It's the day to day trials and errors/accomplishments that keep me watching...i don't need to be constantly entertained with " cutting edge- breaking ground" revelations. Just be Dylan McCool collecting and working on cars, trucks, the shop or whatever. Always be genuine and don't apologize for nothing short of that. I'm a Mopar guy just looking to hang out with other like-minded group of guys (or gals) and getting inspired to tackle my own projects.....your doing a great job keep doing what you do!

I love the look of your Charger as is! Fix the pans and trunk floor, just patch the rusty corners on the fenders, then just flat clear over the car after cleaning the paint. I think Freiburger showed on a Roadkill Garage Extra using Commet and a sponge to clean old paint and preserve the patina. This car would look just awesome with the patina! Maybe do some type of NASCAR theme like your Dad's Petty Truck. Reach out to Graveyard Carz. Send them a photo of your fender tag to see if they can help you decode it. Hate to break it to you but that is a Tick Tock Tach. The clock is the small set of numbers in the middle and the tach is the outer set of numbers. Right now it appears to be stuck at 5100 RPM. The small light in the center is the high beam indicator. The hazards should be flashing the turn signal indicators. The 4 small gauges are temp, fuel level, alternator, and oil pressure. The small speakers on the dash are for the AM/FM radio to give the appearance of right and left channels when listening to FM stereo. That wasn't a popular option back in the day when $100 would get you a 440 and disc brakes. Nice find. I haven't seen a '69 Charger in that good a shape (metal wise) in ages....

A couple of weeks ago I decoded the fender tag on my 1971 Dart, and it came up with a high optioned car (Most likely A/C) but no power brakes/windows, and no reverse lights. It used to be the same color as your Charger, but now it's about 8 different shades of primer

Your video reminds me of a song that was sung about Forty years ago by Willy Nelson that goes something like this "You picked a fine time to leave me Loose wheel!"

Your VIN should start out with XP29G9B. That means it's a Charger, Premium class, 2 door, sports roof car. It has a 383 2 bbl, made in 1969, and assembled in the Hamtramick plant in Detroit. I'm pretty sure it would not have been assembled in the St. Louis plant. Check with dodgecharger.com. They are the national registry and will help you. Get them the VIN also, so they can register the car as another found. Ask me things and I can help. I am with the registry and have experience with that exact car. I owned one for almost 10 years.

Hey man i love your passion.. and i know my comments are probably a bit late for the video but i think that its important that a young man like yourself take care of your health when working on these old cars.. i'm talking about Asbestos.. anything made before 1985 is likely to have at least half a dozen items on the car that has dangerous Asbestos fibers.. anything from old brake shoes and pads to old gaskets and even parts of the interior.. So. avoid making any dust.. use protective clothing , gloves and the correct dust mask.. if you need to make dust try to use the proper dust mask and a fine mist water spray to keep the dust down.. change your clothing after you finish working with dust and before you go back into the house with your family.. keep children well away from the work .. i can with certainty say that all the old brakes and gaskets would very likey have asbestos in them.. when disposing them.. spay a fine water mist on them..avoid making dust put them in a plastic bag and seal it up.. These old cars are great fun but they can also be a ticking timebomb on your health if you don't take the precaution.. do your research..good luck you have a great channel..

Reverse lights work!

That looks like the right dual exhaust, I had a set of those mufflers on my Ford Galaxie when I bought it from my uncle who is a MOPAR guy. But it sounds like you have the right idea on looking up all the numbers on the mufflers.

Did brake upgrades late last summer using CPP kit, went together well and seem to work ok so far.

There are Wilwood disc conversion kits for the 1969 Charger.

Awesome car !! I had a 1969 S/E . It had front disc brakes.... rare for the car/year. I had no brakes for over a year because I couldn't find a stupid rubber gasket to replace the blown out one in the booster. That was about 22 years ago, hopefully there are more repro parts being made these days. GOOD LUCK with your Charger !

383 4 barrel cars usually had dual ex , 2 barrel cars were single along with the 318 and slant 6 cars . miss my chargers now

On the rear drum that you took off, it looks like there are two different types of brake shoe in there, the rear one has the friction material riveted on but the front one appears to be a later style of shoe with the friction material bonded to the metal which suggests this car has seen some shoe-string repairs. On the rear shoe the friction material is worn past the point where the rivets would have been contacting the drum, so that drum is almost certainly beyond the point of potentially reusing. With the rear shoe being riveted it is almost certain that that shoe has asbestos-based friction material so you really need to be wearing a suitable dust mask while working on those brakes as inhaling as few as a handful of asbestos fibres can lead to developing asbestosis in later life. Asbestos-free friction material and bonded friction material came in on light vehicles at about the same time which rather helps in differentiating, though heavy vehicles continued to use riveted brake shoes where just the friction material is replaced with new being riveted to the existing metal unless it is damaged continued to be used more or less to date...

