Best studio recording of all time? I don't know about that. It's a nice little bubblegum song. Fun to listen to. Catchy. It was extremely popular at the time. I like it. But listening to it for the first time again after many years, it doesn't hold up for me like some other classic songs do.

Yes, when I lived in The UK, I've seen it first hand, when this song came on, they we're like Sardines on the dancefloor, no room to swing a cat. I know they were colossally popular everywhere but i don't think more so than in The UK , they are so Iconic there that they are part of British Culture.

Have you ever heard of Mamma Mia - the musical AND Mamma Mia the Movie - 1 and 2??? All based on all Abba´s great songs! And Dancing Queen has as far as I know been used in many movies! Furthermore - The intro and synth-theme of Abba´s hit Gimme, Gimme, Gimme - A Man after Midnight - has been used by Madonna on her smash hit Hung Up! And the bass rythm of Abba´s hit The Name of the Game was used by The Fugees song Rumble in the Jungle. These two samples are the only ones that Abba have allowed to be used! Abba was a fantastic group in the seventies og beginning of the eighties - selling about 400 mio records worldwide - mostly in Europe, Australia, Japan and South america. In the US their succes was more average - allthough they made it to no. 1 on Billboard hot 100 with -- Dancing Queen!

They're right up their with the very best. Incredible harmony and vocals and backed up with brilliant lyrics and musicianship. So many great songs, it's ridiculous.

Love this. I was the same age as the Dancing Queen and loved to dance. I was a wallflower until asked to dance and then never got off the dancefloor. This brings back some of the best times of my life. In the movie Mama Mia, a movie based on their songs.

It's easy to dismiss Pop music as a throwaway commodity - but when it's crafted as brilliantly as this - arrangement, lyrics, harmonies & performance - then you are listening to something very, very, special that stands the test of time. Magical!

ABBA is from Sweden. You can pick nearly any song they ever did and it'll be a great song. Tremendous songwriters, arrangers, players and singers. ABBA is the total package.

ABBA is awesome. They are finally getting the respect they deserve. When I was younger I sure as hell never gave them any respect. Listen to "The Name of the Game".. thats my favorite

The Name of the Game is great. I loved ABBA when I was a kid, but I hated that song. When I listened to it again as an adult, I really liked it. :p

The song essentially speaks about a disco-dance setting where everyone is immersed in their own dances. ‘Jive’ is a form of dance originated in United States from the African Americans in the early 1930s. The singer is complimenting the dances that are unfolding before them. In the music video ABBA is performing “Dancing Queen” infront of a crowd of people who are dancing the night away. The singers give an ado to the dancing queen on the floor, who is young and beautiful and having the time of her life-dancing to the music. She is engrossed in her dance, but the whole dance floor has eyes on her. Everyone is digging the girl’s dance. VERSE 1 Friday night and the lights are low Looking out for the place to go Where they play the right music, getting in the swing You come in to look for a king

I wish they had bands like ABBA...today!... ABBA NEVER!.. gets old...Meanwhile...I can't think of a SINGLE SONG today...that's as good as that one.

A fun fact...all the members of ABBA (who were Swedish, except AnniFrid (or Frida) who was Norwegian-born) first performed this song live at a gala for the young King Carl XVI Gustaf and his bride to be, Silvia the night before their wedding in 1976. Carl XVI Gustaf was then in his late 20's, and Silvia was in her early 30's...both are still alive, and their daughter, Victoria will be the next Queen of Sweden. The video of that performance is on KZread (Royal Swedish Opera, 1976). And this song has been in many movies...most recently was 'Mamma Mia' and 'Mamma Mia:Here We Go Again'. Mamma Mia, was a stage musical turned movie musical that used a lot of ABBA's songs to tell a story about a young bride trying to find her father among three possible men her single mom knew back in the day. In the movie, the song is sung by Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, and Julie Walters...along with the entire female population of a small Greek island where the story takes place. It's a fun scene if you want to watch (on your own).

