Made in the USA aaaaaaand at a great price. Best of both worlds
Given 2022 prices, that ammo is very well-performing and *extremely* well-priced. Best value-deal since Remington's 50- and 100-round boxes of 9mm JHP, and that's been a minute. Thanks for presenting this!
Just ordered three 100 rd boxes for $46 each. 300 rds is enough rounds to last me a lifetime in terms of self defense with at least 285 rds to spare
I just shot some of the FMJ range ammo from this company today and I was impressed with it. It is very clean burning ammo, did not take long to clean the gun afterward. I did not use a chrongraph, but the feel is correct for the advertised velocity on it. 124 grain FMJ 1150 fps is what I shot. Some of the cleanest burning ammo I have shot in a long time. It is on sale right now, get some while you can.
The XTP is probably the best old cheap bullet because it actually penetrates to a reasonable depth. You can even buy and reload them yourself for practice or pistol hunting (critter dependant, 10mm can give some nice results)

That is true but one thing to keep in mind is that the xtp bullet has a very ridgid jacket and in some cartridges it may not expand if it is fired from a short barrel and the manufacturer doesn't load it hot enough. Lucky gunner did an extensive ammo test on self defense ammo and a lot of the xtp bullets failed to expand because they weren't loaded hot enough and were in short barrels. Great bullet in general for magnums though.

@@psubond that is true but a lot of people carry 3 inch 9mm and some ammo manufacturers don't load their xtps hot enough to get that velocity from something like a sig p365. I use xtps in a lot of cartridges that I load but I always pay attention to the minimum velocity Hornady cites for the particular bullet. For example if you look at 125 grain 38 special loads you will never get that velocity out of a standard length barrel so for some uses xtps are actually meant for magnum cartridges.

Another informative video. Also the power that be unsubscribed me i dont know how long ago but i was lucky enough to catch this in feed today
I’ve been loading my own so long I can’t remember the last time I’ve bought a box of ammo other than 22lr and 12ga but I haven’t bout 9mm, 223/556 in years. Now that my small pistol and small rifle primer stash is dwindling down and current prices on primers I’ll probably be back to buying factory ammo before long. Definitely gonna keep this brand in mind. I’ve seen a couple GunTubers using this and of course I always wonder if they are just saying good things cause it’s free or not but I’ll give it a go. I’ve always felt like this channel has been one of the few that doesn’t simp for brands just cause it’s free and even some times when it’s not free. Thanks for the video and everything you do to help us common folk out. Now if I could get my permission slips from the regime for my cans I would be so happy. I wanna shoot suppressed lol

Well done as always. Thank you Sir.
Very good company. Very good ammo. I've been shooting their ammo since 2022 of Dec and now have shot a total of their .308 380acp, 45acp, 9mm and now 10mm. Roughly around 5,000 rounds total. Not " 1 " problem. I love the fact that PSA even makes their own primers in house
Great timing of this video, I've been using their 115gr ball ammo for the range and was wondering about these hollow points. I might puck up a couple hundred to try out.

Will be looking into these
Thanks, that is a very good option.
Simply put, the XTP works at the designed parameters. I have used them in all my handguns from .32 Magnum up to 480 Ruger. My favorite handgun bullets.
XTP has been around a long time, it's still a viable option. More ammo manufacturers is "Nothing to be mad about, at all."😉
Good info. The XTP was designed for the FBI after the Miami Disaster. It is supposed to expand to 1.5x diameter and penetrate deeply. It does that at the velocities you got. I saw a video where the 9mm XTP was shot into the gel at 100 yards from a carbine. It worked perfectly.

@@almostontimehero5415 that's like saying "the grass is green" when everybody obviously knows it is. Thank you for the data.
Newer guy here. I have bought critical defense, punch, Sierra, and some others. I like to have options. I am grateful for this video showing me that in a standard carry Glock, these are not trash. Currently they are priced .45-50 each. So they are affordable. As I was looking at these on the psa site they listed the xtp lead like they produced the round itself. I would have been more inclined to purchase this if they had listed the hornady round in their packed shell. Maybe I misread it or was ignorant to the obvious.
Hornady Critical Defense is my chosen self defense load.

