEN ad altri piacevoli brani come FERNANDO e anche a qualcuno più allegro e scanzonato come MAMMA MIA ma facendo sempre della musica perlomeno gradevole mai di cattivo gusto!!!! E questo agli ABBA dobbiamo sinceramente riconoscerglielo!!!!!!

    This is like a chase scene score from a great 70's comedy. I picture Dudley Moore.
