There should be a BATTERY BOOST switch on the left had side by the driver. When pushed, it connects the coach batteries to the chassis batteries for more amps to crank. Charge them all up and bleed the fuel at the injectors. You are getting smoke so it must be getting some fuel, but maybe not on all the injectors.

Hi, when you start 10 seconds you should spray ether 3 times while cranking, not only 1 time before starting. This engine has not fired for a long time, has no prime (you said it is a Diesel). It will prime itself, when it starts on ether. The RV looks very nice, lighter colors.

When a diesel sits that long, and you changed out the filters. You need to prime the system in order for it to run. I have been dealing with diesels (big rigs) for 16 yrs.. Try that first, and make sure you have the proper batteries for that thing.

LOL, it's a diesel that has been sitting, the rings have relaxed and the compression is down. 24volt the starter so it spins a lot faster and it will start. Once it has run a little the rings will seal back up and the compression will go back up. I used to work on diesels and seen this many times. Be careful with the ether, too much and a bang will bend a rod or crack a piston. Seen that happen too.

But NOT MORE THEN 1 & 1/2 teaspoons, EACH [ so that you DONT BEND THE Piston Rods ! If I Tried this, I would Let it Sit for @ Least an Hour or Two ! It might free up the Rings, and you might get it started ! Unless there is another problem !

Combination of proper sized batteries needed …. stall fuel not only in the tank but along the way into the engine needs replacing and cleaning. Nice looking rig and a little outdated with some interior things BUT I would think with a Diesel engine that should last longer than gas engines it’s a winner. AND yes you probably should have found a local Diesel shop and gotten their help … especially with the distance you traveled back and forth. Good luck guys and love your channel. Its not cranking fast enough. I would say that the grounding is all corroded. Left out in that cold and damp weather. Diesel goes bad and should have tried to drain the tank. I know you said it was half full, but its full of water. These RVs must be winter prepped or they won't start come spring time.

Or add a jug of Hawes fuel conditioner. That will pull the water threw without wasting alot if fuel. Been using Hawes year round in all my diesel engines for years without ever being froze up or water sputtering. It's a amazing product that quiets the injectors on start up. Takes that metallic rap out when firing up.

Apart from all the other valid tips and comments, it sounded very much as if only one cylinder was really trying. Why not the others ? Need bleeding ? Valves not seating, blocked or otherwise troubled injectors... Often they will come back once it starts but they are not helping that first start at all. Key point is that it needs more juice at the starter.

From a diesel mechanics perspective. If its spluttering like that, it the batteries, not the engine. Its nothing internal because if it was not the battery, the exhaust would be coming out faster then it is. Try more battery power, and then failing that, clean out the fuel system. Defiantly a good deal and go right on ahead with it. Feel free to ask more questions down below this comment.

My view would be if it truly has half tank of old diesel, it may be bad/ water in it no telling. I would try to see if there is a way to bypass the tank and pull fuel from a fresh source to see if it cranks. If it fires up and runs then tackle the job of draining and disposing of the old diesel.

Did all the fuel filters get changed on it? You probably got it back to the shop by now. I agree, priming, clean filters first. Make sure you fill the new filters with fresh diesel. If it's a cummins there should be a priming button close the the filters. It takes a lot of button pushing to prime it sometimes. The block heaters could be defective or the fuel injectors could be clogged up. Any of a numerous things. I think it's worth it to get it running. The engine could be tired and worn out, then again neglect and sitting is hard on a vehicle.

You can get 05-06 models from $55k (asking) with 50k miles. And saw one with 15k for $69k. All comes down to price. Depending on how long it’s been sitting, one of the first things I’d try is flush the fuel system, clean the injectors and bleed the system and make sure the glow plugs are working.

Monaco is a good RV Company (or at least used to be). My wife and I owned one for 14 years (Monaco Windsor) and did a lot of camping and traveling in it. If the RV has been sitting a loooong time, first thought is fuel not making it to the cylinders, probably due to air in the system. Also diesel fuel has a tendency to gel in cold weather, which means that stuff can be anywhere in the fuel system. Also agree with other that it should be spinning faster, check every connection between batteries and starting system, especially the grounds. Don't purchase w/o driving it, as I'm sure you know, repairing diesels gets expensive, quickly. One of the reasons I did 80% of my own maintenance and upgrades. A drive will show up just about any issue w/the drive train in short order. The fact that the filter you had trouble removing leads me to believe the original owner may not have followed the recommended preventive maintenance, which puts up a red flag in my book. Nice clean interior for sure, but that isn't where the $$$ disappear to.

My opinion after working on RV's for 30 years. Check the coach batteries and see if they are still good. If they are, start the generator up and let it start charging those batteries. That way once it gets going you can press the aux start/batt boost button and it will help. You really never had the proper voltage to the starter so it could spin faster to start that engine. It doesn't need an overhaul as it does not have that many miles on it. You changed the oil which was a great start, plus the fuel filters. I've never had to spray starter fluid in one to start it unless it is a really old engine. That one is what a late 1990's to an early 2000's? That engine just needs more cranking power and it will start.

Did you prime the fuel system? If a diesel sits for a long time or filters are changed, you need to get the air out of the system and prime it until fuel pisses out of the intake on the engine.

I'm not a Diesel Mechanic but > What @ dbc 105 said, Leaves me w/ the Idea of getting one of those " Snake " Cameras, run the line down to the Intakes [ Where the Starter Fluid was Sprayed ] and along side of it run some flexible tubing and add Marvel Mystery Oil in to the Cylinder.

Looks like a great project. My feeling it could be a bad starter but then could be other issues too like fuel pump and stuff like that. I think you guys could tackle it since it is a great looking RV

Did you bleed the injectors after changing the filters? Did you check the glow plugs for resistance. No continuity no glow plug. Some engines, if the glow plugs don't cycle, it won't let the fuel relay open the fuel shut-off valve.

Never change fuel filters on a diesel after sitting for long time cause you will loose the prime and you could burn the starter to get it started for the first time, crank it with old filters and then change filters, also when cranking you can use wd40 or auto zone brake cleaner and you have to spray while cranking to get it fired up

When you fitted the new fuel filter did you fill it up with diesel as you will never start it without doing that first..

crack open each injector line/loosen each injector, and crank the engine, or pump the fuel primer mechanism until you see diesel leaking , then tighten, and do the same for each remaining injector. that gets the air out of the lines, and will show if the pump is working. there may also be a mechanics starter button in the rear by the engine bay, like on buses. you probably lost fuel prime. you also probably need a little more battery to get that engine starter spinning the engine faster.

Super clean., if there are no harsh smells I would buy it. I think the batteries are way to small. Not sure the engine but it should be a bigger cummins or a cat. The more battery the better . Plus bleed the air out of the fuel system.... bleed from the injectors to see if you have pressure

That a nice motorhome.that motor is fine. Clean the injectors. Flush the fuel through till you get the fresh diesel and it ensures the injectors are spraying. Start it up.

Hi from the uk , I love your channel really good content , you really need to go back and get that rv, you have already bought parts and spent a few quid, it wants to start but even with the new battery the starter motor still seems a little bit slow , and the fuel tank on that thing will be massive , did you put enough fresh fuel in , of theres more bad gas than good gas , that could cause you problems :)

Hi guys I just saw your video on the A class diesel pusher . When you changed fuel filters did you refill the new ones was diesel fuel before you installed it. If you did not it will not start until they failed all it’s going pumping air in the fuel system

For Diesel engines, after siting for long time, usually you need to prime the pump to remove the air.
