I always bought my garden tools at this Sears. Parking was NEVER a problem at this Sears Roebuck Store. Sad to see it go, as it was a great place to buy many items from electronics to clothing. This building is truly unique and one of the best examples of modern architecture. It is a gem!

I was born and raised in Riverside. I remember the Sears on 7th (yeah, I’m old). My folks took me and my brother there to buy school clothes (in August…we had to try on long pants or shoes. No air conditioning back then, just huge fans). I remember when the one out on Streeter was built, too. Much nicer store and it had air conditioning! My folks also shopped at Imperial Hardware, Pringles Drugstore next door to the court house, Evensens camera shop, Pep Boys on 8th and my Mom shopped at Mode O’ Day dress shop on Main. Such memories. Those places are all long gone now.

My Dad started working for Sears in 1958 and nearly everything we owned came from Sears. He worked at the warehouse out Kansan Ave as a television repairman and we would get a lot of things that returned and sold at a discount.I always wanted a Schwinn Sting-Ray but got a J.C.Higgins.We bought a brand new house across Arlington Ave and my brother and I would go to the new store all the time on our bicycles.I still have tools in my toolbox that were bought there.I loved that store and our whole family was at the grand opening. Thanks for the memories.

I worked there for 3 or 4 years at the Jewelry counter. It was my first job, I wanted to work there since I was a little girl. I thought the ladies were so classy and dressed very chic. I remember when there was a small candy and popcorn shop in the store. We would buy school clothes, special occasion dresses and home appliances. When I worked there the glamor had faded but I befriended an older Southern gentlemen named Dee and he wore a blazer and strong cologne. He would yell at the little kids playing by the stairs. I have very fond memories of working there.

In the early 70`s I worked at an auto parts store five miles away. Sears was an important customer to whom we sent deliveries of parts all day long. Mark was the parts guy in Automotive. Many customers of Sears`s at that time drove Ramblers`. Whenever Mark called me for parts he`d say "sorry man, got another Rambler".
