It’s crazy no one has bought that place bunch of kids and teens in Azle would make a sweet bowling ally skate rink since the other one burned down something cool could definitely be put there and Azle population is growing a lot

I miss this store. I grew up going shopping there every weekend when I visited my grandparents and I now live with them here in azle. So cool to see inside of it after all these years! Thank you for the video!!

Spent many hours in that store in the late 80s and 90s. Ugh, the layaway lines around the holidays... forever taking.🥴

Wow! I live less than a mile away! I really love Azle. A small quiet town. Country but just enough around me. It's nice being away from the city.

Since this Video was made Beals became Burkes and is now Mardells. The Kmart was built as a stand alone building in 1983 it moved from across the highway. In 1987 Winn-Dixie also moved and the rest of the shopping center was completed including a Burger King. The Burger King became a chicken express only 4 years after it was built in 1987 and still operates as a chicken express. The Winn-Dixie became Brookshire’s also in 2003. The former Kmart location across the highway became a Diamond Grocery Store and now operates as a Dollar tree. The former Winn-Dixie across the street was partially torn down on 2001 after sitting abandoned since 1987. A Pizza Hut and Jack in The Box now occupies that space, however the rest of the shopping center remains but operates as a DRs office and Dollar General

The Kmart section is still abandoned

Even though it's spelled "Bealls," it's actually pronounced as "Bells." I know this because I've been to one and I heard a cashier say "welcome to Bealls (Bells)" when the door opened.

This is a cool video to see! I live in Azle, they closed down the Beall's & now they just opened a Burke's in the old Bealls building. I wish they would do something with the old Kmart already but it's not looking good.

Interesting how they put Beals fixtures in there and it’s rare seeing a Kmart from the 2003 bankruptcy.

Every Kmart in the DFW area closed up from that bankruptcy. This is the only one that wasn't renovated or repurposed. All the others are either repurposed or long gone. Outside of the DFW you will find one here and there untouched. Especially that Corsicana one.

Hi, Wallie and Kayla! A great video! It's really sweet that Kayla has found memories of her and her family shopping at the Azle, TX KMart. I have found memories of shopping in the Weirton,WV KMart. I still my entertainment center that I bought at the Weirton KMart. I also have my Crosley stereo that I bought at KMart. The Crosley stereo is the one with the record player built-in the top, with the hinged lid. Wallie, I just recently subscribed to Ace's Adventures KZread Channel. Anthony has really cool videos. I was on the KZread home screen scrolling down to see what video that I'd like to watch and Anthony was filming inside the abandoned Century 111 Mall. He just filmed that recently. Check it out, it's cool.

Glad you enjoyed! Yeah, Kayla was a little sad to see her old store again all worn and beaten. I miss the Weirton store too. Shopped there a bunch of times over the years. Can't believe its been over 4 years now since it closed. Ace's Adventures is a personal friend of mine! We've collabed a few times over the years and he actually stopped by my place after he was inside of Century III and showed me the footage before he even got home to edit it. I wanted to go, but I was glad I didn't as the place is still secured.

@@WallieB26 Yes, the Weirton KMart closed in April 2017. As I mentioned, I still have my entertainment center that I bought at the Weirton KMart and I still have the Crosley stereo from there. When we had the WebTV for Internet access, I also bought that at KMart. If you recall, WebTV hooked to your tv the same way you hooked up a Play Station and used your tv to view the Internet/websites instead of a computer monitor. We no longer have WebTV Internet service, for the company went under.

It was nice to get to see Kayla's childhood Kmart. It looks a bit funny having one side of the sign cut off like that. Great video! Thanks Wallie and Kayla!

Glad you enjoyed! Yeah I thought it was a bit bizarre the place was cut like that. I'm shocked the landlord or realtor didn't pay to remove the Big K section to make the building look more generic and readily available for a potential tenant.

I grew up in Reno Azle area for the first 11 years of my life. That wasn't the original location. They built that after we left. The original store was set further back on the lot. It faced 199. Never went into the new store.

Oh wow, so instead of renovating their building, they just jumped ship and built a new store. Same thing happened to the one in New Castle, Pa that I filmed several times.

@@WallieB26 the original building was about half the size of the new one. If I remember right when they moved out of the old building Diamond Groceries moved into it. They were a local grocery store in the 80s.

