Abandoned Train Station & Nightclub - Revisiting The Wilkes Barre Train Station

Ойын-сауық

In this next video we revisit a location that I filmed for the first time back in 2017. With reports in the news about a renovation project taking place, i figured it would be the last time i could visit the iconic station. Now, in 2019 you will see that not much has changed since my first visit. So come along with me as we revisit this Abandoned train station & nightclub. Enjoy
►First visit here: bit.ly/34DSIrv
►Mike's channel: bit.ly/2oT4m2p
Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

If salvageable, they repurpose it into anything other than letting it rot. Train museum would work nicely, office space, anything is better than letting it rot.

Back in the mid 80's, while living in Wilkes-Barre, I was hired as a location/talent scout for a film company out of New York City. At that time the place was impeccably restored and managed by the Roth Family. There were train cars attached to the station (dining cars with exceptional food) and across from it period train cars (hotel rooms) beautifully decorated in the style of the 1890's. I booked the hotel cars for the film crew and they were overwhelmed by the place. It was at that time a beautifully restored and elegant facility. It was magnificent. When it passed out of the Roth's hands, it was taken over by a local entrepreneur who had a history of destroying everything he touched and that is when it slid into a horrible descent. The county has since restored it but it will never have the glory days of the 80's.

My older brother worked there....maybe 1981 or 82 when it was The Station restaurant and bar. He was a dishwasher, but got to see some of the great bands that played there. One that I remember that he told me about was The Edgar Winter Group. Such a shame it's in that condition.

This place is absolutely beautiful man. That old sixties wallpaper, the original ornamentation, and especially those spiral staircases!! Honestly those were probably my favorite part. Came across multiple sets of those just recently and loved them very much. You just don't see them anymore. Thanks for taking us along my friend, you know I love my old rail history, and this was a great piece of it

Me and my parents stayed in one of the rail cars when it was a motel in ether the 1980s or 1990s? I remember checking out the nightclub when we stayed there. The train rooms had beautiful reproduction victorian furniture but the motel office had restored original victorian furniture. I also remember eating at the dinner that had been moved to the same complex. It was all fabulous. I believe I was told only the reason the property was so big is because it also been part of the freight yards . all I know is we were staying there for my dad's High School reunion as he had graduated from Wyoming PA high school just about one town away. He talked of growing up there when Wilkes-Barre was the main place you went to go shopping. Very fashionable in its day.back in the 1930s & 40's On a side note the nj town of fanwood (next to the tiwn i live in) actually bought the victorian train station and restored it with a museum downstairs and a meeting room upstairs. The station masters quarters on the 3rd floor are closed to the public. The station is also on the hist. Register. And trains still run on what had been the jersey central rail lines now part of nj transit. Thank you for sharing

I think that little uppermost tower room was originally a look out, it's not big enough for anything else really. This place needs to be put on the historical registry, renovated to its former glory and make it a museum of the history of trains and their impact throughout history in the area. Built in 1868, it's earned the right to be a historical site, I really hope they save it. You can tell it was beautiful in its time.

The Cupola room was seldom used from 1979 to 85 the Station Restaurant. As A dinner waitress, I once served dinner to a young couple up there. He gave a diamond to her and thats where they got engaged. I worked there from the time the place opened to 1985. Many happy memories. Sad to see its demise.

As much as I appreciate seeing this ( once grand ) old place it saddens my heart as well. Wouldn't it have been great if someone had come in and restored this building with it's beautiful wood carvings and architecture, and made it into a railroad museum, restaurant, or such. So sad to see something with its history just left to decay and vandalism.

JP I did see a long flowing orb cross above you to the left of you. I watched twice. And seems to be just that a orb, thought I would let you know. But it is a very beautiful train station, and it is to bad the city won't do something soon. It would be a real shame to see this historic building torn down.

The building is still in pretty good shape. The train station part I would make into a museum about trains 🚂. I guess we can still have a bar so to speak but I wouldn’t trust those who get drunk and break into the museum I would go with the dairy bar or a nice Cozy diner.

At--2:40- I had to laugh...I'm watching this as I'm wearing a gray sweatshirt with that message on it with the doll head. It keeps you nice & toasty and is great advertising for a wonderful channel. I'm getting a cap next month. Great service, can't beat it. As I'm watching this our whole building doesn't have any water. Unbelievable!! Don't ever live in a Hud building if you don't have to. As soon as I can I'll be moving. Now onto your video here.

@@JPVideos81 Oh...it's just another thing to add to the list on Wensday when I see the head of houseing, she's on our (the tennent's) side. Our apt. manager took the whole day off & didn't answer her phone when the asst. manager tried to call her. When the biggies from Hud come to my apt building it will be a surprise to both managers.👏😁 They will go to apartment 'they' want to go too, mine will be one of them. Should be Interresting since the main manager comes to work when she feels like it, if some days at all. I'm going to write a Hud manual on Tennents Rights one day. It better be fixed tomarrow. I wisely have milk bottles full of water in my closet. Others in the building laugh at my prepping with freeze dry foods, now who's laughing?

Ha ha Officially abandoned im loving the new t shirt im so glad you took my idea on board you are amazing Jay .. ay 6:50 what was that flying past you? In the UK if a building is a certain age they place them on the listed register which means they cant knock it down or change any aspect of that building even the windows .. unless they apply for special planning permission .. i hate vandals they have no respect for their history or anything any place ..

I’m from the area. Wilkes barre is very corrupt and their city planning is trash. They cater to corporate franchises instead of developing and encouraging privately owned businesses and attractions. Center city is literally nothing but franchise restaurants, dollar stores night clubs and bars for college kids because they have two colleges in close proximity. The one cultural attraction, the Kirby center, is the only redeeming quality it has left.
