Abacha Was Not a Criminal, His Death Was Shocking, Says Right-hand Man General Jeremiah Useni

We step into the archives to take a look back at the five-year rule of #GeneralSaniAbacha, through the eyes of the second most senior officer in the Nigerian army at the time, Lt. #GeneralJeremiahUseni, said to be the most powerful man in the land after General Abacha himself. But then #GeneralAbacha died suddenly in 1998, and #JeremiahUseni fell dramatically from the opulence of power and influence. It was a bitter end for the man who waxed stronger and lasted longer than most Nigerian army officers - and who was often described as #Abacha's alter ego, his most intimate and trusted friend with whom he ruled Nigeria with an iron grip...So how has he evolved since the end of the heady days of the Abacha regime?

My due respect to the interviewer of Arise television, Mr Charles Aniogulo. During this interview his guest and the former rtd Lt.general in the army, the former minister for the federal capital territory, Jeremiah Oseni said that he was a northerner which i totally rejected. The first military coup of January 1966 carried out by the top igbo military officers was mainly targeted against the northern army officers but rtd, Ltd.general Jeremiah Oseni was not a northerner. He is from the langtan tribe like the former military head of state General Yakubu Gowon. He should not claimed that he was from the north. The Benue state and Jos Plaeteu state are parts of the Middle belt in Nigeria. Again, during this interviewed by Mr Charles Aniogolu that he was not chosen to be the next military head of state after the demised of the former late military head of state General Sani Abacha because he was not a Muslim from the northerner religion. Very unfortunate, the former minister of the federal capital territory, Rtr.general Jeremiah Oseni made mentioned that he was a northerner at the beginning of this interviewed. But he has lost his mind with senses to have told Mr Charles Aniogolu the reason why he was not a military officer successor to the late head of state General Sani Abacha was that he was not a northerner. Perhaps, he should go for more medical tests and check up.

That was the man, a common military driver on Major-General JTU Aguiyi-Ironsi's contingent, who drove the Landrover that was used to torture and drag the Supreme Commander's body on the road -- despite the fact that Ironsi was responsible for truncating and quashing the Nzeogwu/Ifeajuna coup. Alleged Christian Jeremiah Useni confessed that they didn't touch Ironsi during the Northern portion of his nationwide tour because, in his words, "we didn't want the bullets grazing any of the emirs". He rose in the militics, by sticks and carrots, on account of his pivotal role in the murder of his boss. It's unfortunate that Useni is daft, even Abacha was brighter. Arise News, pls I am not sure that Useni was senior to Diya. Both Diya and Useni were governors and Brigadiers under General Buhari, although Diya was in detention. Useni is a remorseless vilain for alleging that the 1966 coup was purely Igbo coup and that Ojukwu approved of it. The world knows that General Ironsi and Col Ojukwu foiled d coup. Useni as Lieutenant at the time could have taken part in d January coup bec the officers and troops used by Nzeogwu to execute the coup in Kaduna were northerners. Other officers who were non Igbos also participated in executing d coup elsewhere in Lagos. Useni is unintelligent, and it shows. Thank God his people are seeing what the Igbos saw years ago.

The truth is that none of the two parties did us good. Until we admit that both failed us and stop taking sides, we will continue to suffer. You don't want ur people to take the blame, but u want those whose family members n leaders were killed during d coup to swallow everything. Double standard be that na. All d coups; the one that ended the lives of the northern leaders, the one that ended the live of Ironsi n subsequent ones did us bad, so take a chill pill bro.

@@Samuelubochi1556Igbos at that time made up more than 70% of the military officers in the contraption called "Nigeria", so a PURELY MILITARY coup has been misnamed "Igbo coup". This was despite the fact that the central plan was to spring from the Calabar prison Obafoodless AWOLowo (away without official leave, starvation is a legitimate weapon of war) to organise a new government. While that didn't specifically say that he would become the [new] Prime Minister, that would have afforded him the opportunity to achieve his lifetime ambition, namely, to become the "Numero Uno". Would it be fair to call a coup, for instance, by the Association of Lagos Market Women a "Yoruba coup" simply because 90% of that ethnic stock made up the gathering? Food for thought! 'nuff said.
