Abandoned 1990 Mercedes 230ce - Will I be able to get this one running and driving in a day??!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is the second of the two Mercedes Benz that I bought together, after the blue one (now named Pita) got off to a very difficult start, will this one behave better or worse?
Hit the subscribe button for the next installments of these very interesting old cars and please leave me a comment and let me know if you enjoyed the video!
Huge thanks to my good mate Teddy White for the music featured - check him out at / @teddywhite9854

Great to see abandoned cars brought back to life especially a Mercedes!
Honestly one of the most chilled and best restore videos I've seen in ages. Informative, funny, fun to watch. You remind me of vice grip garage on youtube.... very similar content but you had me hooked. Excellent video and deffo worth my sub!

Thanks Scott that's very nice of you to say! Who is this Vice Grip Garage? I'm joking I love Derek he's a legend - A dream of mine is one day to have him come to Europe and do a team resurrection on something big and i'll go do one in the states and drive it to a port to be shipped back here, one day maybe!

Exactly what I thought but not with shite American cars. Apart from the Ambassador... but hey, how many of those do you see at your car shows?
top of that engine almost looks like it was on fire at one time! lol
Hey great to see this abandoned Merc brought back to life 😊
Great job!! This old boy needs just a little love and care and will ride again!! Old Benz never dies!!
You are a great presenter who could liven up any topic. A joy to watch and listen to. What a great dad you would have been? Love the torturous auto journeys you endure with typical British resolve and good humour. A real tonic. Bravo!!
The rattling at very low revs made me very suspicious of one (or more!) cylinders not firing/timing!
I love these videos as it’s not just me pxssing up a wall struggling…… and your work is at my level…. And I’m local in Northwich! Cheers
What a find! Where has this channel been hiding? Your knowledge is brilliant, I love seeing old cars brought back from the brink, as a mechanical numpty, I enjoy watching what I can’t do😂😂😂 Thank you please keep going and I’ll pass your channel on too.
Great fun. I've driven nothing but old W124 230e's for the last eighteen years. They're not fast or exciting but they look pretty, they're comfy and tough as old boots. This year I bought a 230CE for a change. Regretting it already 😂. Best of luck with yours!

haha, they are beautiful cars shame it was rotten as a pear!
Mercs of this age are bully proof. I had one that had so many niggling little things. Fixed them all 6 months before I sold it and the thing looked like it was Fred Flinstones learner car - drove like butter. So smooth it was unreal.
You can roll by turning the tyres! Try it in the garage, too when you don't want to (can't) start anything. Saves the panels from getting dented or other damage to lights, windows, etc. Also works great for heavy motorcycles.
Thank you for the video. I enjoy seeing cars that aren't necessarily economically viable repairs being brought back to life and returned to service. I know there is a financial breakpoint where it doesn't make sense, but things we are passionate about don't always make sense.

Yes this was a real treat to watch an old classic brought back to life, but unfortunately with the EV Brigade it might get another 10/15 years on the road. In Ireland we’re this machine started it’s life the “greens” are doing the absolute best to rid these machines. A real pity.
Love it you had me hooked with the " im just going to adjust this gap with a flat head screwdriver and weeks of training" hahah and yea i think a Collab with you and Derek would be great.
Love the Mercedes. My favorite model of Mercedes. The video was amazing. Just listening to her trying to wake up was cool.

When the thing giving you most concern is the wiper blade 😁
Really enjoyed watching this brought memories back for me as I owned 2 in the early 80s
The fact that it was able to run on 2 cylinders says its a good motor..Loving these vids, new happy subscriber here mate.
Loved the drive with the sun shining, music, the car - That Merc will have a lot more days like that thanks to you - Great save !
I do like your inthusiasm. It's contagious. 😂. I'm in the process of an overhaul, changing suspension and steering parts loving it.😊❤
Yeah with old cars especially with many past keepers you never know what's missing.
Nice looking car. Deserves a full restoration
I've just subscribed to this channel after being impressed with the very funny 'Austin Ambassador A reg' rescue video. That Merc is a very nice car. These smooth, fast Mercedes coupes are very rare now. It's also very similar to the 'Bismerc' that used to be on the Number 27 channel.
Jeremy Clarkson doesn't entertain like this, I have only discovered your channel today and already I am hooked!
1:02:06 👏👏👏 Yeah that was *barely* running on 2 😄 Great job
Actually, it's just the C that means coupe, the E is for "einspritzung" which is german for "injection". Hence for instance the carburetted W123 230C vs this W124 230CE :)

