AAWireless setup and install

The unboxing, setup and install of the AAWireless dongle onto a Ford F150. You'll see the pain in the butt issues I had trying to get this to work. The lack of a provided basic instruction manual was, in my opinion, a big part of the problem. It was one of the most troublesome installs I've ever had with a new device. Once setup, it did work though.

Update: It worked off and on. It would lose connection randomly where when I turned my truck it, it would not longer connect. I had to go through the whole connection sequence to get it to work again. I ended up throwing the device away and switching to a different one, which has worked flawlessly for me.

Nope, you're not the only one. This device was probably the worst setup experience I've ever had for any electronic device I've ever tested. Glad to hear the video help you out. :)

The system update didn't work because you disabled the WIFI on your phone which prevented the adaptor from communication with the app. This device requires WIFI to be on at all times for it to function.

once it was finally setup, i still had random issues with this device and ended up throwing it away after only a couple months. I switched to a different device which has worked flawlessly for over a year now.

For the cost of the unit, no instruction manual and from what i have seen on other videos, a right pain in the butt to set up as well. Question, when it shows what vehicle you have, what if you have an older car like me a 2003 Subaru Outback with an aftermarket headunit, a Sony AX-AV5500. What do you do there? Am also thinking 0f the Ottocast dongles, seem to be less of a headache to install. Currently using a Carlinkit 4.0 which is starting to get tempremental at times

I was reading the comments and saw you switched to Aoocci. I was looking into that one but can't tell if it turns off when the car turns off like the AAwireless does. My car always has power going to the USB port and that is the reason I was thinking about getting an AAwireless. Could you tell me if the Aoocci also has an option to turn off when the car turns off like the AAwireless one?

I didn't notice any setting like that. However, my vehicle also has the usb port always being powered and I've noticed that the unit is actually off when I get into my truck. So I'm guessing it does shut off after a while of being disconnected and comes back on when the vehicle powers back up again.

This AA wireless works flawless. The only downfall on this is they don't come with instruction on what the other icons do on the app, and I font feel like doing Google research lol

Beware, when the AAWireless adapter bricks because it processed one of their updates, they are not helpful. I was basically told I am on my own.

I ended up with this one: aoocci.com/products/wireless-box-plus, which I really like. This one is a bit older now, and they have newer models out. If I could justify it, I would replace this with one of the newer ones. But it works just fine and I have no problems with it, so I can't justify replacing it just yet. Just a heads up, they are currently on Christmas sale for a couple more days if you're interested in it. I'm highly debating one of their dash cams or the portable model for my older car that doesn't support Android auto, it only uses carplay. The portable model will allow me to use that instead of my car's infoscreen.

Thank you. 1. What are the USB connections on the cable and what do they need to plug into? I see ref to "connect to your type C on your vehicle." My 2017 Honda CRV has a Type A connection. Does this dongle use the C end? Do they supply a CtoC? So I'd have to provide my own AtoC cable anyway, I just can't find any info on this. 2. My car already connects via bluetooth to my phone but will not run Android Auto thru it. So how does this Bluetooth work when my built-in Bluetooth will not run Android Auto by default? 3. Any idea where I can pursue these questions before I invest in this? 4 Do they have a web address so I can bother them instead of you? Haha

Actually, I was having issues with it and eventually threw it away and switched it out for a different brand, which I'm still using today. AA does have a website, though: www.aawireless.io/

Mostly connection issues where I had to reset it and do the process all over again. I switched to the Smart-Box wireless carplay & android auto adapter. It looks like they were bought out by another company though (Aoocci). Here's their new webaddress: aoocci.com/products/wireless-box-plus I've liked my new one a lot and never had issues with it. It also runs android on the unit and it can connect to both android auto and carplay auto's. Plus it can replace your car's screen with android apps or mirror your phone or play videos from your phone onto the car screen. it's a pretty good adapter. I had made a video of it a long time ago when I first got it (Kickstarter backer), but I couldn't remember where I saved it to, so I wasn't able to post the video on KZread. If I remember to search through all my video's, I'll try to find it and post my review of it.

@@R-TechEnthusiast No issues with apps not working with Android 14? Fermata Auto and other apps that don't require boxes have been not working with the recent A14 update lol.

I don't use fermata media player, I can install it and give it a try. What other apps are people having problems with and if I have the app, I'll see if I can give it a try with my S23 Ultra. I doubt it will have issues though since it's going through the adapter and the adapter is doing all the heavy lifting. The adapter is replacing the os in the car with it's own screen. It's evident because when you boot up, a custom boot screen on the car screen is displayed that comes from the adapter, and you are able to replace the boot screen in the adapter with your own if you want.