When you pull out the motor and transmission make sure you check the numbers to see if they are the original to the car and if so, make sure you took that away in a corner somewhere and don't forget about it. If for some reason down the road you decide to sell the car you will get a lot more for it if you include the original engine and transmission

That's a pretty well optioned car. AC, PS, PB, PW, SE interior, center console, dual mirrors and factory 383 hp. Not sure about those mini side speakers. 383 2v cars were vin code G if memory serves. I won't swear to it, but I believe the std 383 330hp 4v code was H and the optional 335 hp 383 was J.. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong..Since you were asking about the exhaust, I gotta say no on is it OE. The factory turn downs on non chrome tipped cars did an S curve, not just a turn down. I've also been told that the factory mufflers on dual exhaust cars were purposely dented in at the rear from the factory for whatever reason... Hoping that 8 3/4 is still ok, if not they are easy to rebuild and strong as heck! Have fun!

Factory duals without chrome tips had the "S" turn down ends. The notch on mufflers as I understand it, was too clear the e-brake cable.

Idk y, but the sound of sped up hammering for some reason always makes me chuckle.😂 Also, if you really want that Charger to keep its resale (somewhere down the road, however unlkely) I wouldn't blame you for NOT sellin it. Keep that factory engine in it.. Yea of course tear it down, clean it up & rebuild it. But cuz that 383 is what came with it, it'll be worth a boat load of money to those OEM folks.😉 I know I DON'T have the budget for a beast car like that, my hats off to ya. I've got me an '87 Chevy G-20 Sport Van, I'm plannin to 4x4 swap, lift & turn into a budget rv.. He was born just South of the rust belt in Tennessee!!😉

Congratulations! Not bad shape. Good find. Careful what you buy for it. Cause its a big hole to fill with cash. Ive done my whole car at low budget. Except i finally put money into engine. Mine has 9.5 static compression. And my 292 duration cam with .480 lift at valve gets me about 440 h.p. and 460 torque at block. Of course all the exhaust intake etc. Make a difference too!

On the contrary, I don't think these videos with alot of talking are boring at all. I find it really interesting to see the ol' gal "rise from the dead" and listening to all the work that goes into making that happen.

Get the classic industry Mopars catalog. Wildcat Mopars salvage in Oregon I bought a pillow for my Duster.

If I'm ever lucky enough to get one of these Chargers, I'll take that thing apart piece by piece and by the time it's back together it'll be brand new condition. Anything that can be upgraded to a modern performance replacement will be, brakes, gauges, everything. I'll leave it as stock as possible and still be reliable and perform like a new modern car.

Really Dylan this needs a full resto, everywhere you look on needs a damn good going over! Don,t know why you would not change rear brakes to disc,s rather than fit new drums.

While it's jacked up why not check the gear ratio and does it have a Sure-Grip axle? You have the makings of a real nice Charger. Thanks for the videos.

My '74 dodge coronet, deferential acted up, so they ended up getting an entire axle (posi-traction was the bonus) as they said the brakes were bad too, from a fury. The dash, will it be pulled and almost rebuild on its own .. I had no air in my Coronet and it was fine with the pull vents. BTW .. those drum brakes in the rear .. they made a HUGE difference, I almost put myself through the windshield on the drive home from the shop.

I hope that the lose wheel on the rear is the reason that the tire wobbles... it could be axle bearings or even a bent axle if you find that tightening does not resolve the wobble

There shouldnt be a light in the center between the tach and speedo. Thats supposed to be a screw hole location for the bezel face. Also, in case you wondering, the little gauges that are too blurry to read are: fuel, temperature, oil pressure, and alternator. Not sure if you have done so in a previous vid, but if you could share the fender tag that'd be cool.

The light in the middle of your dash that you thought might be a hazard light could be for your high beam headlights. Normally when you turn on your hazard lights, both your left and right signal flashers we'll come on

That's what I thought, but the wiring is probably messed up it turned on the high beam light.

Does your Charger have a name? I think you need to name her (or him, your choice!) Something this beautiful should not be referred to as "it" or "thing"! Love the vids!

I bought the disc brake conversation kit from jegs. Believe it or not wasn't a bad kit for the money

Are you gonna swap the transmission for a manual one?

Are you going to be using Auto Metal Direct parts on the Charger instead of pulling a floor pan out of another?

Are you sure that the engine in this Charger is a low compression one? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Maybe if you give the engine a good bath by hand it would help you to see what's up. I don't envy your task with the wiring. It looks like a team of Bubbas went to town on it. I always liked that green. Are you going to keep it that colour? The gauges will probably need a re-build. Do you have another rear end in the parts horde that can be fitted with 11" brakes and limited slip? Thanks for the video.

I like it. A project but a worthy one.

