    I live near there. Did you even bother to ask anyone why it was abandoned? It actually was never abandoned because no one ever lived there except for maybe the AIS Indians thousands of years ago. Overzealous businessman decided to start expanding Bayside lakes but an unbeknownst to them several endangered animals lived in that area... And in Florida you cannot develop land that is the natural habitat of endangered animals such as the scrub jay, gopher tortoise, and or indigo snake. And the compound happened to have all three. Actually the whole entire county does but it was mostly developed.. before that law fell in place. It is a hotspot for drug activity and recently gang violence. Several bodies have been found out there. I can guarantee that almost every millennial in this county has been out there to party or shoot guns.... It's impossible to get lost out there because Google maps has it charted out perfectly and all the roads lead back to the main road... And realistically you're only a couple miles from the edge of town... They only thing that I could see being paranormal out there is maybe an Indian mound was disturbed but I can almost guarantee you that the lights that people are seeing are from the Grant valkyria executive airport which is less than a mile away.. And most kids are really not allowed to go out there but there's a lot of van life people that have been camping out there, which I really don't recommend because Brevard County is really nice about overnight parking ...in the safe parking lots near the river. The only thing you'd have to worry about out there is dehydration, interrupting a serious drug deal, Florida panther, 6 ft rattlesnake or Florida man.

    Incorrect. Why this sits empty is because BREVARD COUNTY does not own it. People do. See the people that own it were told they could retire here in Florida & build. BUT… That was not true. Because the county rezoned it and started building inner to outer. Once inner is fully developed they will then expand the zoning to that area. With hopes that the people that paid for such promised land will - either be dead sold or couldn’t afford the yearly taxes… It’s how the Counties have accumulated so so much land.

    You also say you can not develop where endangered animals live.. The entire eco system has been in danger for many many many years. They have the same projects being resubmitted from 50 years ago.

    @@nataliam3019No you are incorrect... as I know it all you should have known that the City of Palm Bay actually owns the paved roadways. Of the area’s 2,784 total acres, only 235 acres are City-owned. The privately owned lots have no plans on ever being developed. The area known as The Compound is not zoned as a recreation area open to the public and are currently no plans to revisit the concept of a large-scale ‘GDC-style’ development. Lots of privately owned but due to environmental issues electricity will never be run to the area. FPL will never run electricity therefore it is not habitable ever. The reason FPL will not run electricity is due to the endangered scrub jay. The areas already overpopulated if your theory was correct the areas already full they would have already developed it. You're wrong. I know I'm right. The other development in the area was done before the laws about the scrub jay, gopher tortoise and indigo snake was written into policy. It's very easy to Google the facts You should try it.

    @rickarmstrong9793 Жыл бұрын

    A few points of clarification. The 200 miles of roads you mentioned are the entire GDC project. The compound is just a small part of it. nThe roads were built in the early 70s or before. I know that because in 1975, my mom took me down there to practice driving. Some of the roads were overgrown even then. I was always under the impression that the construction was begun during the "space boom" of the 1960s. I should add the area has been built up quite a bit since then. Back then the exit from I-95 was a pretty desolate place; there was a lone convenience store and that was about it. The police presence is because too many people were using the area for off road vehicles. As you said, the land is privately owned, and the owners didn't take kindly to it being torn up. Also, there is a peculiar little law. If you allow open access to your private property for long enough your property rights can be diminished. As someone else mentioned, it is, or at least was, great for star gazing. I spent many a night out there. But it wasn't always safe. It was not unheard of for smugglers to drop bales from a plane in an area that was outlined by bonfires every 100 yards or so. Or sometimes they just landed the plane to offload the goods.

    Cool video Cor Explorations. I go to the Compound around 3X a week. There are areas where you don't see another soul for miles. I take my dog for walks out there all the time. She loves it because she doesn't need a leash. I also have a project going called "Compound Trash Art." People use the area as a dumping ground and about a year ago I started collecting broken tiles and even large pieces of glass that were laying around in the compound. I use them to create artistic pieces. I'm going to be placing most of my works back out there as a memorial to those who have lost their lives. I enjoyed your video. By the way, I loved your skipping down the road. LOL

    I go out there during the daytime, but it seems it would be a pretty scary place to be alone at night! I took my dog walking down a side road a few weeks ago. There was nobody else around. We walked about a quarter of a mile when she stopped and started looking around like someone else was there. Being female, of course of stopped and glanced all around me. All of the sudden I saw reflections everywhere, like when you point a mirror at the sun, only they were all around me and my dog, I've heard of scary stories people have shared about the compound. That's my story....We ended up walking back to the car and leaving that day.

    I would guarantee you that all of those roads have names just like the rest of the roads in the city do. I would also tell you that the rest of Palm Bay once looked like that area too. We built a house in 1979 in SE Palm Bay off Gulfport rd and the streets were exactly like the roads in the compound now. Once the powers that be get FPL to run power out there people will start building on those lots and the city will slowly re-pave the roads and street signs.

PBPD has a substation out there and the entire plot of land is under heavy surveillance. It’s actually pretty creepy, the police department had military grade surveillance set up like night vision, drones and cameras set up out there back in the late 90’s and even had profiles set up on the people that used to hang out back there.
