Abandoned Dairy Queen - Franklin, PA
Ойын-сауық
Abandoned Dairy Queen - Franklin, PA. Closed in early 2019, this place never saw life for any customers during the summer season here. Once featured a lunar module outside of its front doors. It also has an airplane inside. Sad that it closed and never reopened as signs said it would.

A long time ago, the Ottawa IL McDonald's had an old fashioned car in it and you could sit in it and eat. Long gone now. Cool that there was a plane in that one.
What??? DQ in Franklin is closed?! I haven’t been up that way in a while. They had a space capsule in the front of that building, which was as neat as the plane inside! ☹️

I was born in Franklin, Pa and raised my 2 youngest children there and this was a staple in our summer...my son loved the airplane. Sad to see it close. 😧😧
Wow. That is one cool airplane seating is neato. Some ice cream and chicken strip basket sounds good right meow.
Thanks for the video man. My family used to drive to and through Franklin a lot and we always stopped here on the way back home.
What an oddly unique Dairy Queen. Never seen one like that before, I get all kinds of vibes from it.
That plane is so awesome. Hopefully somebody can get it out and put it to good use. Nice video!

They are making it a new ice cream shop but not dq
There is a restaurant near my work that "closed for the winter" around New Years 2016 and still hasn't opened. Though the place still has power.

Awesome looking place! Great video man!
Good video wallie. Haven’t seen one of these abandoned in awhile. I liked how you started. “I can’t get Ice cream for real” good video lol
Such a cool looking dairy queen ashame they had to close awesome video bro
Awesome Video Wallie. Love that plane in there. Looks like it is in decent shape. Too bad they can not reopen it. Stay Awesome!!!
Hello WallieB26! Another Epic Video! Shout Out To Kayla & Bradley! Congratulations Again On The Z24! Thank You! & “Stay Awesome” 😎
all of us that grew up in franklin, that's part of our childhood memories...eating a cone in the airplane at dairy queen. so sad that it's closed and I can't pass this cool spot on to my kids. hopefully someone will buy it and reopen someday!
That’s pretty nice, back then we used to have a lot of Dairy Queen’s but they all closed, but one opened last year and that’s the only one we have
Awesome video, wallie
Its funny I found this video. I'm a trucker and I deliver chemicals from Tennessee to a plant in frankin. Every time I drive by that dq I find it strange. That hill can on down the road can be brutal in the winter.
I grew up in Franklin pa since i was 6 years old. I been to this dairy queen many of times since my childhood. Very sad to see this permanently closed and sad to see the removal of the Apollo space capsule as well. For me, this DQ is filled with childhood memories when family and us siblings would all go here for ice cream, sit at the airplane, and look at the Apollo space capsule as well. Very sad and depressing to see and very depressing to not see the Apollo space capsule there anymore. I found out earlier today on my way to a dental appointment in mercer about this dairy queen being closed up. My dad was saying on way to appointment that this DQ is up for sale. I hope someone buys this DQ up and opens it back up preserving it the way it was. I would also love to know where the Apollo space capsule was taken to. Thank you Wallie B26 for posting and sharing this! Totally agree with you guys about how very sad this is!
The air plane was really cool and it's a shame to see a place like that just close up and like you say it's all about the charm of the place and that place has charm and I love dairy queen and stay awesome always really good videos Willie!
Amazing video as always! Looks like they were gonna do construction on it but it never happened and it just ended up closing up once they sold all the stock locked up and just left and never came back to empty the place out! Hopefully they do something with the property soon and all that stuff gets emptied and figured out where its going! Enjoy your night
Love your videos, sad to dairy queen closed really wanted ice cream , so anyway thanks for sharing and stay awesome
Dang, you and your bad luck with DQs! That one looked cool! The coolest one I've seen around my parts in MN is this one in Roseville (one of the burbs just north of St. Paul). It's a treat only one, but it still has all the old signage, and it looks awesome.
Woah so cool i watch ur vids every day!
Wow that plane is stinking amazing! Definitely the first one I've seen with an airplane! I bet that car has been there since they closed 😂 The door at 5:25 too XD Had a theatre here that had doors that high XD Absolutely vintage too! I love that old-school pickup/order window at 8:06 too! We had a couple or three here; now there's only one that was upgraded to grill and chill a few years ago.
As a truck driver I went by that place all the time when picking up loads in areas just north of there always wanted to stop and enjoy some ice cream along with checking out the uniqueness of that place but never could squeeze the time in to do so, ashame it's closed down!
This was a fun time! Shame we didn't get food! I wanted a cheeseburger and a blizzard!
That was a pretty cool looking DQ there just a shame it never reopened I loved that giant blizzard just lying over out there
I've never saw a grill and chill close during the winter. Awesome plane. This location had an apollo command module boilerplate 1 of only 4. Shame its gone.