That clip always pisses me off. Why? Because ABBA are performing one of the greatest songs ever written, but they're dressed up in 18th century royal gear and look ridiculous, so nobody takes them seriously. You can even see "proper" musicians sniggering at them in the background. :(

I remember the first song ABBA’s I heard called “Waterloo” I was around 9 yrs old. My best friend at the time and I would have hair brushes and sing and dance along to their songs. Some of the best production ever. They released a compilation CD set that had them improvising in the studio that was excellent. Yeah they never toured the US but the made a movie of their Australian tour that was pretty good.

I was always a "Death Before Disco" guy - but there was always a special place in my heart for ABBA

This song is listed in Rollings Stones´magazine "500 greatest songs ever"- not that I really care about their listings- but his song´s been complimented by the music industry for being perfectly engineered: from the music production, the girls' vocals, the production and more. It´s not just a happy song or a disco song. ABBA is second to none. They invented pop music. They were a pop band btw, not a disco band. The same thing happened to "Blondie" with "Heart of glass"- they were a rock band but since they had a disco hit people labeled them that way. Heart of glass another genius song, btw.

"Invented pop music". No they did not. Popular music has been around for a lot longer than ABBA. Music popularity has been charted since 1940. And the "Hot 100" since 1958. "Second to none" not really. They're number 16 all-time in album sales behind The Rolling Stones. But I bet they are Number one in Disco, they sold more than the Bee Gees. And they're ahead of Sinatra and U2, but below Madonna.

Pop music was around long before I ever you must be about 12 years old to think that pop music was around since the fifties I'm pretty sure this is what most people will tell you they just came around at the right time and like I said the song was played on rotation on every station we used to switch channels like channel surfing every station you hit somebody was playing Dancing Queen and like the person said it's in the movie and Broadway show Mamma Mia remember Queen oh Mama Mia Mama Mia don't know what that means but the guy in the pizza parlor by me used to ya Mamma Mia so he didn't curse in front of his wife he could say that I don't know what it means h a phrase you used to hear a lot in the pizza parlor I'm kidding a bit just having fun but it's true

Well, I'm Swedish, so I'm heavily biased on this. But while I can't decide whether it's the greatest pop song ever written or not, it's certainly one of the few songs that are good enough to compete for that title. And....shock, horror! I actually think it's better than anything The Beatles ever wrote.

Right, I like the Beatles but I find myself skipping to a lot of songs when I listen to them. I think I´ve only skipped 2 or 3 with ABBA - like that king kong song, XD. And yes, I mean "invented" as in.. they were the best. What´s happening to people nowadays with all that sensitivity? And apparently, don´t know what figurative speech is.

Tnx so much for your reaction! I remember hearing this song for the first time in 1976, I was 11 yrs old at the time. I instantly fell in love with it. ABBA is pure quality and craftmanship, they have put a lot of work in all the music they recorded. And it paid off, they sold at least 350 million records. And counting! In 2010 ABBA were inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

ABBA is about as perfect as pop has ever been or ever will be.

Beatles 60s, Wings 70s / Abba 70s, Queen 80s. That song alone here is a masterpiece. So catchy, timeless and uplifting!

Sweden. Currently, ABBA is in the top 20 biggest selling pop artists worldwide (used to be in the top 5-10 going into the 80s).

All 4 members of ABBA are still living they are the only group from 60s 70s 80s to have all their members living. They reuniting after 36 years with 2 new songs releasing next year sometime.

You could try the same argument with Black Sabbath since Dio is dead, but it's likewise laughable because Ozzy, not Dio, is the definitive face of the band... to the point that most Sabbath fans refer to the Dio era as Heaven and Hell instead of a continuation of Sabbath.

This song was in several movies. "Muriel's Wedding", "Summer of Sam", "Dick", "Miss Congeniality" and "Man of the House". It was probably also in several commercials.

An entire Broadway production and movie was made from ABBAs music. It's called Mamma Mia. I took my wife to see the off Broadway production. They now have a part two, which she bought the DVD on it's first day of release. But that may be where you heard the song. It's a great show so if you haven't seen it than I highly recommend it to you.

