There are so many of these big, relatively new stores sitting around empty. I wonder who thought expanding all of the pharmacy chains was a good plan. Whoever they are I bet they're living comfortably on their golden parachute

The Walgreens in Matteson Illinois looks just like that. It was closed a few years and then became a Family Dollar. Too many Walgreens to near each other. I'm glad it's now being used again as the family dollar. I shop there often.

I know the one you are talking about. The nearest Walgreens is about 5 minutes down that street on Harlem. I wonder if they considered that neighborhood to be a food desert before Family Dollar took over the site.

They don't throw old records away. They are shredded.

I’ve been to the Adams Shoppes plaza many times in my life, and I’ve noticed that the entire plaza is not doing as well as it should be.

This was built in summer 2013.

Hi Wallie, thanks for sharing all the interesting places you visit. I spent lots of time in the NY/PA area many years ago and it's nice to revisit some of the places that have since closed down. Keep up the great work you're doing and stay well. Thanks !

Absolutely love your videos especially this one, I use to work for walgreens. From what I can tell from the lights is the alarm seems to be disarmed, and they forgot to reset light timers. If the alarm was set, the lights wouldn't be on during the day, it overrides the timer.

Walgreens did not purchase Rite Aid, they purchased around 1,932 stores from them. They still have 2550 stores.On September 19, 2017, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approved a fourth deal agreement, this time allowing Walgreens to purchase only 1,932 Rite-Aid stores for $4.38 billion. The sale was completed on March 27, 2018. Three distribution centers and related inventory will be transferred after September 1, 2018, when the stores were rebranded to Walgreens. The 1,932 stores showed banners saying "Pharmacy now operated by Walgreens" in the meantime.As of fiscal year 2018, California with 570 stores is home to the largest number of Rite Aids, followed by Pennsylvania and New York with 529 and 321 respectively

Great videos, just wanted to say thanks, and that other abandoned business behind the Walgreens in the plaza you saw with the "Thank You" in the windows was a McGinnis Sisters Grocery Store, closed about 6 years ago, may be a little longer, not 100% sure of the exact date.

Interesting how the Walgreens are the one thing being abandoned.

The buzzing from the auxiliary, I notice it happens sometimes from my experience. Sometimes just rotating it in the aux port will cause a buzz, and other times, strain on the wire or just breaks in the actual wire can both cause that. I actually gotta get a new lapel on that note... Sucks when that happens tho, I've even had it on DSLR's where the wrong angle with the aux mutes the audio.

For me, when Rite Aid and Walgreens we’re across the street to each other, I have never seen it the other way. Walgreens is usually more successful than Rite Aid. Once there was a CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreen’s across the street, and the Rite Aid closed and then the CVS moved into Rite Aid’s building and the CVS building turned into a furniture store... really complicated.

The nationals logo and the Walgreens logo look almost exactly the same lol

I'm a branding professional and if Walgreens were my client, I would have advised them to use another symbol other than the W to avoid brand confusion. Remember the old mortar and pestle they used to use years ago? That was better than them simply using a W.

We have an abandoned Walgreens down here in Florida, except it looks way different and it has a gate instead of a lock, with everything closed and the only way to see inside is through the high window

the reason why this closed because 1. theres a walgreens less then 10 mins from here in cranberry township and 2. theres a rite aid next to this

In the town I live in Walgreens destroyed Rite-Aid. Amazing how other places are different.

This Walgreens does look fairly new. The newer stores around her have the windows above the door with the logo inside. In my area, Walgreens has opened many new stores over the years. For a while, it seemed like many intersections here had a Walgreens, Eckerds(Now CVS) and a K&B Drugs(which became RiteAid). The RiteAid stores in this area have all since closed. A couple of them have been repurposed as Family Dollar stores. I guess only so many of these chain drug stores can survive.

WOW! I'm so glad my Dad moved us before Mars exploded into lala land.

All of the Rite Aids here in the Atlanta and metro area has been closed. One mile from my house is a Walgreens. The Rite Aid that was down the street from me was 1.9 miles away and it is being turned into a Walgreens. And 2.3 miles away from my house is another Walgreens. Kinda of close if you ask me.

That's interesting, we have a Walgreens and a CVS here in San Antonio, Tx which are the 2 major pharmacy stores. We have a 24 hour Walgreens and another Walgreens that would stay open till midnight that were like less than 5 miles apart and they've both been open for almost 20 years. Recently, the non 24 hr store closed out of no where. No idea why they closed..

