Abandoned City of Cairo, Illinois

Cairo, Illinois, a city of just 1,700 residents today, sits between the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers in Southern Illinois. Once prosperous and home to nearly 15,000 people in the 1930s, Cairo has experienced a long decline. Founded in the 1830s, the city initially thrived after the Civil War. But starting in the mid-1900s, economic decline and racial tensions drove most residents away, leaving behind many abandoned yet beautiful buildings and vintage homes that serve as haunting reminders of Cairo's more prosperous past.

That music is so sad. I remember as a kid visiting my grandparents there for the summers. Those used to be some fun times. Things were so vibrant and peaceful in those days. I will never forget this coffee cake from this one bakery there. It used to be near a Piggly Wiggly. I can still taste the butter and caramel from it as it was served hot.

Perhaps, in another dimension, the town is still vibrant and full of life. *Sad, yet peaceful.*

It's sad, and cool that abandonned town is clean, without graffitis for example. It's like Japanese abandonned town :)

Why is it being made to seem like nobody at all lives in Cairo? That place has a horrifying history, but so do many places in Illinois unfortunately.

We must talk about and grip the reality of the common thread of what caused this and stop looking for people that say they are a victim in all of this I’m sick of it. I’m sick of the bullshit. I’m sick of the fake history and I’m sick of the lies.
