+Auto Archer Aaron of all people would have a great speech because he writes movies where people pretty much gives speeches every time they open their mouths! He is the best at dialog and long monologues! He must really have great conversations in his head.

Exactly.

On paper this film should be a snooze fest. Tech geeks and entrepreneurs suing each other for alleged intellectual property violation. But only Sorkin and Fincher could make it one of the best films of the decade. Absolutely phenomenal, just got round to watching it and can't believe it took me so long. Phenomenal dialogue, great acting, and the score is sublime.

Every line of dialogue is a masterpiece. With that being said, it obviously benefited from a director who visualized it in a way I have never seen before. So why the fuck did Fincher not win the Oscar for this movie

Javier Bardem has just inspired me to write an original screenplay, titled "The Shawshank Network." It will tell the fictional tale of Mark Zuckerberg and his dealings as a convict within a maximum security prison.

See 'Citizen Kane'. It's not about what movie will 'last for a long time', it was about which movie was the best at the time. That's why "How Green was my Valley" was a better movie back then according to the academy.

I got the joke there! What a good writer with a neat disposition to include some disruption in his writing.

This is unarguably the best "well deserved" oscar win. Aaron is awesome. Should've given fincher the best director too.

Honestly, if Sorkin didn't win, I probably would've put a hole in my TV.

Now go see the film Moneyball. Another great script from Sorkin. I hate baseball and could not give a damn about math, but I will watch it every time it's on.

I liked that Fincher referred to "the invisible Josh" in his Golden Globes acceptance speech. Wish he could have repeated it at this Oscar ceremony.

Aaron Sorkin is one of those few people who you can tell, just by the way he talks, that he's a phenomenal screenwriter Most deserved Oscar win that year.

Class. Love how they put the music on to play him off but he kept calm and continued his speech.

He’s always humble (or maybe insecure) but the man is nothing short of a genius

The Social Network has great screenplay.

I've seen how Aaron Sorkin approaches his craft and the craft of writing in general--his acceptance speech sounds like a true writer writing words which flow from his brilliant, masterful mind creating a beautiful picture using words alone, where visual craft show the story but words create it.

great move and screenplay. and glad he gave a tribute to Chayeksky's Network, which was an ingenious screenplay and film.

fajita did you see Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? It was the show Sorkin followed up West Wing with and the pilot is basically a homage to him and Network.

He deserves another Oscar for what he did with Steve Jobs.

Revolutionary. Absolutely emblematic of its time and place.

The Social Network does an excellent job depicting the shadow side of creativity, the loneliness of those scouting the new territory ahead, and the ways in which anger fuels ambition and the quest for control in our times. Technology now plays a major role in minute-by-minute unfolding of our days. This movie raises a lot of questions about it while acknowledging that bane or gift, social media is here to stay.

When a movie wins Best Screenplay but loses Best Picture it just makes no since!! I still get angry when I think that it lost to The Kings Speech, or that it lost at all!! Clearly the Academy doesn't like Fincher just like they didn't like Scorsese for many years. But I sadly feel that Finchers best days are behind him since he can never get the funding he needs to make films he truly wants to make!

+Freddie Grace but there are two Screenplay winners every year and only one picture winner, so every year there's a screenplay winner who doesn't win Picture. King's Speech also won Screenplay this year.

Yes I guess that is true this year, but not some. I guess it is more strange when Screenplay loses and movie wins as well. But I truly believe Social Network was a much better script than the Kings Speech by far. It was brilliant actually. I felt anyone could have written Kings Speech but only Aaron could have written a script for Social Network that great. It was special.

I think Aaron's one of the most gifted writers ever, but I disagree on the King's Speech, i found its screenplay to be delightfully witty and upbeat. It was a terrific year for screenplays

I think what it came down to were the directors. as much as I LOVE Fincher (and I think Social network is his best film) the imagery and directorial detail by Top Hooper' King speech was MASTERFULY crafted...when some academy voters were asked later about why the Kings speech won, they said "it came down to Direction and heart"....Both films are equally brilliant in my opinion, but I can see why they went with the kings speech

I might be watching for 100th time and everytime his speech gives me chills

Chris Wolff Oh absolutely. Its crazy. He is extremely passionate and always engaged when it comes to writing dialogue for his characters.

Totally deserved, amazing screenplay.

I highly recommend reading the screenplay itself, it is extremely well written and paced.

Impeccably scripted, beautifully directed and filled with fine performances, the Social Network is a riveting, ambitious example of modern filmmaking at its finest.

Now I know, why every character in the social network is so fast-talking

The Social Network is such a good film, every bit of dialogue is a mentionable quote in itself.

You obviously haven't seen The Social Network. Sorkin's screenplay was miles ahead of anybody else's that year, adapted or original.

Aaron Sorkin is a brilliant writer, his work in The Social Network is incredible, I have never heard such good dialogues. This movie is a complete masterpiece.

This wasn’t really an adapted screenplay. Sorkin wrote the screenplay with his own research while the book was being written. Kinda like 2001 a space odyssey

@marneebox It's because it's a sequel apparently and under Academy rules that automatically makes it an adapted screenplay. Another weird example is the screenplay for Letters from Iwo Jima is apparently original despite being based on a book!!

The fact that this guy was able to make such an amazing and engaging screenplay based off one of the most boring premises ever shows how talented a writer Sorkin is.

@marneebox IMDB does state that apparently Letters from Iwo Jima is in fact based on TWO books. Non Fiction works admittedly, but the films screenplay is still 'based on material previously produced or published', the definition of an adapted screenplay. The only thing that would make it original, is if the books were unpublished at the time the script was written

All four of those nominees knew they had no chance that year. It is going to be a long time before we get a script that was as beautiful as that one.

What the hell, you just cut the greatest entrance by presenters of all time.

Dunno why but its ironic how these two star in Dune which could well win the same award next year.

The music used to shoo Mr. Sorkin out of the stage ironically made his speech more emotional towards the end.

He is also a huge pioneer

An astonishing morality tale about the shadow side of creativity, the loneliness of pioneers and the ways in which anger can fuel ambition.

I think in place of Winter's Bone, the movie that should be in place is The Karate Kid based on The Karate Kid 1984 movie

Well this is a more refine way of rushing through the speeches than the "f"ing Ride of the Valkyries.

The Social Network was totes my favorite film this year. It didn't win as many Oscars as I had hoped, but it at least won this.

@reptongeek letters from iwo jima wasnt a book....the screenplay was based off of true events but eveyrthing in the movie was written originally. whereas adapated screeenplays are either sequels, adapted from books or plays or television series
