What threw me was that she was just out in that lil blue dental floss bikini, and the outfit she had on in the scene before that was a bra, a mesh tank top and leather pants. Be fucking serious lol. This is NOT a woman in the throes of body shame. At least if they had established it as an element of that character's psyche before that random moment it would have just been that Solene is a crazy person who is unaware her body is slamming and not "this character suddenly develops a case of insecurity for this one scene that should have manifested eighty times by now but never had."

It would have made more sense if she put on the same bikini that she was fine with wearing before in the montage (the blue one), then looked out and saw those girls and compared herself, then felt uncomfortable and put the cover up on. Most unlikeable characters I’ve ever encountered (apart from her unfortunate daughter) Thankfully the rating is dropping on Goodreads as more and more people read it 😂

when he said "if the roles were reversed no one would care" had me yelling because absolutely people would be up in arms if a 40 year old man was dating a 24 year old woman (cough leonardo dicaprio). the trope is that when young men/boys get an older woman it's not seen as predatory it's seen as an accomplishment for the man
