Thank you for taking care of the kittens. I know you mean well but I think you should have waited for the mother cat to return. Mother cats can travel far in search of food. All three kittens were at the same place indicating that the mother was keeping them in the area. Two of them were also healthy. It means that the mother was regularly feeding them. She must have returned later, searched for her babies but would not have found them, making her worried and sad. Maybe you should take them back and see if the mother comes back.
