Seeing the color of the fuel, I'd be looking at flushing the fuel tank out, and checking the fuel pickup pipe in the tank is'nt blocked. Then check fuel pressure on injector rail and see if its up to spec. Check sparkplugs to they not fouled. Good luck

K- jetronic doesn't have an injector Rail?
Scott, With Bosch K-Jetronic you really need a pressure test set to find out what’s going on. This will tell you if your fuel pump is delivering the right pressure. If your car has a Lamda oxygen sensor, a dwell meter will let you check it’s working and a CO meter helps set the mixture. Pushing down on the sensor plate should cause fuel to be sent to the injectors so that appears to work. You might want to check the WUR (warm up regulator} before attacking the fuel distributor.

Agree, I've had no end of problems with k-jet on early golf gtis, they rely on extremely high pressure to work correctly, the golfs also had an accumulator next to the pump, if that fails you have a nightmare starting them after being stood
@joakimadolfson7210
11 ай бұрын
Scott, Make sure feeding pressure is 5bars at the regulator and test the system by removing the fuel distributor and nozzles and pump and bench test them, (a nice youtube episode on its own) Nozzles do clog up and pumps plus accumulators do go old and loose the ability to hold or build pressure. Another very simple thing you can do it to enrichen the CO by adding a couple of turns on the mixture sqrew on the distributor. This might solve your problem and get it running. (make sure you check clockwise or anti clockwise to enrichen) Once running you can turn the mixture back as the system cleans up. 2 good tech tips i learned the hard way on an k jet porsche :-)
It's nice to hear it pronounced 'solder' again. In the US they say 'sodder', which annoys me :)
@danieldeaseweitzelwalker

I've worked with a Yorkshireman for about the last 6-years now and we rather comedically insult one another for pronouncing words differently. "Solder" has come up before.. And so: The spelling that was derived from the Old French word "soldure", which had Latin origins from the term, "to make solid", the "L" was not pronounced. In modern French, it is spelled "souder" - the "L" was dropped to simplify it. Prior to the 1500s, the English word that came from Old French wasn't usually spelled with an "L" either - it was spelled "soder", which was phonetically accurate. During the 14-16th centuries, its spelling had changed, now with an "L" appearing in the word, leading to its mispronunciation. The word's spelling was changed from "soder" to "solder", but the "L" is indeed silent. Due to the overwhelming number of people who took up the literal "L" several hundred years ago, both are accepted, but in terms of its origins, "sol-der" is technically incorrect. Its etymology, or more accurately, morphology, did not change the pronunciation of the word. On the other hand, the 13th element of the periodic table is indeed "Aluminium", as it was spelled and pronounced with other metallic elements, Titanium, Chromium, Palladium, and so on. The fact that the Western world decided to i-chop the word didn't make it correct. After years of forcing my brain to accept the English pronunciation, I have also accepted that we pronounce it AND spell it incorrectly as "Aluminum". And now back to the carrus. Err, cars!

@@danieldeaseweitzelwalker Very interesting. It took me a while to get used to saying aluminum when I moved to the US, but I can deal with it. One thing I think they got right here is the pronunciation of lieutenant. As a kid, it took me a while to figure out what the British were talking about when they said 'leftenant'. I'd been reading it as 'lieutenant' since the first time I saw it in a kid's comic book.

Solder sleeves have been around for years in the aerospace industry. They were in use when I was an apprentice aircraft electrician in the very early 1970’s. They are brilliant, as they shrink down the solder melts joining the wires plus the coloured bands melt and form an environmental seal with the wire insulation keeping moisture etc out.

That stuff that came out of the injector was pure varnish with dirt. I'd flush the whole fuel system and have a look into the fuel tank. It's probably full of rust?
Would youlike some help to develop a 308 EFI conversion? Get rid of the old mechanical injection. I think it would be a great upgrade for 308 owners. I make EFI components in the UK. Billet fuel rails etc and have made many similar kits.