Their voices blend so well together!

New subscriber, 77-years-old, and I lived the age of the reactions I've seen you do, but I'm not sure how you react to performers of a more modern age. There is a singer named Dimash Kudaibergen, who happens to be the greatest pop singer I have ever heard. You might check out some of his performances in the Chinese competition "I Am a Singer - 2017". He has become an international sensation! My favorite songs are "Late Autumn", "S.O.S." - A Soul's Plea for Help", "Adagio" and "Confessa + Diva Dance". I think you will not believe his vocal range and emotional delivery. MacPro8CoreMan in the 70’s as a a Swedish American, i was excited to have a Swedish group on the stage. It was the Rock n Roll era and most ppl my age didnt take to the Disco scene. But in the 90’s there was a “poof”. and boy was it cool to listen to ABBA. I cant wait to see my grandkids 3,5,7 yo’s in a month so we can have a dance party to Dancing Queen. Thanks for the memory.

Had ABBA toured USA for each of their album they would've started a frenzy that the beatles wouldnt even started. ABBA was a big hit in Europe a d Australia where they sold more records than the beatles in those places.

Oh - this song brings me back to my youth! My friend and I fought because both of us wanted to be Agnetha (the blond one) when we stood there with a hairbrush in the hand pretending it to be a microphone! In my opinion, Benny Anderson (the piano guy) is one of the greatest composers in our time. He has written much more than songs for Abba. Melodic, sweet music. Love it.

Makes you feel good! Free! When it comes on the radio, I just turn up the volume and sing along!! The movie "Muriel's Wedding"...ABBA is a key part of it...also Mama Mia....

ABBA was a huge international group. They didn't tour the US much so didn't get the recognition they should have here. Their music was put to a hit Broadway musical called Mama Mia (the name of one of their songs) and made into a movie with Meryl Streep and now a sequel. They are considered icpnic around the world. They won the Eurovision contest in the early 1970's with a song called Waterloo.

Most American DJ´s refuced to play ABBA on the radio.They where not consider cool enough

You won't believe how hearing this song on the dance floor felt at first time round..you were literally that 'girl of seventeen and the song was about you'..BRILLIANT! You never grow out of this song.

She released a new album a few years ago.

They are very definitely Swedish, however some confusion might exist because their early hits were biggest in Japan, Germany, and especially Australia. In Australia Molly Meldrum made music videos of ABBA for his television show Countdown, much as he had done with the famous truck gig for AC/DC, and these music videos played a large role in spreading the popularity of ABBA internationally. Molly promoted the band constantly building popularity in the country to a frenzy. In the 1970’s in Australia ABBA was outselling the Beatles and that success was repeated around the globe. Dancing Queen has featured in five movies including Momma Mia (2018) and the hit Australian Movie of 1994, Muriel’s Wedding.

And I have seen many interviews with Benny and/or Bjorn where they credit Australia for helping make them the success they were/are. As an Aussie that loved ABBA back then and brought their records that makes me feel proud.