All Charger's from 68-70 had a 150 mph speedometer...Tic Toc Tac was an option.. Wood Wheel was an option for Charger's.. If it was a factory 383 Magnum car they came with duel exhaust.. 383 4bbl cars were not the high performance engine and could be had with single exhaust or duel exhaust.There is not just a 5 hp difference like the books say lol... You said it has a non original 383 2bbl and was a factory high performance 383 car,so it was the 383 Magnum (orange block for 69 the blue block 383 4bbl wasnt high performance)..Again different than a 383 4bbl and thats different than a 383 magnum. LOVE YOUR CAR ! You can make a low compression 440 go fast,you just need cam and head work..stock,no.. My 505 runs 11's at 133 mph with 3.23 gearing and the engine looks 100% stock as does the car ! It isnt high compression its stock 10.25:1 and runs on pump gas ! Its not an 11 ,12 or 13 compression,I always thought that was unnecessary ... Remember stock low compression 400 4bbl can run high 13's with 3.23 gearing in 72 - on Mopars,I had them when almost new ! My low compression 71 383 Road Runner also ran upper 13's the one time I took it out and the 72 - on 440's were quicker..But nothing like the pre 71 440's,383's etc..... Also old recorded times wee bogus as 195 / 75 series 14 inch bias ply tires didnt hook and they didnt have the compounds like today at the track,if a drag track was used most were side streets and parking lots..So they spun 1/8 th of a mile,plus 250 plus pounds of test equipment in the trunk and for most,2 people in the car !

According to Mark Worman of Graveyard Carz, fins on the drums = 11 inch drums, if they're smooth, they're 10 inch.

Mostly summit racing, but it depends on what I need.

Have you ever debated getting a brand new wiring harness from like Painless Wiring or Summit Racing? It is kinda pricey but that’s the car life right?😂

Is your charger a manual or automatic ?

Should be 10”x2” for all four drums. R/Ts had 11”x3” in front and 11”x2.5” in rear.

Honestly, rear drums on a car like this are perfectly fine, as long as you have a proper proportioning valve so you don't lock up the rears before locking up the fronts. Replace the fronts with discs, like you said. But putting discs on the rears of a car like this, where damn near 80% of your braking force is up front, is not really needed.

Extreme machines make a nice disc brake kit.👍

383 2bbl came with single exaust. Probably over the counter parts house mufflers and stamped replacement tailpipes.

Tip of the day !! Always loosen and tighten your Lugnuts in A star pattern !!! And I guarantee it’s not a ford hub whatever that means ! And have you checked the brake fluid ??

The wheels are for a Ford, so they're just small enough to get stuck when you tighten the wheels. There's no way the brakes would do any stopping the way they are even with fluid.

i wanna do this just go to a junkyard and find a nice gem and bring it back from the dead cool thing about those old cars is each one of them has a lot of stories from back in the day

As for the gauges, the 150mph speedo' is factory, and the small ones from left to right, (1st. is the fuel gauge, (2ct is the temperature, (3rd oil pressure, (4th is the voltage meter..

Considering the reputation that Dodges have for, well, Dodge-y metal work, this one really isn't bad at all. As someone else said below, I really do think that your car has the Tick Tock Tach, it's just in need of sorting out as the tach needle seems to be stuck at around the 5000 mark...

I'd definitely convert to disk brakes. That way it'll stop sometime close to when you want it to!

Omg that is awesome. If wanted one of those ever since I was about 5 years old. And I'm 41...thank you Dukes of Hazzard and the General Lee for that one.

As this is not your first rodeo of restoring a car,why would you not just get the build sheet and work off of that ? Then check the tag and see what has been changed or not. It could be dealer installed ac ,but, if it is original then fix it or just leave it installed the car is worth more. The transmission is fine so leave it alone ,short of a fluid change. The rear end is what you should look at if it is making noise that could be why it got parked. You need to fix the wiring first the last thing you want is a fire,I have seen too many project's close to being done and lost by that.

Back in the day before stainless steel exhausts, for a daily drive you needed to buy at least a muffler ever five years. The pipes up front were thicker gauge and lasted longer. Its almost impossible the exhaust is original. Its also ulikely a non RT car came with factory dual exhaust.

Actually, any non-R/T Charger and Coronet could be ordered with a 325-horsepower 383 4-barrel that had dual exhaust; "Lee 1" (the original "General Lee") is so equipped.

Don't worry about what everyone else says. Let them buy their own and do it their way. Keep on keeping on.

I think that between you n your dad and all your subs you will get the Charger figured out. I hope you find a super cheap manifold and the carbs for the old six-packs some of the cars came with. :) That would be cool..... :)

It would be cool if you found an old chiltons for 68 charger. if they have those for specific autos.

hellno50 actually when we sold the car, there was a chiltons and the original owners manual in it. Dylan McCool you might get them from the guy you bought it from.

That thing needs a 4-speed and some 4.10 final, then youll never notice the low compression ratio bottom end

Better check that rear end fluid and bearings for excessive wear...

Just curious are you going to go more full resto or ratty muscle car be awsome either way