@@majcrash that's what I meant 😂 but you get my drift...
You know, it’s very easy to assume that someone should have checked the fuse for the fuel pump before doing all that other work, but it is an easy assumption to make then it might’ve been some thing that you had modified. When I bought my GTB, the first time I drove it, I parked did a few other things, and when I came back, the car would not start. I worried that maybe the gas gauge wasn’t accurate, so I bought a gas can and some gas, it still wouldn’t start. So I called a tow truck to bring it home then spend some quality time studying the issue. I drained the fuel tanks, inspected everything about the fuel system and ignition, and eventually realized it was the connection for the fuse for the fuel pump. I too purchased an aftermarket, fuse, panel, and everything has worked better, since the day I installed it. Your efforts at troubleshooting were certainly not wasted because a lot of viewers learned about a lot of steps to troubleshoot an issue like this. Great job! I always enjoy your videos.

Which replacement panel have you ordered? Mine came from Jason, but Birdman makes a great one too!
Take the ignition barrel apart and clean the contacts if you can. My friends car had a problem starting that it wouldnt fire no matter how you cranked it, but when you went to release the key - it would start firing off but was very difficult to 'catch' it just right on the crank to get it to splutter to life. Turned out that the contact connected to the pin that sent voltage to the coil was green with corrosion (probably someone who jumps in the car with a wet key during a heavy downpour and that moisture goes straight into the lock barrel, or maybe even a drink was spilt near the barrel) Anyway - he pulled it apart and gave the terminals a good sand and plenty of contact cleaner, and the first time he went to try it again it started like it's life depended on it!
Even on holidays can't miss a video.
That gas in that glass definitely looked a little murky... The end clip when you break down right before you pull into the driveway....ain't that just how it always goes , good to see it's not just here in the states .

Old dodgy fuse panel def due for an upgrade!
Scott having your arm in the guillotine lift was bugging me out. Going under a car with only a jack is pure insanity. I knew you were alright was the video was on air but golly mate be careful
The ECU- it wouldn’t be the first time that a new or refurbished part was bad. I’ve seen it happen many times...
Always interesting to see a problem unpacked
Great video investigation, interesting as know fault finding is hard but rewarding.
I was sweating watching your arm in the jaws of the Jack 😮
Change the fuel filter if it has one. My R/S turbo ran like a pig, changed the filter and found it to be full of rust. Sorted it instantly.
Seeing your work on earlier electrical gremlins video. I know you’ll discover a resolution. Especially since that generation, electrical fuse panel is yesterday’s bad news. Keeping fingers crossed. 👍
The first thing to check on these 308 is the fuel filter. It tends to clog up and subsequentually the fuel pump, due the increase of current demand, burns the fusebox...This filter is hard to reach and nobody changes it.
Went through this previous owner wiring nightmare on a couple Porsches, feeling your pain. My problem turned out to be a fried wire that wasn’t burned outside and still showed continuity but wouldn’t carry the load consistently.
11:02 Jesus! If that jack colapsed it woud've cut your bloody arm off! 😫😫😫
Good work putting those switches back together so you know how to replace them!
I think your problem comes from the lock installed under the front bumper. it is an anti theft system. I saw this 20 years ago installed on a 1982 Trans Am. Apparently, it was a nightmare to remove because it was wired everywhere to the ignition, fuse box and so on. The car was running really bad but once out the car was running great. So look at that lock follow the wires. It might be that.
Dash is cracked hope Scott is going to fix that as well
Good job.
Perseverance always wins in the end Scott, I knew you’d get there in the end 👍
It’s not like Italian cars to have electrical issues 😉 Keep up the good work mate, look forward to the next video.
When are you going to make all down the side of the shed a carport? Be such a benefit keeping cars out of the weather some more.
love the look of th 308
I would use a soldering iron and tin to repair the fuse box. Tin the riveted connections. I've done it so many times, it always works.
Yo dude, I’m thinking the fuel metering unit(fuel distribution) is the problem here. Got to be worth a strip and clean? Buzzin to see it finished as we all know there’s a pretty special project in the pipeline😉
Ferrari’s always been about passion, and that’s still true today whether it be the ultra wealthy or adults making their teenage dreams come true. Nice work yet again!
Hey Scott watching this video when you swapped coils it gave the appearance of the timing being advanced i would be doing tests on the cam and crank angle sensors the resistace could be out or dirty and also check the wiring to them also check their grounds
Bin most of the original system, get a cheap ECU , maybe something like an Emerald, put some coils on top of the spark plugs, take it to a dyno . Will save you money and time and be a better car for it .