Greetings from Australia 🐨😊👍 I've been an ABBA fan since 1976, and I love seeing the new generations discovering ABBA (makes me sound old ...lol). I'm glad you've enjoyed the ABBA you've done your reactions to, and I hope you get a chance to enjoy more of their music. Having toured in their previous individualmusical endeavours during the 60s before ABBA, when they were ABBA, they were more focussed on being a studio-band than touring (they only did 3 major tours between 1972 and 1982), and thus had the time to polish their production efforts (8 original studio-albums and 1 studio-album of some of their songs in Spanish; Benny & Björn wrote everything ABBA performed - bar one medley of songs for a charity in 1975; plus they had a few others contribute to some of their the writings, like their manager, Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody [English version of 'Ring Ring'], and their own Agnetha for one song - all produced by Benny & Björn, and sung mainly by Frida & Agnetha) and what you will discover is that ABBA covered so many musical genres; not just 'pop' per se, and not just disco as used to be assumed by some in the 1970s (in fact, they actually didn't do a lot of disco at all; although most of their songs are danceable), but rock, gospel-style, vaudeville, musical-style, emo/goth, instrumental, country and western, funk, schlager ...seemingly every genre of music (...except, for example: madrigal ...lol). (P.S. You've got the pronuciation of ABBA correct. Also, ABBA are Swedish [you may know that by now ...lol] although the lovely Frida [the brunette in this clip] was born in Norway, and had a German father. By the way, I love your reaction to the 'Take A Chance On Me' winks ...great fun ...lol. and finally, there are at least two movies that you may have heard this from: apart from 'Mamma Mia' [starring Meryl Streep], there's an Australian comedy-drama movie that came out in the mid-90s called 'Muriel's Wedding' that had global success [and if you haven't had a chance to see it, I'd recommend it; it stars Toni Collette as Muriel].). This song reminds me of my older sister Mary. Back in the Disco era, she was 17 yrs old & went wild in the Disco clubs with her then boyfriend later turned husband. She was a dancing queen for years! Love her so!!!

Ha ha- you made me laugh when you said... That gal flipping her hair around was like a head & shoulders commercial...Looking back now- it does seem like that... The girls with their flippy 70's hair... I grew up in the Big haired 80's, but this music I grew up listening to, having been born the decade before. I was in my teens when they were really popular. I liked their sounds but wasn’t real excited about them. Now I’m 60 & rediscovering them. Their music takes me back. Good memories.

This was one of the "second tier" disco songs to take over radio. (First tier being KC and the Sunshine Band and one-hit wonders like Rock The Boat). 1976! I was there. Fun fact: the kids in the video dancing are ABBA's own children and their friends.

It blows my mind that these guys in these reaction videos have never heard these songs.

Every time I hear this song I go back in time to when I was a teenager dancing my heart out on the dance floor. I was that girl...I was the dancing queen, young and sweet, only 17... 😢

Catchy melodies, upbeat songs, close harmonies and real talent. ABBA is still hard to beat. And this is their anthem.

A: Agnetha, B: Bjorn, B: Benny, A: Anni-Frid and they are from sweden. Agnetha & Bjorn where married and Benny & Anni-Frid where married, but they are all divorced now 😉

I think he meant it as in: "this song is popular because it was on a popular movie and that´s how I know it"-way, which isn´t the case. This song is a classic and of course has been quoted, sampled and featured in many shows and movies. Not one in particular.

Wow, 2 for 2... :) Waterloo was in -74 and this song was a bit over a year when it was performed the day before the royal wedding. So no, it was not dedicated to the Queen to be...

Yup, 1974 . In 1973 they placed 3rd with "SOS". Fans were angry about that, so they went out and bought the single, making it #1 in Sweden, and then went and bought the album, also making that #1 as well.

My favorites are Fernando and Chiquitita. ABBA is HUGE!

I was 8 years old when this song came out. It was an instant hit. I still love this song. I get so happy every time I hear it. lol

I'm a rock and roller, but MAN, this is one awesome song. Both the songwriting and performance are just stellar.

ABBA stands for Agnetha faltskog B stands for Bjorn Ulvaeus B stands for Benny Anderson and last A stands for Annifrid lyngstad. Abba were not such a hit in USA as they didn't tour much and cause of that they didn't become such a big hit

ABBA is great. You should check out some of their other songs. Well worth it. Have you seen Mama Mia? If so, you heard a TON of ABBA's music. All of it was theirs ;) They were married and then divorced. If you want to delve a bit deeper, the two guys from the group wrote a Broadway musical called "Chess". Beautiful music there as well. Ever hear "One Night in Bangkok"? Go down the rabbit hole LOL

He doesn´t really like disco so I don´t think he´d like Mamma Mia or they´re early stuff. Maybe some of the ballads like "The winner takes it all", "Fernando", "Chiquitita"....