What's going On
I worked at this DQ when I was in high school. Kim, the owner, passed away a short time ago and the location hasn't reopened since his passing.
Thank you for the Great video
*_That was such a cool location. VERY unique, and such a shame it closed and never reopened for this summer. I checked the website, and it says "under construction," so it doesn't seem to belong to this DQ anymore. Appears to be gone for good. Sad!_*
Love your channel.just subscribed
I've never seen a DQ with a plane in one. Our DQ doesn't have no plane nor does the one in Durant. Awesome and cool video Wallie!
I love The old school seating i hate the new crap! My dairy queen i grew up with had tiffany style overhead lighting it was so pretty and awesome! Thanks for sharing

Was just telling my kids about this place. I grew up there. It was my second job. Fun times working there. Not your typical fast food place. It was a franchise and the owner just did things his way. They closed on the winters because nobody wanted to drive up the hill in the winter to get burgers or ice cream. If I remember correctly, the owner lived in the house right next to it. Not sure if he’s still around. He was probably in his 50s when I was a kid working there. The space thing out front was cool. Wonder what happened to it.
Those air planes though 😍
The local story goes that the long, long time owner passed away. He owned it so long that he was grandfathered in on what he paid for use of the Dairy Queen name and brand. Anyone who bought it to open and operate it as a Dairy Queen would have to pay current prices to use the Dairy Queen name and brand. We never understood why they had indoor seating but were never opened in the winter. The kids loved sitting in the airplane to eat their ice cream. The last I knew, the building and land were for sale. We really miss it. It was a double whammy for my sister as she didn't have a DQ in her town and she loved to go get her Blizzard when she was visiting her. Now she can't get her Blizzard in either town. The space capsule was loaded up and hauled away. I don't have any idea where it went. The last I knew, the building and land were for sale. Rumor has it that the airport bought the land and are going to tear the building down. At one time the owner had red lights up high but had to remove them because they were confusing to the airplanes flying into and out of the Franklin Airport.
We had a Dairy Queen a long time .ago it shut down because the owner saleing bad candys if u know what I mean in 2016 we got a new Dairy Queen i notice a. Sign that said comeing soon I was so excited 😆 i can’t believe our luck i love your videos thx u so much in love the theme of this Dairy Queen especially that airplane in the old school sign