Fit old ecu back in, after fixing wiring issue you left new ecu in. Try old ecu again
Double check the new injectors are the same CC as the old ones. Otherwise what the ECU thinks it is sending isn't what it really is sending.
That car looks like an absolute nightmare. But, I’ve loved watching every minute.😅
Thanks for the 20 off on the connectors, just ordered the 500 piece. Hey, couldn’t you have just tested for fuel pressure opening up the fuel line from the pump to see if it had pressure or perhaps put a fuel gauge on it? Might have saved you two ECU’s. Also, replace the fuse panel, those things are junk.
hope that solderstick company aren't claiming they invented them..they've been around since the early 80s.. Raychem used to make them for cable earth pigtails...they are good though !
I can't remember if you checked all the fuel pressures (control pressure cold/warm and fuel pressure cold/warm). If not, that would be the first on my list.

cis injection is very simple. if the car sat long, good chance the barrel valve in the fuel distributor ( what the fuel injector lines attach to) its most likely sticking from old fuel varnish. you do not on this car need to crank it to have the injectors fire ( which could cause a fire) simply depress the airflow metering plate gently and it will fire the injectors...it will also tell you how smooth the barrel valve in the fuel distributor is working. it should be smooth and silky. if not it will have running issues. the barrel valve is acted on by the lever attached to the plate. the plate, depressing it moves the barrel upwards against the control pressure of the system as set by the warmup regulator.( the feed line to the fuel distributor) the barrel valve has grooves in it and they pass fuel to the injector feeds. the injector feeds have a o ring sealed(and a spring and ball sometimes) valve that regulates the flow to the lines, this has a screw to preload the flow or adjust it....( dont mess with it unless you get seriously patient and count the turns they have in them or have a set of measured pipets to flow all the injectors ( remember its all or none going, Continuous injection and all ) there is a good chance that simply removing the fuel distributor from the air box and using an ultra sonic cleaner on it ( complete, not disassembled) it may be fixed, i have had great success with that. hope this helps any vintage vw shop should be able to help with things you dont have ( think 70's and 80's golf mechanic can help you ) sorry for the long reply
You're making quite a bit of progress. I was thinking, maybe the fuse block was faulty before. Pretty common issue on those cars. It makes me wonder if the ECU was fine the entire time. Either way you'll have it sorted and back on the road soon.
Please always use a jack stand when you put your body under the car. You make us nervous testing with just the jack in place.
Don't use that connectors. They are low melt solder. Any heat on that wire and you chasing the faults again. Do it the right way.
When do we get an episode on the darn F40?
I would remove all the aftermarket - safety key stuff.. Created startup problems with my car. Back in the days, these alarm system had quite an amount of wiring and normally they switch off fuel pumps or ignition.
i think you have ground cable problem. check cables around ecu and areas you done something recently.

man, the k or ke jetronic injection does not inject any gas when you try to start without airintake hose!!
@franklinmaurer8383
11 ай бұрын
I was hoping someone else caught this. The hose from the distributor to the throttle body had to be on. The vacuum in that intake and hose lifts the injection plate which gives fuel to the injectors.
If that fuel has been in there for a while that won’t help with the running as modern fuel goes off really quickly, I put some month old fuel in my jag and it ran really badly, smoking misfiring and stalling.!
