I did a follow up video with the truck and sent some ATF thru the carb to see if we can’t lube some internals. Also find some compression on #2 cylinder 👍🏻 Check it out on the channel!

I bought a 87f350 in a field five years back.. before I hooked my nurse tank, I sprayed two cans of carb cleaner thru it. Poor 460 had so much shellac in heads and intake, it dun the ole girl a world of good. I had the thermostat open before I hooked gas to the carb. Thanks for sharing Puddin🙏😁👍

What happens is the rings stick when parked so long. Get it to fire on the starting fluid then it will run on gas once the rings get freed up. Cleans the valve seats and the compression will go up. The positive lead to that coil is a resistance wire. Good on ya man getting grandads truck going.

When ever you’re trying to start a motor that big it requires a lot more gas than what you’re attempting to put in it. I would start by filling the football and then adding some gas that would make that 460 Mighty happy🏁

My 1984 Ford F150 with the 351 Windsor H.O motor has me gapping my plugs at .044. Not too sure what the gaps on a hog of an engine that you have might be but I'd figure the gap should be bigger than the smaller engine. Just going to make an edit here and state I just got to the part of the video where you found the gaps setting. Still find it interesting that the gaps are the same as my smaller engine.

It's was the 300 straight 6 with a 3 speed with granny gear tho, had one of those big flat bug shield too, with a green little Kilroy peaking over the top. If u don't know who Kilroy is google "Kilroy was here" . He had a slide in camper with a trailer and we went to tractor shows too. He had 3 silver kings and a 1936 farmall F-12 and 2 john deere 110 lawn tractors that we used to drive around the flea markets and everything. I'm from Ohio and I haven't heard of anyone else mention or been to a tractor show in years.

Right off the bat I heard that engine is tighter than a preachers prick in a calf’s ass, I had a 460 that was tight like that one and the spark was erratic AF. The early Ford electronic ignition stuff is weird and varies vehicle to vehicle. For instance your '83 F-250 has a magnetic pickup coil in the distributor and is carbureted with vacuum advance. I have an '83 Lincoln Mark VI, 302, fuel injected, no pickup coil, electronic advance, distributor is basically a hollow tube with the rotor. There's a crank position sensor in the side of the block that acts as a pickup coil. '80-'83 Lincolns and '83 Ford/Mercury had this set up. '79-'82 Ford/Mercury was 2 barrel with a similar set up to the trucks. '84-'85 was still throttle body injected but had a pickup coil and instead of the fender mounted ignition module it was on the distributor. '86+ was the sequential fuel injection. I always thought it was kind of funny Lincoln had fuel injection in 1980, and I've seen '91 Cadillacs with factory quadrajets. All full sized Fords had sequential injection by '86, and the Vortec engines didn't have true sequential injection until they did away with spider injectors in 2008!

All I did to get that truck running besides fresh oil/gas was fuel pump and a battery! Still driving the truck with 120,000 miles..love these trucks!

@@PuddinsFabShop if you want to youll get er sqared away need to get the carburetor all redone get your ignition components straightened out make sure you ain't got no plugs that are fouling because of a valve guide or bad rings or whatnot make sure she's got compression and every cylinder and I'll tell you from experience depending on which way you want to go keep it all factory or maybe put an aftermarket cab on it of some kind or even a newer fuel injection system take that distributor and crank some initial timing in it up way high like time her by ear buzzer down the road and whale on the throttle until it pings and then back her off a tad I assure you it will liven her up like you wouldn't believe.... But on the other hand maybe a grandpop parked her for a reason maybe cuz she's got a few hundred thousand on her and is just spanked to the max anyhow though it's just fun to get them running again heck 20 years ago my dad threw together an old 340 for his 69 barracuda together with intention to take her to the drags a few times and go take it to emissions and get the title squared away and get it plated and what wound up happening was we took her to the drags off the trailer and went I think it was 11:30 which in around 1996 I think it was got the local track all in a buzz cuz it just had a lap belts no roll cage or safety equipment they was about to make us load it up so they could run us off and I said hey how about we just dial the throttle linkage back so it wouldn't get full throttle he said as long as we don't go any faster than 12 flat at the time they'd let us keep racing and so we did but we went to the track three or four more times wound up breaking the pressure plate now it's sat ever since again 20 something years few weeks ago I fired it up needless to say sure is fun with a 318.duration 600.lift mushroom flat tappit camshaft and the headers still open a virtual hornets nest of neighbors coming to investigate whats shaking their windows .... It's just something lovely bout doing that..... I'm watching your video inspired me I think it's time to go ahead and get her up in the air & put the new clutch disc and pressure plate in it because the car is an absolute riot to drive I imagine with some M&h racemasters & a good exhaust system the car probably run 10.50 normally aspirated so thanks for the inspiration it's about time to get out and terrorize North Phoenix with some Mopar music LOL... Thanks again have a good day and God bless

I believe that those old engines had press in studs for the rockers and when a valve sticks the pushrod will literally pull that sud out of the head a bit while using the rocker for leverage and it could be why you have no compression in that one cylinder the valve could be stuck open a little bit and that would also explain why it was spitting back out the intake also check for bent pushrods

Just found you so subscribed because of the well thought/editing job, videoing was real good as well ..... coming from a 73 year old mechanic/ford kind of guy/kid, one time and never outgrew it. I just never had any luck with them when I was racing and it liked to took off my right foot when a flywheel came through the scatter shield and lite my imagination on fire. I went back to my big block engines and raced everyone of them. Ford motor company sponsored a double overhead cam 427 for all my races in one year. A good blast of either while cranking is alright for a little while or to keep running but it washes the oil off the cylinders and lowers compression so it can get cantankerous so if its trying and not quite there, try some regular engine oil and some gas so its real thin or more gas by far than oil and you raise the cetane lever and heat so that it will keep going. I can tell that you do know what your doing.... most are doing something that gets them off moms couch,. Keep em coming as I 'll be watching for you
