Abandoned 1984 Nissan 720 Pickup Parked for 18 years! Will it run?!? Datsun Mini Truck!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I went to a farm auction with a fleet of squarebody Chevys. But they all had the 6.2 diesel! AND went for way more than I wanted to spend! So I couldn't' come home with an empty trailer! I picked up this 1984 Nissan 720 mini truck! It's got the 2.4l 4 cylinder with 8 spark plugs! And a 5 speed manual overdrive transmission! Lets see if we can get this thing to breath fire once again! I plan on using the Nissan drivetrain on a Model T touring project that'll probably never happen! As always, thanks much for watching!

We had an 1986 Toyota pickup that was my wifes, when she was in college. Drove that truck forever, got great mileage , could haul anything, and even had a camper shell and could sleep in the camper. it was a 4 speed, 2.4 liter 4, and I wish it would have had 5th (overdrive). finally got rid of it when clutch was shot at 191,000 miles. now looking back, I should have gotten new clutch, and I would have been good to 375000 miles.

The beds used to perforate in around three years in the salt belt. The rest of the 720's were solid trucks. Love the z24. The 85-87 were less rust prone, and eventually became electro injected. Double roller timing chain shows the build quality of these engines.

I’ve got an 85 with the fuel injection. Inherited it from my grandfather who lived in California. Resealed with valve cover (it was pissing oil to the tune of a puddle every 10 minutes), replaced suspension bushings and added leaf helpers. Done a ton of other odds and ends, but it runs like a top. Best yet, I get between 22-25mpg in it. Cool truck.

the Sunny was a B210 station wagon, and the "ute/truck" with the little A-series engine in it (usually) like the 210 wagon. A-14 or A-15 aren't huge for power but they're silly reliable, easy to work on, cheap for parts it seldom wants. jetted and tuned can give 40-41 mpg if you're nice to it.

Good pickup Mort. (See what I did there?) The Z24 USDM (two plugs per cyl for emissions control) is a rock solid motor especially once you get rid of the janky carb and 38 miles of vacuum nonsense. The "two different plugs" setup was used by Mazda on RX7's (leading and trailing plugs) although for a much different reason than the Datsun. Port the heads, swap in a hot cam, a good header, and put a 4 barrel Weber on there and she will really wake up and go, especially since this one is already on the Tinworm Weight Reduction Diet.

I used to have a red '84 2WD 5M long bed. I got it for free from a family member and it had a ton of rust, but it was still a solid truck. I loved mine. The fuel filter in the glove compartment was probably a factory add on. I needed to keep one in my glove at all times. The $4 fuel filter needed to be changed about every 4 months, but it was an easy side-of-the-road fix. It was finally the transmission, at 160K, that needed to be replaced, which got me to say goodbye to it. I regret that decision. It would have given me a few more years of fun.

Love the vid @Mortske I have a 86 4x4 myself, was a handmedown from my father, he bought it used in 92 and drove it daily until it was parked in 2012 with 220k miles. After 2 years of working on the truck and finding parts for it it's now my daily driver and first vehicle, those little z24 engines can pump out 300k miles or more before they give up. If I were you i'd keep it around, these little 720's are hard to come by, atleast in NC. EDITE: BTW if you're looking for a set of new headlights for the truck I got lucky and found the entire headlight assembly on Amazon for like $45.