Please choose ANYTHING other than that round. Even critical duty would be 10x better. That “critical defense” line underperforms in almost every caliber. Terrible penetration, terrible velocities, ive seen them not even open up before in gel.
👍🏻I’m using 124 gr XTPs loaded by precision one.
I think this will work well in compact or larger as maybe a inexpensive hunting load, and maybe a summer time carry for self defense. Or you just live in a hot location. Wire you don't have to worry about thick clothing.
Taofledermaus mentioned using a torch to heat the gel and get rid of those wrinkles so th channels are easier to see
I picked up some 115gr 9mm FMJ not the JHP from PSA. Out of 500 rounds had a few hard primers that needed a 2nd strike. Still miles above Winchester white box. I’d shoot Russian steel junk over WwB lol. Nice video brother

on the subject of 9mm after 46 years of reloading many, many calibers i like test a caliber with different size bullets for best accuracy and function. in my cz 52in 9mm ive reloaded 357 dia.xtp in 110 gr, 125 grand Remington 110gr sjhp bullets. they shoot accurately, flawless operation ,awesome expansion. i also shoot these bullets in one of my Taurus g2c pistols that is accurate and flawless in operation. not all 9mm pistols will do this. plus they expand better in my 9mm than a 38 special revolvers I've tried them in. papa wishing you well 😊
XTP is an oldie but a goodie. One thing that remains consistent with that round is that it is very durable and requires good velocity to expand reliably. You can watch dozens of videos showing it working as advertized. I would just caution any buyer that you want at least a 4in barrel. It seems like regardless of caliber, under 4in is iffy at best.

I loaded them myself using Alliant Power Pistol in both calibers. I have some in .45 ACP I am going to try in Colt Defender and Kimber Ultra Carry II 1911s in the near future. I expect them to be extremely accurate out of those as well. Hornady holds very tight tolerances both in dimensions and weight. Doesn't really matter how they expand in ballistic gel when some tactitard mallninja shoots them. If they blow straight through your heart or eye socket. Accuracy is king when it comes to precision bullets.

I tried the xtp's years ago out of my Colt Python with a 6" barrel. I loaded 125 gr. and 158 gr. bullets and could not get them to open up like yours did. I tried various loads also with same results. Might as well been shooting ball ammo.
Not bad, but I'll stick to my fortScott's munitions TUIs.
Well hell yeah
....It'll do. I've bought a couple thousand AAC rounds. I've not had any real issues with them. They are great when they hit a sale, but even when not on sale, $0.26 / rd. for FMJ, and $0.50 / rd. for HP's isn't a horrible price considering they run just fine. You could spend a bit more and still do worse. So as I said, it'll do...

While testing, did you run into hard primers? I bought a bunch of this ammo and had a lot of hard primers using several different pistols. Sorry, I was firing AAC 124 gr ball ammo.
While not a factor if your attacker is naked, unfortunately most bad guys are wearing clothes. So these (like any other) "hollow" hollow point can suffer from clogging when shot through clothes. This clogging delays or even prevents expansion. That's why the HPs that are filled with a polymer (Critical Defense) are what's needed for serious social work. Winchester recently joined that class with their USA Ready line.
@Lucas12v

There are many proven hp's that perform well against clothing without any type of plug. Not saying that the plug/tip is a bad idea, just that it's not the only viable option.
Can you test this brand ammo in 55 grain vmax?
I keep reading that XTP is also a good round to hunt with. But I'm seeing penetration tests that are pretty close to the HST bullet. I can't seem to really tell a difference in tests.
Definitely needs to be mo spicy. In my opinion there is no reason not to load 9mm to 390+ ftlbs. Preferably between 400-420 ftlbs. However, it looks like those rounds will get the job done, and it's cheaper than the winchester white box JHPs.
