Abandoned KFC & Jamesway - Franklin, PA

Ойын-сауық

Abandoned KFC & Jamesway - Franklin, PA. Easily one of the most overgrown abandoned places I've been to in a long time. This place has been closed for at least 5 years but may be way more. Closed because the owner didnt have the money to update the building.

With so many things going out of business and disappearing, sometimes I wonder whats going to be left. When I was a kid, if you went to work for a restaurant, you had a job as long as you wanted it. Now you could lose your job tommorow, with no warning. Such was the case with the Little Ceasers here in Jasper Ga. They had a job one day, the next day they didnt. They came to work, and the locks had been changed. Absolutely nothing is sacred or promised anymore.

I agree. It's awful. I've seen it happen here in Pittsburgh at all the Steak N Shake locations and the Joe's Crab Shack. Closed without warning and employees showed up for work to see they were out of a job. It's horrible, really. And it breaks my heart for those who depend on that paycheck.

I worked at this kfc for almost 9 years., left shortly before they closed down (end of 2009). They sold everything inside to other restaurants. They had just remodeled it probably in 2007. Also, this Jamesway was never an Ames, but at the local mall there was an Ames (formerly Hills) that is now a Dunham’s. & Ollies.

@@FlameDragon The old Kmart in Reno was originally built as Jamesway back in the mid-60's...Westons department store was originally built about the same time at the location of where you took this video. After Westons closed down, Jamesway moved into it for a few years before they went out of business, then Farm and Fleet moved in. If you have been out to the Cranberry Mall in Venango County, the location of where Ollies is was originally built as Hills department store, and when they went out of business, Ames moved in for a few years.

There's a former King's/Jamesway up in Dunmore, PA that was converted into a Big Lots a while ago. The label scar underneath the Big Lots sign was super visible for a long, LONG time after they closed but it seems like it's faded significantly in the past 3-4 years unless they just finally power washed it to remove it. Same plaza also had an Acme that shut down in the opposite end of the plaza. It's now an Advance Auto Parts store. In the basement of the former King's / Jamesway there's a furniture store now (Eynon Furniture Outlet/EFO) but the basement once held a really old bowling alley/arcade complete with one of those shuffleboard "bowling" games where you had to slide the shuffleboard pucks over metal bars to 'knock down' the pins.

I have seen alot of abandon retail/fast foot/restaurant buildings videos on KZread but I never seen one with bee's nest in any of them which surprises me because you would think that some of these old buildings would have some kind of nest of stinging insects. Out of all of the abandon fast food joints this KFC is the worst one. Yeah it is sad that the owner couldn't remodel because of the lack of funds. Yeah my local Long Johns closed up and it was one of the Long Johns that had the A&W food as well. I know that they got rid of alot of stuff because I saw a dumpster with a bunch of stuff from inside. I knew it was going to close down eventually because several months ago when they were still open they closed the drive thru and had the inside still running but a couple of months later they closed up shop. It opened up in the early 1980s. Besides the business there wasn't booming vs McDonald's and Wendy's. Nice find on Jamesway. My parents shopped there quite a few times. 11 former Jamesway locations became Ames.

Well now I know I'm a smidge older than the both of you since I was in a Jamesway in Altoona/ Ebensburg PA as a kid. As for "Big Lots∆Odd Lots" it started as Odd Lots but Revco took issue since they had a division with a similar name ~ therefore Odd Lots expanded into Big Lots! outside of Columbus, Ohio where the company was originally started. Both names went into the what was part of the quasi~slogan/mission statement: They generally didn't buy full lots/ pallets of the same eXact items from vendors Plus they would buy runoffs & discontinueds etc - keeping the prices low but the stock limited. Like the “Ollies” outlets today that have good stuff cheap ~ like tons from ToysRus. . . . a semi-value city if you ever heard of them. Today, Big Lots! appears to buy massive lots since all the stores have the same products in large quantities and not the lowest prices around. * Wikipedia has a better, longer explanation *

Did you know jamesway have been in business since 1961 and they had several stores all over the place but then they filed for bankruptcy and converted to Ames which was kind of strange if you ask me.

There is one in Indianapolis Southside on Southport rd but the owner owns two so he close that one down and kept the one in beach grove and it close because the owner of the property and he wanted more and then the KFC owner left and after a couple of weeks he repainted it and now truck driver park there and it funny.

Apparently the area just isnt good enough anymore like it was years ago. It's in the oil region of PA which doesnt see as much life as it once used to so not as many people live there. But for those that do, they end up suffering.

I walk by this KFC all the time and see how very bad shape this is in. This is very sad to see. The management of this restaurant should of just stuck with the corporation. They would of still been in business today if management only decided to stick with the company instead of trying to franchise it. Speaking of bees nest, one day last summer walking by there on a nice long walk, i saw a huge spiderweb suspended in mid air with a thick silk string connecting from kfc here all the way to the wires of the post by the highway! Thanks wallieB26 for coming through Franklin where i live to be checking out all the abandoned buildings i am familiar with here. Also this kfc was built in 1992 i remember. Family and i ate out here for dinner when they first opened in 1992.

KFCs (at least here in the DFW area) seem to be getting less and less common. There's still a decent number, but a notable decline from 15-20 years ago. The trend towards healthier food is likely doing quite a number on their business. Long John Silvers is probably doing worse though. There used to be at least 5 in my immediate area 15 years ago but now the nearest one is 30 minutes away. I see why though. I've been eating healthy for the last two years and now I just feel sick any time I try to eat fried meats.
