Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After Being parked for 10+ Years in a field (See Previous Video)- Dan's van rose from the ashes and drove 500 miles round trip to Granny Grose's Busses 2021 in State College PA!
It was a fun road trip, filled with break downs, adventures, repairs, and upgrades.
Craig's Red syncro ran fine throughout the whole trip as well, the silent and flawless support vehicle.

    Great video! Here in Europe it's quite popular to swap TDI-Engines (mostly with the AFN-engine) into these, did you ever come across one of those in the US?

  • @TheBarefootForge

    @TheBarefootForge

    3 жыл бұрын

    Those engines are pretty uncommon here in the US, where diesel cars make up a wayyyyy smaller percentage of cars on the road. That’s a great swap though!

I can't believe Dan would go on a long trip without having road-tested it on shorter trips before a 200 mile jaunt. Did Dan have to go 200 miles just to work on his van?

    Many of the Vanagons in my (european) market are diesel powered which puts less stress on the cooling system, improves fuel economy, torque, horsepower etc. Common trick is to fit a VW passat gearbox upside down to add a 5th gear and stronger cogs overall. My ideal would be a Vanagon Westy from Arizona with a 1.9 pd engine giving about 150 bhp. Sigh...

  • @TheBarefootForge

    @TheBarefootForge

    3 жыл бұрын

    Those diesels work well in the two wheel drive vanagons. It’s still an expensive swap though!

  • @Good-luck-Jonathan

    @Good-luck-Jonathan

    Жыл бұрын

    In the United States diesel price is typically a dollar more than petrol as you might call it. Aside from the cost of doing the swap, you have less reliability due to the turbo and diesel pump and belt. Glow plugs and injectors. There is more maintenance requirements and more complication unfortunately in with our diesel price being high, it would take 300,000 miles or more before it even pays for itself unless you do everything cheap and used.

  • @TheBarefootForge

    Reliability has to be earned. We’re taking vehicles that haven’t driven in 20+ years and putting them back into service- the same condition vanagon where you’re at is not possibly intrinsically more reliable.