We have a Walgreens in Westampton New Jersey closing up on March 2, 2020. The Building looks pretty much like the one in this video. About 15-20 minutes from the Ames in Wrightstown NJ that you did the video on.

Also those are dumpsters... The rear one is a cardboard compactor attached the building that can be accessed from the backroom.. the front one is a garbage compactor similar to the cardboard one

It's pretty much exactly as you said it, when there's a Walgreen's and a Rite Aid right near each other, one of them closes. Usually the one doing less business, but sometimes the closed location is less practical than the other. Probably one thing that led to them announcing the closure of 200 locations back in August (which that location was likely one of those). But Walgreen's didn't fully acquire Rite Aid, though they DID attempt to, only to be blocked by the FTC. They eventually acquired about half of Rite Aid's stores. A few examples include a location in Hudson, NY (could be Greenport, it's sometimes hard to figure exactly along that stretch of US 9), where a Walgreen's was built a few years back, and recently after the deal, the newer Walgreen's closed down, and the Rite Aid was rebranded as Walgreen's, otherwise retaining the Rite Aid store look on the outside, other than signage, but completely remodeling the inside to the typical Walgreen's look. The newer Walgreen's even had the LED signage in front, and when they moved into the older Rite Aid building...they're still using the old Rite Aid signage with the letters, numbers, and symbols that have to be changed by hand. They didn't remove it and move the newer sign over to the new location. Another example is in Catskill, NY. This time, the much older Rite Aid closed, because...honestly, the location was cramped and inconvienent. The building literally took up about 2/3 of the property, while the Walgreen's had more ample parking and an easier to access drive-thru pharmacy. One case, though, still has both stores in operation, located in Halfmoon, NY (which borders Clifton Park), also on US 9. Both the Walgreen's and Rite Aid still operate as they had, which tells me that this Rite Aid wasn't acquired by Walgreen's. There's another, much newer Rite Aid a couple miles up the road with a red brick design, that is also still operating as a Rite Aid, while another Walgreen's operates on the other side of I-87 (Adirondack Northway) in Clifton Park. Still, it's certainly a strange feeling to see such a modern building like that vacant, while the company is still in business, and thriving.

Most of these Walgreens closing are part of Rite Aid purchase and that rite aid is probably going to be rebranded to Walgreens like my local Rite Aid

I just drove by this former Walgreens. Sometime this morning they put up yellow banners that stated "store fixture liquidation". The signage was not there last night.

Mars is in Adams Township. Been 41 years since I lived in Mars, but for sure not in Cranberry Township.

Last year, one of our Walgreens in our town closed. Then it got demolished for a Portillo’s

Walgreens didn't merge with Rite Aid, Rite Aid only sold a ton of its locations to Walgreens. The Rite Aid across the street looks like a former Eckerd.

Walgreen's WANTED to buy Rite Aid fully, but wasn't allowed. After this, Rite Aid went with a WHOLESALE of a big chunk of their stores to Walgreen's that was allowed by the DOJ (for anti-monopoly purposes, even as they allowed CVS to buy the Target in-store pharmacies as well as about 2/3 of Eckerd's before letting the merge with Aetna Insurance).

@@samanthab1923 - JC Penney (yes, the department store) sold like 2/3 of Eckerd's stores to CVS and the rest to a Canadian owner in the US Northeast and Eastern Canada...

In the Northgate Mall here in Lafayette Louisiana, there used to be a Weingarten's. The W in Weingarten's was the EXACT same W that Walgreens has. If you aren't familiar with Weingarten's, look it up.

Just drove by this former Walgreens and there is a banner hanging on front of the building. It says it will soon be home to a new Dollar Tree store.

You’re right about why it closed. After Walgreens bought out Rite Aid they ended up with a lot of stores right across the street from one another. They mostly closed the rite aid but in some situations the rite aid was the one they left open

Look like that Walgreens must of been built 2000 or a little after, strange that it closed, my nearest Walgreens also has the no trespassing signs on their dumpster as well.

There an abandoned Wendy's by the old Chambersburg Kmart and by Giant. Please do a video on that.

hey wallie i have a few places you could check out. i've seen you doing some thrift store vlogs as well as other things besides abandoned places. one place is the risch building antiques and notary. i've seen a kmart button before. another thing is a local farm/ steam show called portersville steam show. its the end of july and the first of august. its a few miles from moraine park. massive flea market and just alot of old things that nobody on youtube has really done a in depth tour of. Love the vids
