Firstly, thank you so much for your informative and very useful videos. I have a question in relation to the rotary inertia, this was previously asked by Ryan McKnight The calculated kinetic energy given the 750 r/s, a radius of 500 mm and a ball mass of 1.5 kg is 105468 J Using the 0.77 value (for the solid sphere) produces a kinetic energy significantly less than the stated value. Using the rotary inertia I=mr^2 as per Ryan McKnight's value (375 ton mm^2) produces the correct kinetic energy in the Abaqus analysis. In the case where the rigid body reference point is at 0,500,0, as per your example. If the reference point is placed at the centre of the sphere, the rotary inertia is correctly defined using the 0.77 value. With the addition of an external reference point and coupling constraint in the assembly model, and the application of the velocity field at the reference point. The model also solves with the correct kinetic energy. Again thank you for you excellent work. If this is incorrect please comment.

Your videos are awesome and I have been following you for some time now. Finally, I believe I have something to add. The reason the elements are not deleted is because your keyword needs to be "Shear Failure, Element Deletion=YES", you also need to tick element deletion in the mesh element type and in Field Output requests activate SDEG under Failure/Fracture and STATUS under State/Field/User/Time. Your elements should delete properly.

Thank you sir. Can you please tell me how did you decide the angular velocity of pendulum ( at time 14:43 ) ? Did you assume it ? If yes then how the time period given by you ( at 16:22) is related to it ? If not then how to calculate it ? Could you please e-mail me

I came across an interesting problem if you wish to try and make video on the same. It's a tensile test upto failure. It is a multilayer steel material with approximately 15-16 alternative layers of austenitic (ductile and low strength, 40%, 1000MPa) and martensite (10% failure strain at 1600MPa). The resulting behaviour is interesting.

This warning concerns the future release of abaqus for which the *shear failure option will not be supported however you can use instead *damage initiation and *damage evolution options for modeling progressive damage and failure of materials. I have not paid attention to this warning since the model runs perfectly.