Good knowledge!
I absolutely think it's brilliant that you tale these old classics and not only get them running , you then get them cleaned up and try to polish them right up and make them Road worthy and it's extremely amazing that they all seem to run awesome and it make me wonder just how insane it is that they went derelict in a wrecking yard somewhere or sat in an old barn or shed for 10 to 30 years ! Sad that people just don't want to take a minute to figure it out and to have it fixed so throw it away !?!?! I'm sorry but some of these cars are worth a pretty penny after you spent a week or so in them , ay ! Great for you though 😮😂 people here in the States do the same thing to their cars here to so........
Thanks great vid, I said to my son "the plug leads are in the wrong order" but you got there well done. Also noted that in the servo you pulled forward to the second pump, that's good manners.👍
Enjoying your videos. They're fun and informative. One thing about this one is it's very long. You could have done it in two parts over two weeks - which also gives you double viewers for your youtube stats/payments.

Looks like that Merc came from Prentice in Omagh Northern Ireland. they moved to Portadown a long time ago. Love these old Merc videos, just discovering your channel, great content!
I do love these old mercs the 190 will be the one to concentrate on these seem to be rising in value,i still see a few around and they seem to go on forever. Most of the ones i see around look to still be in great condition .I love the 230ce as well but no doubt better to sell it if it needs a lot of money spending .

On each of the hood hinges, there is a sprung button that will allow the hood of the car to stand completely vertical and locks into place. 👍

Hi, I have just started watching your channel after a friend recommended your content. I love watching all kinds of auto repair/restoration videos so I've scrolled all the way back down to the end of the list to watch all of your content, and I'm loving it. Great video mate, i had a e280 saloon back in the day until i wrote it off, great old motors very well built, theres a button on the dash that drops the rear headrests. proper class.
First off, I'm in the USA and just recently discovered your channel. I've been catching up on your catalog of videos. I am very much enjoying them. Especially the Panhard. Great series. No one in America narrates an automobile revival like you do. How did you get a left hand drive Ford pickup in UK? I haven seen a video on it . Maybe I just haven't found it. Anyway, looking forward to getting caught up and watching the new ones as they come out. 👍
carry on doing these, enjoying a brit version of VGG with cars we can identify with.
Quite a nice motor that. Would be great if it had a Carphone on a cord lol proper early 90s geezers car lol

Over the years in the UK the local councils have been obsessed with installing traffic calming measures like narrowing of roads to make them more pedestrian friendly and installing speed bumps everywhere ,closing of roads and what seems to be a endless epidemic of roadworks. The UK is no longer a place to enjoy motoring
Nice car, it has only one issue.. someone put the steeringwheel in the wrong side 😂 Ironi may appear 😂 I see my self out

Hi Ben, I have been watching all your videos from the start and really enjoy your presenting, i was in tears laughing when the rear end fell out of that Austin 1300 and the other car ripped in half getting towed out. My question is, on this video at 1 hour 12 min 30 sec you have some funky guitar music playing, i'm just wondering who is it? band etc P.S, my all time favorite car was a Triumph 2000 MK2 i had in the 1980s, great times :)
who's going to tell him that tha bonnet opens wider... ? ;) that plug lead resting on the valve cover is giving me anxiety...

I wish I had your get up and go to get my 1992 K reg 200TE with the same M102 engine back on the road, which has been off the road for nigh on 4 years. But she needs thousands spent on her with welding alone, including the rear subframe mounts which have gone some what Wi-Fi 😂. Is it me? Or you the UK equivalent of Derek Bieri from Vicegrip garage?! Which I oddly found you as a suggestion after watching his channel?
Hi Ben. You can roll an auto in N, but for mechanical sympathy just not very fast. Pushing's fine.
You are definitely the English Vice Grip Garage.. but better. You speak English not American. Love the vids pal. Keep it up
Yeah that early nineties Ford or Mercedes is a little bit of a wreck but that Gray Tudor Mercedes kind of a cool looking car. And it runs good does need a lot of work a little bit of body work and some cleaning. That would be the one I'd fix up. And everything works except for the passenger side rear passenger window school car Oh yeah by the way I enjoy your content from canada And the mid seventies ford f one hundred cool truck see quite a few of them around in my country