Aw you need to send wallie.the pic of that place it'll be cool.
Aww so sad....I have never ever seen a DQ like that one! Oh and so clean looks like it will open any time now.... The ones we have in okla is nothing like that.
I loved sitting in the airplane as a kid. It was fun. You kinda had to be first or wait forever to get the seats. The rumor is that the owner got sick and just couldn’t reopen it for the summer, the only time of year that it opened ever. The whole town looked forward to getting food and ice cream from there and lines of people would jam pack the inside. Franklin is a small town and you’d always run into people you knew there at DQ. My grandma would always take orders for people who wanted ice cream after dinner and we would take the 5 minute drive to get there. By the time we got back, the ice cream would be melted. Still always fun
That plane ✈️ is totally awesome 😎
Remember going there in the late 90s with parents and grand parents still remember playing on those as a kid I am 31 now I stopped here a week before Thanksgiving in 2018 got my last flamethrower burger and blizzard oreo on 😂 I talked to ths young kid who was working he told me they would not be reopening sad memories now
There was a very unique dairy Queen in garretsville Ohio it had alot of old toy cars old traffic lights and vintage gas pumps I have no idea if the place is around anymore
Wow, what happened in Franklin? From a a different part of the country. So sad to see towns go down like this. Did businesses go down for good or just move?
unusual to see a dairy queen closed especially such a cool dairy queen
Wow, I used to go there every year at Applefest.
There’s your Blizzard! Lol
The original owner of the Dairy Queen in franklin, Kim, passed away a while ago. A guy Colton owned the place, and now he abandoned it. My sister was married to him, so they both ran the place around 2017-2018. They don’t speak to eachother now, but that’s what happened. Colton is supposedly in New York now.
Tune in next week to find out if wallie will ever get to eat....spoiler...he dosent
This has to be truly one of the coolest Dairy Queens in America. Such a shame they closed it.
The vintage blizzard cups had cartoon Dennis the Menace and his dog Ruf printed on them.
And, yes, there was a real space capsule out front
Thank you for your videos there's a Dairy Queen here in California that closed two days before I went there the door was unlocked and there's a person inside that said they were a Dairy Queen employee and I was able to get a Dairy Queen dipped cone a blizzard and then when I left I was wondering why did the did not charge me
My grandfather did all the brick and stone work to this building... Ashame nobody can run this place!
Grocery store bought ice cream will never come close to a dairy queen, used to be a place on Brookline blvd that sold hand packed ice cream but closed now.
Too bad you couldn't take that big blizzard with you guys it'll be a cool keepsake.
was that blizzard cup heavy to bad you didn't have a pickup truck

I love the blizzard . Haven’t had one in a while.wish that giant blizzard was real. I could share it with a bunch of friends.
There used to be an space capsule in front of this location. According to Yelp.com.

There is a old Dairy Queen in Altoona pa in then it closed but it’s now a new ice cream shop
Never saw a DQ with a plane!! Awesome
At least our DQ still has the red barn also in Duncansville
DQ closes in the winter up there? Down south DQ is open year round.
@gaylenewood7707

Well there's a dairy queen in hamilton illionis that is open all year round and so is a couple in Quincy Illinois and they are very good better the one in keokuk iowa the guy who bought it made the ice cream there taste like freezer burnt no flavor it's like licking cardboard..
This dq always closed in the winter I think cause their was no heat in it. It was bought by a new owner in late 2018 early 2019. And dq wanted them to update it and the new owner didn’t want to put that kind of money into it and here it sits now empty
From what I heard, the owner was cheap and refused to keep it open in the winter due to it only having a wood stove. But I loved the airplane themed seats. If I had the money, I would open up the place. Just sad how economically depressed the area has become over the past 30 years.

Update: Someone beat me to opening up the place because it’s another ice cream place now. Apparently still has the same airplane seating.
My question ! In the future .so many jobs are closing what will it be like to live
The owners of this retired. I used to love sitting on the airplane
I live in Franklin they had pretty good food to
That sucks that it was closed.
That was cool
The owner passed away and that’s why it never opened back up

😞😔😢 I live here. And I missed Dairy Queen. I did not know that oh Dairy Queen is the only one with a plain inside. I always like that plane. And I do miss going now. I miss my blizzard. And I miss my peanut butter buffet. And they are wavy. They can for the video
Poor wallie. You’re gonna have to start keeping some snacks with you in your car.
Did they do lactose free stuff?
Man your video are funny
I remember going to that dairy queen

Did you happen to notice the airport nearby? You missed the space capsule.
you Need to check out The abandoned CAMP GROUND iN LINSEVILLE PA
I’m sure the menu at that DQ is different from the ones In Texas
The best ice cream was polly's ice cream out from Franklin Pennsylvania