I mean i am not familiar with the area like you and Kayla are but I thought that it was a busy enough area that something should have moved into that building as well. Oh and I love Chicken Express! Though I didn't eat at this particular location, I ate at the one in Weatherford closer to Kayla's parents house.

Yeah, its because they struggled so badly because of the Walmart invasion. So due to the 2002-2003 bankruptcy, Kmart just pulled completely out of the DFW.

I remember when it shut down…my store as a kiddo and I’m still here in Azle.

In recent weeks I had noticed here in Lubbock that Stein Mart is closing. Our Bealls have closed, last at the South Plains Mall but unsure of the second location.

To my understanding Stein Mart filed for bankruptcy and is closing all of their stores. We have one about 15 minutes from our home which is closing too.

That would explain why it closed. Kmart was just no match for Walmart in the DFW.

The only Kmart I had near me closed in 2016 it was a super Kmart but then it was shortened to a regular Kmart then it closed

Many of the Super Kmarts that lasted that long downsized. Very few didn't. The Warren, OH location was the very last Super Kmart still running when that closed in 2018.

Man that's crazy... I was a kid back in the 90s living in Azle. I remember playing Pokemon on my Gameboy Color near the exit of the outdoor goods because there was light haha... That register was in that exact spot.

Wow, can't believe it's been like this for the last 17 years! At least, a small part has been taken by another business. Very cool to hear Kayla's memories from that place, and the amount of stuff inside is insane!

Yeah, I'm surprised its still empty. Only a couple others around DFW are at this point. Rest were all repurposed or demolished. Yeah, she misses this store the most.

Hey Wallie, I have an abandoned Big Kmart By a Home Depot and a Burger King It closed sometime around 2018 or 2019. it wasn’t replaced with something yet. Idk there going to replace it soon or Demolish it entirely.

Sadly several Kmart locations that have closed over the last 8 years still stand empty and have had no plans of anything taking over the properties yet.

Good video! I wonder why, when this Kmart closed up, that they didn't sell all of the fixtures. Usually, when a place closes up, they sell everything, including the fixtures. Unless, they were from that other place next store Bealls! Sad!

All of the Kmarts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area closed in the early 2000s from the original bankruptcy. Someone else noted that the fixtures may be from Bealls. Thats seems more likely but I'm sure a bunch were just reused from that Kmart.

I saw mold on the door that has boards on it in the garden center.

Beels is mostly in Texas. The parent company is stage out of Houston. They also own gordmen. Original the Beels was going to rebuild to gordmen but stage filed for bankruptcy and now going out of business.

The two stores are owned by the same parent company. Beels is like jc penny sears and kohl's it a middle class department store. I heard gordmen Is like a clearance type store where they sell stuff department stores trying to clearance or Discontinue.

It just closes last August. It was also a old winn Dixie also. Also in lakeworth the atwoods is old Kmart thst closed in the mid 90s with a old abandoned Kroger next door.

I helped out with a remodel the store was going through and late eighties and my mom was working at the Lake Worth store at the time it was located on jacksboro highway and right next to it was a Kroger

That entire shopping center you are talking about marched the Kmart/Kroger videoed these guys did in Haltom City. That Lake work Kmart and Kroger have since both been converted into a Massive Atwoods

It's a Vision Source eye-care center now. The DQ is gone, as are Azle Western Wear, that car-lot and the Shell station; there's a shiny new QT gas station there now.

That Pretty Amzaoning that kmart been Abandoned that long my kmart been abandoned since 2000 have not been use since then and it in bad sharp for sure.

You're seriously "impressed" that these kids are willing to go out in drizzle?? PLEASE. I used to work at this store in the '80s, so I was curious about it. But the video gave no info at all. It was mainly about the two nose-rings sitting in their car, talking about being worried about a minor drizzle. I felt nothing. Don't cheer these idiots on.

Grew up in this town. Used to go that KMART all the time with my family. My sister had a friend who worked there as a cashier and she would help my sister steal CDs all the time 🤣 She'd walk up with a stack of CDs and charge my sister $20. I had to get photos done there one time and I hated that my mom made me lol

I don't think those fixtures are Bealls store related. How would Bealls sale its store with the K-Mart part (that's all moldy) ? Wouldn't that be a health hazard to your employees, if your storage area is mold infested?

It closed in my birth year haha. Been driving past the building since I was just a baby though and always wondered why my family never went into that parking lot unless they were going to chicken express, I didn't realize until now it was cause it is abandoned.
