I STARTED MY 300ZX FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 9 YEARS

Welcome to the 2nd instalment in my abandoned 300ZX rebuild series! In this video, I'm going to attempt getting it started after 9 years of sitting untouched on a driveway. Something tells me this project is going to take me quite a while...

Good to see she's alive! Don't stress about the head gasket, the engine bay is very overwhelming but once you take its makeup off its not actually too bad.

Welcome to the joys of Z ownership. Hopefully you have a good place to pull the motor and place it on a stand so you can strip it down. Runs really well despite the bad head gasket.

At fist I thought you owned it and let it sit for 8 years, but I see its a project car you bought. Good save

on first start with fresh petrol it dosen sound as if need new spark plugs or injectors do need some time running with a cleaner through the gas tank so all carbon / rust can be cleaned off the injectors and they can have a clean and even spray pattern

Great vid. I had a similar issue with one exhaust was clear but the other was smoking. We took it apart it was piston rings. Good luck with build.

first start in 9 years, def bad fuel and youre lucky!!! most cars sat that long have injectors that are all stuck, and fuel hanger all rusted out frm fuel spoiling. i had a customer car sat for 7 years, tank was so rusted the wires off the pump fell off the hanger and were free floating live power inthe tank. i was wondering why it wouldnt prime. scary shit. thankfully all fixed now. even the rings in the piston were frozen in place so compression was shit, i let atf sit in cylinders for a week, that plus hand cranking motor freed rngs, had to clean injectors. finally got motor runing good. took so many systems being serviced or replaced.

Really looking forward to the next episode. Also always connect the positive before you connect the ground. It didn't short out because you left the ignition on

It wasn't that you left the key in the ignition or even on you connected both the positive and negative terminals at the same time and tried to tighten them The proper way is to put the positive cable on first and tighten it then do the ground you will never have that happen

Are you completely sure the wet bank is head gasket related? I'm asking because I'm having mine worked on at the moment. I've ended up buying new injectors, coil packs, new plugs (the list could go on) but the garage working on it are adamant my head gaskets are fine yet my exhaust is wet too on the same side. It's ultimately running too "rich" at the moment and pushing out more fuel to air ratio. My 300 project has been paused for now, but only because the garage that has it also build race cars and they've taken priority more recently as it's season

I'm 100% sure it's the gasket, there is literally no other way it couldn't be. If you've bought all of that stuff and it's still wet I could only suggest the gasket and the garage are trying to swerve the job, as it's an absolute pain in the backside. Have you done a compression test of chemical test from the radiator? That should tell you right away whether or not the exhaust fumes are being pushed back into the rad... which means you have definitely got a blown gasket. They're not expensive to buy and will tell you right away:)

@@Joshcharlton13 This is what I've currently had done: •New injector set (370cc) •New injector wires •Set of new coil packs •New NGK Platinum Spark Plugs •Smoke tested •Pressure tested •Silicone hose kit (Silicon Coolant Pipes / Silicone Booster Pipes / Silicone Breather Pipes / Silicone Ancillary Pipes) •Auxiliary Belts (2) •New Thermostat •New Mishimoto Radiator •Coolant flush and top up •Vacuum Pipe O' Rings •Reset TPS to 0.48v and adjust idle speed to 750rpm •Complete Head Gasket Kit (not all of it was used) •Throttle Bodies balanced Plus a host of loosening and lubricating of other components too. All other wires have been tested for corrosion but are fine. Despite all of the above, it continues to run too rich on idle only. But the moment it's revved, it instantly disappears. There's no performance air filter on, only the standard air box. The garage is more than prepared to do any job that's required, but only if it needs doing in the first place.
