I did some research and found out this hotel was built as a Holiday Inn back in the 1960’s. It was originally a motel with an outdoor pool, but they added the atrium later on to connect all the rooms together. Later on it became a Ramada, and after that it was closed down and reopened as an independently owned hotel. This place would be worth saving if the right person would take ownership of it and do some TLC! Great video, guys! Also, thanks for not doing any vandalism. I hate it when people explore abandoned places and trash them!

Gone are the days I remember when the sign of a Motel 6 meant you could get a seedy room for $6.00 a night and a grumpy manager. They were a beacon for backpacking hippies when weather was unkind or the need for a bath became important. Nice job of showing it off Rob. Thanks for the tour. 🖤🇨🇦

Here's the scoop...hotel basement flooded in March 2019 and the owners closed the hotel temporarily with hopes of opening in June 2019. but, when June rolled around no work was done on the hotel and the city started monitoring the property and marked it unfit for human occupancy on Sept.2019 ... But perfect for rodents ,now! They tried to contact owners but nothing, the city can take over after year and hopefully a new owner will fix it up

That hotel started life as a Holiday Inn. There used to be Holiday Inns like that across Texas. Back in the 70’s and 80’s, I stayed in several. Exxon put me up in them when I was on business trips. Didn’t really like them because they were noisy and humid because of the pool and kids running loose.

I did some Googling.... It was not a Motel 6 at the time it closed down. And it got some VERY bad reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Former guests said the lobby area looked great but once they left the lobby things went rapidly downhill. There are reports that a group of children all got sick after swimming in the pool. When the place shut down after the basement flooded, promised repairs were never made, and eventually the building was condemned by the health department because of the mold. At least one report indicated that the management company is based in China. Another report indicated that the public areas had had extensive renovations approximately 4 years earlier but those renovations apparently did not extend to the guest rooms. Interestingly, the hotel's website is still up and running and gives every appearance of being open for business.... I did not attempt to reserve a room, though.

G'day Rob, another great explore, but I am shocked by the stuff left behind. I could use items seen in my home, it is still that good. The layout was awesome as you said around the pool area, with the gym, the spa and the pool. I feel for the owners who may have had grand dreams of a reopening, but it doesn't look like that will happen. Thanks for taking the time to share. I wonder if any of that alcohol is still ok to consume, being up to code in 2018?

Why was it "condemned"? I would bet money that that was a Holiday Inn originally. Damn shame corporate America waste beautiful places such as these. Its too bad somebody doesn't buy it and turn it in to a "party" hotel. Offer package deals that are super affordable and keep it packed year round. Keep the great abandoned finds coming. I love your content.

@@295g295 That sucks, some of the older buildings are the best, and usually much better built than what is being built these days. The trends always come full circle just like with malls, anyway (started as outdoor, then everyone enclosed them, and now the trend is outdoor again, which I personally hate, but I digress).

Just by the style of the hotel, I can tell this was originally a Holiday Inn built in the '70s. That central area with the pool was a common feature known as the Holidome - a new concept Holiday Inn came up with back then. The parent company of Holiday Inns (IHG Hotels & Resorts) started selling these types of properties off and other chains such as Best Western, Clarion Hotel started picking them up. The only reason Motel 6 would have unloaded this property is that is wasn't profitable. I'm just surprised there's that much liquor leftover. I would have thought for sure somebody would have snagged that...

It looks like the atrium area used to be outdoors. Like the hotel/motel was built in a "U" shape with the pool in the center and the rooms had outdoor entrances. At some point a roof and skylights were added over the pool area to create the atrium.

I am not sure why this is listed as a motel 6, if it was one it had not been for a long time. It was an independent hotel. Probably built as a holiday inn originally.
